The Plot Thickens (Karen)
Fifteen hours after the Chicago PD responded to an incident at a warehouse on the pier, Detective Lynch is contacted by Seargeant Griswold, who ended up working overtime and was the first to respond when the call came in.

When she arrives, the police have shut down one of the main roads headed out of town and the reason is quickly apparent; off the side of the road, there is a burned out husk of a vehicle, a black 1967 Chevy Impala. There are scorch and burn marks on the vehicle where it hasn't been smashed or crushed beyond repair. On the ground, two bodies lie underneath sheets, and the Crime Scene Investigators are taking photos of the trunk, where there is a third body.

Sergeant Griswold approaches Lynch when she arrives.

"I'm startin' to think it might be time for me to hang it up, Detective." he says wearily, nodding to the crime scene.

Karen had arrived on her police motorcycle.

"You know you wouldn't be able to stay away for long," Karen says.

She gives the site a quick look over and does not like what she sees. "So what do we know so far?"

"Got a call about two hours ago reporting a vehicle broken down on the side of the road. First responders found two men in the front seat of the vehicle, burned nearly beyond recognition. However...they're both wearing Hell's Angels Prospect cuts. We've got ID's." Griswold says, passing her a pair of printed mug shots.

"Donnie Barber and Chris Gaines, both small-time felons and recent recruits of the United States' most dominant one-percenter motorcycle club." he says.

"The car itself looks like it drove through hell. There are some chain marks on the vehicle, could be stolen. We're running the plates through the database right now to find out, but...we've got another complication, just like last night's case.

There was a body in the trunk, female, early-to-mid 20's. There was an ID on her, too. Sarah Prescott, also in town to promote her new movie, co-starring Austin Caine.

She also happens to be Caine's ex-girlfriend. We confirmed that he was staying at a loft in town, and she's been over there a few times in the last week." Griswold says.

"Meanwhile, no word on Caine's."

"Bikers. OK so we've got a start there than. We need to see what else we can find out about them later."

"Shit," Karen says, "This is to be kept quiet as long as we can it going to be tough but we need to try."

"Caine is not looking good right now but in what way I don't know yet."

"Detective, this guy is connected to /two/ different crime scenes in less than twenty-four hours. There's no sign of him in either one.

How much long do you think we can keep a lid on this?" Griswold asks her.

"Did your, uh...friend come up with anything?" Griswold asks, seeming uneasy at bringing up the topic of Matt Walker.

"I don't think we can keep a lid on it for too long but the longer we can keep this close to our chest and from becoming a media circus the better," Karen says, "If we can't keep a lid on it then we can try to control how the information gets out as best as we can."

"Some dark stuff," I haven't heard if he's found anything new yet other than what I told you he told me at the crime scene."

"Look, no offense to you, or your friend...but have you ever noticed that things tend to get /weirder/ whenever he gets involved?" Griswold asks.

"The guy can do things that normal people /can't/, and it's an every day thing for him, it seems like. He shows up at crime scenes before we tell anyone about them and he always seems to know more than he says he does." the Sergeant says.

"I just wonder what else in this city is out there that we're gonna run into on account of whatever crazy is taking over Chicago."

"No offense but they were weird before he gets involved you just don't notice it till he gets there."

"Clearly you've never lived in New York."

"I sincerely hope we don't find out."

"I'm with you on that. I've had enough freaky for one lifetime with everyone I've seen over the last twenty-five years on the force. I don't need need /actual/ freaky stuff comin' out of the woodwork." Griswold says.

"You can't always get what you," Karen says, "But we can at least make it so other people don't have to deal with this stuff."

"You're right about that, Detective. I'll have my people get things squared away here." Griswold says, going to rejoin the efforts to get things wrapped up here.

"Detective Karen Lynch." says a voice from behind her.

"You're friend with Matthew Walker, aren't you?" The very tall, very blond man asks as he looks down at her.

"If by friend you mean royal pain in my ass then yes," Karen says as she tries to get a cops read on the guy talking to her now.

"I hear he serves that purpose to a lot of people." Aeron says wryly, looking the short woman over. She was assessing him even now, trying to determine if he was a friend, foe or something else.

She'd see that he didn't look outwardly threatening, but that he was eying the crime scene with interest. His nose crinkles in disgust and he looks to her.

"Do you smell that? Sulfur and brimstone. Remnants of hellfire." Aeron says, looking over toward the car.

"By the way, you should fire Matt Walker from this case. He's only going to make things more difficult, not less."

Karen wouldn't figure out what to think of him and made a note of that.

Karen took a quick sniff of the air and could make out the faint scent of rotten eggs. "OK so what does that mean then?"

"And why should I fire him he's always been good for these type of cases in the past and I don't see a conflict of interest or personal issues." Karen didn't like just being told what to do like this.

"I'm sure you're aware of what kind of beings use hellfire, Detective Lynch." Aeron says. "You have some knowledge of the supernatural, don't you? Your family has had a brush with it before, maybe?"

Aeron takes a deep breath and looks at Karen again.

"What you're seeing now is only the the beginning of what's coming, Detective. Imagine scenes like this playing out all over town in greater frequency in the months ahead. You and your friends may have a chance of stopping this...but Matt Walker will make this much harder.

There's a very real chance he's going to die and take you all with him." Aeron says. "Unless you can get him to back off and leave Chicago."

Karen’s eyes narrowed. That kind of information wasn’t really written down anywhere so someone knows it made her very suspicious and on edge especially since she couldn’t really read the guy.

“Or you could stop being such a cryptic son of a bitch and just tell me exactly what’s going on and who you are,” Karen says. She really doesn’t like to play these type of games and generally doesn’t. She keeping Matt involved in this until she knew what the hell was going on.

“And if you’re just going to continue being unhelpful then get out of my crime scene before I arrest you.”

"Jail cells and I don't get along so well. You and Dr. Drum are the only two capable of keeping him under control, yet you seem the least interested in doing so." Aeron observes, a melancholy expression coming over his face.

"Detective, the being that did this is extremely dangerous, but not nearly as dangerous as what it was trying to stop last night. Some creatures can be dealt with in the normal way, but others...others are like forces of nature. You can't stop them or hope to contain them; you simply need to get out of the way.

"I suggest that you and the rest of your friends, as you'd call yourselves, get out of the way of this one until it moves on and focus on finding what it came to stop." Aeron says, turning to leave.

More cryptic nonsense. For someone who seemed like they were trying to help he was doing a rather piss poor job of it. All Karen had wanted was an honest explanation and depending on what it was she probably would have been willing to help.

"I don't want to see you again especially around a crime scene unless you are willing to talk," Karen tells him as he leaves, "If I do I will arrest you for obstruction of justice."

She then turns to get back to work it's going to be a long couple of days most likely without sleep.
