Cookout
There had been an invitation for Excalibur to attend a cookout with the Defenders for Independence Day. Quinn was a Brit by birth, but he had spent half of his life in New York. He considered himself a Yankee as well as a Brit.

When it was time he teleported all from Excalibur who wanted to go to the Defenders compound. Quinn was looking forward to a day in the sun, on the beach and watching girls in bikinis with a lot of good food on hand. Not to mention Asgardian mead. It would truly be a wonderful day.

They arrived in a flash right outside the gates to the compound. It was rude to arrive inside the gates and Quinn didn't feel like fighting. He was a lover, not a fighter.

"Let me parse that sentence for a moment. Svalin was attacked because you weren't there. Okay, hotshot, let's sort this out. Let's ignore the fact that Svalin and the baby were fine, because she was with Hal. Do you really think the vampires would have said 'oh gosh, we'd better not attack, because Sigurdur is there' and not attacked? Oh wait, we know they don't think that way, because they attacked us. But if you seriously think you brought danger on Svalin by enjoying my company for a minute, fine. I say that making sure you don't have fun isn't going to keep Svalin and the baby any safer, but that's just one mortal's opinion."

Sigurdur may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but even he can tell when a conversation is not going well. He has heard his father misspeak to his mother and pay the price for it.

He takes a deep breath.

"I didst not meant to infer that thy company is not welcome or fulfilling, Vernique. I only mean to say that I intend to fulfill my task and bring honor to my family. I wast lucky to be chosen for this task, considering that mine brother ist a traitor to Asgard.

I cannot fail and disgrace mine father further." he says quietly.

The apology and the pain she can detect in that last part takes some of the wind out of the building Tiny Human Rage.

She steps over and puts a hand on his arm. "Sigurdur, your brother being a traitor's got nothing to do with anything. Svalin's grandfather knew you could do the job, that having you around would be good for Svalin, and I'll bet anything your parents are really proud of you." She says it all calmly, tenderly, but then takes a breath to say a little more firmly. "But really, when Svalin Thorsdottir starts worrying about one's gloomygutsness, one really has to reconsider how one's going about one's day. Especially since Svalin's got enough to worry about."

Sigurdur hadn't thought about it that way. If Svalin was worried about /him/, she wasn't worrying about herself, and Sigurdur's purpose was to keep her from worrying about anyone but her child.

He covers his face in shame.

"I hath, how do the human call it...screwed up royally? I art not a king or prince, but it dost still apply, does it not?" he asks.

He can't remember which show on the box used the expression, but he thinks it fits.

"How can I make amends with Svalin, Vernique? I art afraid she dost not wish the sight of me anymore, at least not today." Sigurdur says.

	Sigurdur takes his duties very seriously and while he dislikes the idea of merrymaking when he should be guarding Svalin...he tries to remind himself that he is still doing his duty by following Vernique's advice. "Mayhap thou wouldst accompany me back to the party and share a meal with me? I art hungry now and I would like to watch the water a bit more." he says. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
