Small animals make everything more fun...right?

He'd been polite and had even used that knocking-spell Orlen had set up on her place to get permission before teleporting in. He didn't really see the point of it really, but if that was what people wanted...alright then.

Currently he was set up on her living room floor, sitting there and showing off new minor spells he'd been practicing. As if the poor archer's place didn't have enough magic in it, here he was infusing extra in the air. "May I have something to drink please?" Magic was thirsty work and one did not manage to make her books dance to The Black Keys without needing a refreshment. Disney had it right, musicals were best with normally inanimate objects.

He had to admit, Frances made a very cute grumpy owl, so when she stopped attacking it was hard to keep the smile off his face. But he tried! Unfortunately her 'flying' display made that even harder and he resorted to biting his lip and trying so hard not to snicker at the poor cranky owl spazzing on descent. Tried. Because there was no way he was going to be successful at that, even when using his hat to try and hide the smile on his face.

Even at this angle, it wasn't hard to see how amused Martin's expression was at the whole situation. And she couldn't really blame him, it was an accident and this scene could be funny. Regardless, it was still a pain in her ass and pretty embarrassing to boot. "Freaking magic," she screed in defeat and squat down into the floor.

He could tell she was very much not happy about this, so he did try to hold back the giggles still. She looked awfully cute there, the cranky owl sulking on the carpet. Martin gave her a few minutes of sulking on her own before he carefully floated over on his disc and reached out with his hat, using the brim to gently stroke her feathers. "Sorry about this Frances..."

She made a prrting noise in her chest, which was apparently owl for a grumbling sigh. The hat brushed on the crown of her head and that felt weird, having feathers to pick up on touch. She caught the brim in her beak and shook it lightly like a handshake to show no hard feelings. Well, as long as there was work towards undoing it, no hard feelings. Letting go, she had a full body shake, fluffing her feathers into place before sitting down and canting her head to the side to look at him. Owls had shitty binocular vision!

Martin gave owl!Frances a smile at the tiny owl equivalent of a handshake, good that he seemed somewhat forgiven. "I'll fix it, you'll see. But we can't do it here, too much magic and stuff in the air right now, need to wait a bit and then try somewhere else," he explained, watching her fluff with a shake and finally letting out a giggle. What? Owls were cute. And...oooh. Associated with magic. This was very Harry Potter! But without the wands of course. He had his very own owl! This was pretty cool.

Martin grinned at her and the adorable owl stare. "What do owls eat? Maybe we can go out and find some of it? Are they like parrots who like crackers? I don't think you want to eat mice..."

She gave him a small 'I heard that' squint at the giggle, but let his humor slide. Thankfully she hadn't been turned into a hagfish. Martin was still very very tall, so back she went to the couch to scale up the blanket to higher ground. If she was more settled, she'd have a pirate adventure them going on as she climbed around like Errol Flynn or something Up on the arm of the couch, she was barely at his hip but better.

She leaned her head back, reproachful. What she remembered from biology, most owls ate insects and mice. And then puked the inedible bits. "I am not puking up anything without a liberal use of Yukon Jack and a mechanical bull," she warbled in irritation and tapped a talon impatiently.

He watched the little, still grouchy it seemed, owl climb up to couch to make annoyed noises and tap talons at him. Well at least he felt big in comparison to her. "I don't speak owl, sorry. Maybe we can go to our usual milkshake place and see if they have any snacks for you? I'll even only teleport partway and walk the rest of the way if you want."

Right, she can express herself but no one understands screech-screech. "Which means I can get graphically rude and not ruin innocent ears and get in trouble." She couldn't roll her eyes, so she just flopped back in drama for interpretation. Would a ice cream parlor really have owl-snacks? Pushing herself back up, she waddled over to the edge of the sofa and stuck one clawed foot for a lift up. There was no way she could keep up with legs shorter than his fingers!

He had a very dramatic owl here it seemed. And ice cream parlours had other stuff! Maybe a cookie for the owl? Or something? Well either way they needed to get out of the still magic-smokey room and he counted that asking for a lift as an agreement with his awesome milkshake idea.

Martin smiled happily and held out his hat for her to climb up on so he could bring it up to his shoulder for her to hop on. "Don't worry, we'll find something for you to snack on."

Frances maneuvered over to the hat, pointy claws catching on the felt as she righted herself. That'll go well. Do you have banana split with extra crickets? Hopefully they'd just let it pass or Martin could up an invisibility cloak around her without having the magics mix and backfire. "Oh, sweet, maple-flavored balls of a moose, this is really high," she warbled and shuffled higher up his shoulder from the edge. Crouching a little to brace and absorb, she expected riding on someone's shoulder to be like riding a very lumbering wave.

"That tickles Frances," he told her with a slight giggle and scrunch of his shoulders, because the tiny talons shuffling along his shoulder and the feathers brushing against his neck now didn't help. But in a moment he conjured up a disc and teleported them to the usual alley he teleported to, to walk the rest of the way to the ice cream parlour. After all, while he didn't have a secret ID, Frances did, and he couldn't make it a point of always teleporting in front of the door when the people there knew he usually came with her. So the young mage stepped off his disc, looked both ways, then strolled onto the sidewalk, owl on his shoulder and all.

Very discrete.

"It's like Harry Potter. Except I don't have a wand and you can't fly and carry my mail," he whispered to her.

Frances chattered in satisfaction when she found out she still had a card up her... wing. She could give him a tickle with a fluffing up or even nip his ear if there were dire times. This she could handle. He walked through the streets, a pitching only a little from side to side, which was manageable as long as she paid attention. The expressions they got when someone noticed the fluffy tumor on his shoulder made her snicker and maybe even enjoy the good parts.

