Returning home (Meme- Fluff, Meeting Again)
It was supposed to just be a week long trip to a dig site. It was going to help her finish off her degree so she could focus on her other duties full time. And really everything should have gone smoothly! It had. Mostly.

Except she got talked into staying for another week when they stumbled across a big find that was more of Kayura's area of specialty. It was really hard to say no because it was a fantastic example of mid-thirteenth century armor and it had been exciting.

Then she had wrenched her knee badly the day before she had to leave. She had to delay going back because of that. The site medic didn't want her to risk tearing something since they had to hike to and from the dig site. So now it was almost three weeks later and now she is finally back and so happy to just have to wait for the date to graduate more or less.

But boy was this a little embarrassing. Almost two weeks late coming home even though she had sent word explaining everything.

"But it works. My parents were both very happy and they..... chose each other." She quirks a amused smile.

"Of course that brings the problem of trying to date. It's.... not enjoyable for me. I think I'd rather be working."

"I am certain it works in some cases, but it seems very complicated." He pauses, quirking a brow. "Date? What is that?"

"It works if the couple is willing to work at it." He hadn't had that explained to him? She hopes she can explain it.

"It's basically a part of courtship now. People go on dates to see if they like each other romantically and have things in common. Or later on to continue to bond while they decide if they want to continue things."

She's making that clear, right?

"Ahhh yes, I see. That would take a great deal of getting used to. We knew of romance, of course... but it rarely had a great deal to do with marriage - though in many cases, the person staying home would see to it that appropriately disceet affairs were arranged for their spouse. In the system you have now, I can see the use for it."

"I think that sometimes still happens. But I think that is mostly human nature." She also thinks it's not her business either.

"It's still somewhat troublesome to try dating as I don't have time. I will have to one day make time but for now I'd rather focus on finishing my studies."

"You may also always meet someone through work or your studies, I suppose. It still seems awkward and troublesome."

"Hopefuly my Uncle doesn't try to arrange another 'blind date' for me." She had huffed a bit over that then paused. She hadn't meant to mention that. Oh well. Nothing to be done.

"So, if a date is getting to know someone you might possibly be interested in... a blind date is... someone else believing they know a good match for you?"

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Hai," she relaxes a little since this is avoiding her Uncle. Mostly. "My Uncle thought he was helping. He thought I needed to try dating and his younger co-worker would be.... a respectable prospect. Usually it is friends who set bind dates up."

But that had been a horrible date. She was still unhappy with him for not saying he had set her up on a blind date.

"I would have trusted my mother to find a suitable match eventually. That was only expected. Indeed, a match normally would have been made by the age I was, but my pilgrimage delayed arrangements, and she believed she could do better once I had achieved more as a kensai. Most other relatives... I do not think I would have appreciated the marriage as much, or been sure it was intended to be to my benefit."

"I probably would have allowed my mother to set up blind dates. She wouldn't have selected someone who would annoy me at least.... I think sometimes there can be an advantage to letting one's mother deal with some matters. Family often understands what you need better than anyone else would."

Well she thinks Mothers often know best. Hers had always seemed to know just what was needed.

She tries to find a reason to agree or disagree but honestly both have merits. "I can see both being good for different reasons."

"You might want to ask Aimko-sempai for .... advice? I am not well versed in dating," she is not going to admit it would likely have her blush too. He's still in that area of being thought of as her teacher first.

People aren't supposed to think about their teachers dating.

He seems less shy, and more just perplexed. "Hai, a good idea. She might have some suggestions. It is a very... unusual idea."

It is an odd way this conversation has veered. At least it isn't too awkward. "At least you have an idea of what it is and you'll have some idea of what you need to know by the time you bring it up."

He nods. "Indeed, some vague idea, at least. I am not certain when would be a good time to bring such topics up, but she is my lord... and thus likely the appropriate person to talk to."

"You'll figure it out," Kayura says with slow confidence. She can't imagine him actually failing. She doesn't quite get Amiko being his lord but it doesn't really matter in the long run as far as she is concerned. They all fight for a similar reason.

"Perhaps." he agrees. "At least enough to keep up appearances until my task is done here." As to his odd relationship with Amiko - he's a samurai. Someone needs to be lord, and as far as he can tell, his family's daimyo's line has long since ended, wheras Amiko does a pretty good job telling them what needs to be done.

He quiets a few moments, as if pondering something very deeply. Then he shakes his head. "I will never return home." he replies with conviction.

"Ah." She does not know what to say about that. She decides that nothing is the best thing. She will though admit that statement is slightly worrying but she won't push or pry.

He considers her expression a few moments, and seems, if nothing else, resigned to potentially field questions. When none come, he adds, "Even were it possible, I have seen too much. It would endanger that time and this one... and it is not possible in any case. Perhaps for the best."

"I wasn't going to push for answers," Kayura points out. "I do not wish to invade your privacy, Sempai."

She tries very hard to be as polite as she can.
