Cold Air (open)
Kalypso took a deep breath in and slowly let it out. Cold air was always good for clearing the head and the polluted air from lungs. Kalypso hovered far above New York, high enough that the city was just a speck of light in the dark. Mom had said the cold thing was a racial trait of theirs. Apparently Eternals liked high cold places and Kalypso appeared to be no exception.

She took another deep breath and closed her eyes. Everything was so peaceful up here. The troubles and cares withered away in the cold.

The summer had been a busy one. Mom's business was really taking off and Kal had been pressed into slave labor for much of the summer. Not that she minded much. She'd do anything for her mother. It had always been the two of them versus everyone else. Though now it was Mom, Kal and Jack against everyone else.

She smiled at the thought of Jack. The man had become such a huge part of Kal's life and she loved him beyond words. It was even worth the few bouts of interference from her mother. Mom hadn't even tried to move Kal back in with Jack again. Which Kal was very thankful for.

Kalypso looked up at dark sky above and at the stars. She smiled and started going up.

"Yes, he does. So does my mother. I'm more of the type to like the quiet."

They broke the outer edges of the atmosphere and Kal looked down. "My God," she said. "It so beautiful from up here."

He glances downward and nods. "I've always thought so. We can go a lot further out some time if you like. The view doesn't get any less interesting."
He pauses, considering, before responding several seconds later. "I haven't quite decided which type I am yet."

"A person can forget all of the bad stuff there is in the world from up here."

Kal chuckled. "You must like the action if you're an Avenger. They always seem to have something happening."

"Not always. Its funny, when there's reason to feign sleeping, the days seem a lot shorter. The rest of the time, there's plenty of time in between. I'm picking up a lot about metal working, Earth computer science and cooking in the down time. The action has its upsides, but I'll skip any more unstoppable giants."

"You've been keeping busy, cousin. How many hobbies have you collected now? And I can see the part about unstoppable giants."

"I like keeping busy. I get bored easily. And it depends, what constitutes practical research and what makes up a hobby?"

"Okay, what do you qualify as research and what qualifies as a hobby?"

He shrugs. "Political and military science is research, pure utility, I suppose. Linguistics falls somewhere in between. Surfing, dancing and cooking are probably hobbies. I don't think I enjoy welding enough to bother doing it anymore once hydrobase is fully updated, but it might come in handy."

"Fair enough," she said. "You seem to be settling in on Earth just fine. Your father will be happy."

"I like it here. I'm not sure how long I'm going to stay, but its working out for now. Dad always was fond of humans. Speaking of parents, how are you and your mom doing?"

"We're fine," she admitted. "Mom isn't butting in on my love life that much, so we're good. There's been no more surprised visits by Sersi's moving company."

"You must have either convinced her you know what you're doing, or she's waiting for something. I get the impression she's really enjoying being a mother... its a change in routine."

"Most likely the latter, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt." Kal was quiet for a moment. "I think she is, but I think she enjoys me being older and able to survive on my own now. I'm not always under foot."

"I would imagine so. Just enough to provide her the occasional change in routine while not being a constant commitment maybe. She always did like being able to fly off at a moment's notice."

"Yes, she does. She's been traveling around the world in between jobs. I don't ask, she doesn't say a word about them. I don't think I want to know."

She looked around. Space was...amazing. She'd love to visit the moon, but the Inhumans were a prickly bunch.

He notices where she's looking, and arches a brow. "Come on, hold on and let's go. There's two sides to it, after all. Or we can hit Mars if you'd prefer. Quieter than the moon."

"It's okay. I don't want to get the Inhuman's panties into a twist. Some other time maybe." She smiled. "I'd like to stay here and look at my home."

"Sure. You made it this far, not too hard to make it out again, and the offer is always open. Mars isn't that long a trip, few hours, if you're too worried about the inhumans."

"That depends, flying comfortable and casual, a couple days. If you can hang on tight and take a little wear and tear for a warp gate, maybe two hours once we're out of any kind of planetary gravity. You'd want to wear something more durable for that. I can get you something through the Avengers, or your mom probably has something for rough travel."

Kal shook her head. "I was just curious." Not that she'd admit to wanting to go to meet her dad. "I don't want to go."

He glances back at her evenly. "I'm not much of a telepath, but if you didn't want to go, you wouldn't have asked. Its not a long trip, once you're prepared for it... you made it into space, what's one more step?"

"You're going to surprise him either way. He'll cope. You're right though, no hurry. Just make sure its not like space. There's no rush, but there's also no reason to keep chickening out." he answers in a lighter tone, his own words used against him.

"I know, but I'd rather not just drop in all of a sudden and say 'Hi Dad'." She shrugged. "Ideally I'd like to have Mom talk to him first and have her tell him about me. But knowing my mother that will never happen."