She snorted, which came out more as a tiny sneeze than a snort, and focused on carefully trying to trill-warble through the first seven notes of the movie's theme. It was shaky but at least not too tone-deaf.

For once he didn't mind people staring, because in this case they were looking at the awesomeness of the teen with an owl on his shoulder. But mainly the owl, which was better.

He snickered at the owl sound effects he got. "Ooh, do another one. We'll have like theme songs while we walk!"

Squatting as low as possible, she went for 'ominous owl' while doing the beginning of the Imperial March for Star Wars. Which sounds foreboding except for it being on the equivalent of a tin whistle. Some of the passer-bys did a few more double takes and she tilted her head sideways in amusement to play with them.

Martin tried to keep his snickering under control and put on a serious expression as he marched towards the milkshake place. They certainly were quite the image.

He hummed the last few bars with her as they got to the door of the place, just as someone was leaving so he could stick his foot out and catch the door. No need for TK at least.

"Where do you want to sit?" He asked the owl on his shoulder as they entered.

First, she would have said to their normal spot, but that would have stupid due to her lack to cover the entrances and exits correctly. And owls had crappy sight in bright light. She bounced down his shoulder towards a more shady part of the restaurant to direct him. Once they found a table, she launched off and worked on flapping to slow down, talons first. It was a rough landing, no surprise, but she shook off to walk around the table top.

He followed his owl's directions dutifully and went off to the table with more shade, trying not to grin too much at Frances' landing. Sliding into his seat Martin waited for the waitress and the usual menu to come. "You make a very cute owl Frances," he nodded and said quietly. "What do you want to eat? Or drink!"

She gave an owlly sneeze at the praise. She was a badass markswoman and made a killer caramel brownie, she was not cute. Squawking once, she kicked herself for forgetting her voice and looked around. She didn't know pinafore, so she bounced over to the menu. Can owls drink milk? She'd really like something stiff to be honest but was certain that'd be bad too. Finding the water on the list, she started picking at it to make a point.

Martin decided to take the sneeze and squawk as grudging agreement because why not? She did make a cute owl. Not everyday you got an owl friend after all. Or well...turned one into an owl friend. Still, he'd fix that.

He leaned forward to see what she was pecking at. "Okay, water for you. But the waitress lady is going to get mad if you damage her menus." Though he suspected the entrance of a customer with an owl meant the waitress would be around in a moment.

Frances snorted again and pecked at the menu's plastic to just push the line. She walked across the menu to read the milkshakes list, stretching up tall and squatting down, trying to get her eyes to focus properly. Looked like owl aerobics.

When the waitress did come over, sweet Jesus, she was huge. Frances had gotten used to Martin but a full grown adult was practically a mammoth. She scurried to the far side of Martin from the waitress and side-eyed her fiercely, well fiercely as possible.

The owl squinting and aerobics were just a tad too much, and Martin had degenerated into muffled laughter that he was trying to hide against his sleeve. What? She made an entertaining owl.

He had to try to compose himself when the waitress came, and gave the woman a friendly smile, laughter still at the edge of it. Normally Frances dealt with the ordering and the adults and stuff, she was the adult between them. Though it might've struck the woman as odd that he was there without Frances. As if the owl thing wasn't more than enough odd. Attempt at looking composed was shot the moment the tiny owl skittered to his side to use him as a barrier between her and the waitress. After some lip-biting snickering, Martin manages to actually get out an order. "We'll have...a water. And two small milkshakes! One toffee and one oreo," he said with a bright youthful smile.

The waitress would have said something about the bird, but this little guy was a regular and tipped well. As long as the bird didn't flap around and crap on things, she figured the management would let this slide. She wrote up the order and smirked at the dressed up kid. "Sure thing, coming up."

The Matterhorn With An Apron left and Frances came back out from behind Martin to watch her leave. She really hated being tiny. And then she turned her head up to snort at Martin for snickering, then rush over to peck and mess with one of his cuff buttons in revenge. "And I totally noticed the two milkshakes, Martin Baum. I suppose I should be grateful you didn't get the grande-size," she scolded. "I need a magician with a tummy ache and sugar high like I need a spare nostril."

He beamed back, happy that Frances the owl was going to be apparently allowed to stay for a milkshake.

Martin jumped slightly at the cuff pecking and the scolding squawks. Good thing he kept his sleeves rolled up to his forearms so she wasn't pecking near the gloves. "Hey! One's for you, you know." Which she obviously couldn't drink, or at least drink all of, while an owl so he'd be very helpful and offer to help her finish it. See? Brilliant plan.

'One's for you, you know.' She pahhed at the bullpuck and really wished she could roll her eyes. She'd bet her favorite boots that owls were lactose intolerant, to start off the list of ways that would be wrong. And what would this body be like during a sugar rush? Small and full of frantic energy with no ability to fly. "You are fooling no one, Pip. You are opportunist and total shake-mooch, that's what."

He made a face at the owl and her unintelligible lecturing. He might've pointed out that she helped his opportunist streak along and was an excellent example for it, but conversation with owls were hard to hold. So defaulting to face making it was.

"Don't be like that, you still get something too you know. And then we'll go find a place to fix this. Not your place though...too much in the air and we made enough of a mess. Hmmm...oh! My room in the HQ! I can show you my room and I've got a laptop Anya gave me so you can watch stuff while I set up the spell! There's probably crackers somewhere in the kitchen I think...owls like crackers right? Like parrots?"
