The Camping Trip
Argo had called up, somewhat thrilled about going on another trip. Then again, anything seemed to excite Argo or make him wish to adventure these days! Dolemeck was a bit hesitant to go, as EVERY adventure he went on with Argo led to some misadventure or chaos breaking out. But this one sounded... normal. They would rent some horses and go to Montana for a camping trip. No monsters, no crazy ex-girlfriends, no strippers... just camping with the guys. It sounded so normal, Dolemeck had to pinch himself to see if he was having a dream.

Being as this was so normal, Dolemeck did not tell Tyler. Besides, he was a grown man and did not need to tell him everything anymore, right? He left a note on the fridge that he would be gone for a few days, and that he left Tyler a few cooked meals as an act of kindness (and because eating out was expensive). Dolemeck even managed to get time off of work as a barista and model to be able to go on this little adventure, so there was not a single loose end.

Upon his arrival in Montana, Dolemeck waited for Argo's plane to arrive. After-all, he knew where they were going!

"Do not concern yourself, Dolemeck," Argo said. "We are going to do this the manly way! Hot dogs, roasted over an open flame!"

"Talk about straight to the point," he said with an amused smirk as he watched Dolomeck head directly to the kitchen. "I'm with Argo, open roasting food. You can make that other stuff at home, it's frickin' campfire time."

"Well, can I not at least prepare the chicken in here like we did in my era?" He asked somewhat meekly, still in that apron. "I can season it in here, then bring it outside and cut some branches down to make a proper roaster with the fire pit... is that not manly?"

Argo considered this, then shrugged. "Fine, fine," he said. "Come, Phil. Let us get the fire set up and see if we cannot fashion a spit."

Phil chuckled and shook his head at Dolomeck before strolling outside to go watch Argo do the manly fire pit thing.

Dolemeck came running outside, eventually. He had a seasoned chicken in a pan to be roasted in the fire pit, as well as a bag of hot dogs, like Argo wanted. He moved to place the food on a tree stump, before working to cut down some proper branches in order to make a rotisserie of sorts. The then skewered the chicken on a long stick, resting it on two branches so it would not fall into the fire itself.

"Well, that was easy!" he smiled proudly, carefully rotating the chicken that was on the stick, making sure it was cooking well. "Argo, I got you those... Hot Dogs you desired. I have no clue what they are, but how could I deny you food that you desired?"

Argo got the hot dogs set up to cook as well, keeping a careful eye on them.

"In truth, Dolemeck, I know not exactly what they are either, save that they are not actually made from dog."

Seriously...these two. Phil rolled his eyes. "Usually a mix of meats, mostly beef and pork. You can get all beef though, those are good." He held out his hand impatiently. "Hand over the package, let's see what you bought."

Dolemeck handed Phil the package of hot dogs he found in the kitchen. They said "Ballpark Beef Franks" on the package. He then turned back to rotating the chicken over the fire.

"It was all I saw in there, Phil. And it was what Argo wanted, aye?"

Argo kept his own attention on making sure that the hot dogs were cooking properly. "Ah, beef and pork. Two of the grandest foods in the realm. Along with fowl and fish and mutton and..."

"There you go," he said, throwing his hands up and gesturing to the packaging. "All beef on this one. Appropriate given you Argo."

"No meal is a good meal without some meat to it. Vegetarians...I couldn't live like that."

"What is a Vegetarian? Is it some disease?" he asked innocently, still focusing on cooking that chicken. No one was going to get food poisoning on his watch!

"Ah!" Argo said. "I have dated the occasional vegetarian. They do not believe in eating meat."

"Disease wouldn't be far off. Don't eat meat, they don't believe in eating meat and even worse...most of them try to get you not to eat meat." He turns to Argo. "'Dated'? As in actually went out with more than let's say twice. Thought you slept with them."

"How can people not eat meat!? How can they live without mutton... or chicken... or beef!?" Dolemeck was clearly in shock over this. "I swear, I shall never understand this era."

He then turned to Argo, still roasting the chicken quite carefully over the pit.

"Aye, when you say "date", does that mean more than going to your bed?"

Argo looked a little annoyed. "I'll have you know I do more than sleep with women. I go out to dinner, or out for drinks and dancing, or perhaps to a movie. Sometimes, I serenade them."

Phil looked skeptical. "Uh huh. And do you do all this once, then sleep with them, and move onto the next lovely lady?"

"I concur with Phil." Dolemeck nodded as he checked on the chicken. "That is a single date and not "dating". "Dating" implies more than one date, and sex is not always involved."

He secretly prayed no one brought up how he could only get perhaps three or five dates in before he is dumped. Often cruelly so.

An amused 'yeah sure' look on his face and he turned his hotdog on his stick. "Dating also implies seeing the woman regularly, and not just booty calls."

"What is a booty call?" He asks in a rather innocent tone, before turning back to Argo. "There is more to life than just bedding a woman. Like companionship, emotional bonds, friendship, someone to spend the rest of your... life with."

Now he unintentionally made himself depressed. Dolemeck quickly shuts up and goes back to roasting the chicken.

Argo frowned. "The rest of my life is... eternal, Dolemeck. And I have made amazing friends in this world, whom I hope to remember all my days, even when they are naught but dust.

"But the heart is a fragile thing, even for a god. If were to give away my heart, even a lifetime becomes the blink of an eye.. And I would remain eternally as a I am, while the passage of time goes on. T'would not be fair... and far too heartbreaking when they did pass.

"So I live my life in the moment, in the now. I take my pleasures, and share a few treasured moments with many. It makes me happy, and it brings happiness to others. I can think of far worse ways to spend eternity."

"It's a call just for them to come over and bang," he said casually to Dolomeck, though he couldn't say he agreed with Dol about the whole making bonds thing. Nothing wrong with Argo sleeping around, the god had the right philosophy on life to an extent. Live in the moment, live for enjoyment too. That's how he planned on doing it, and hell, it was his favourite thing about Argo.

"Sorry, not sorry, Dol. I'm with him on the live in the moment and make yourself happy. Long life ahead, enjoy the hell out of it. Because you're the one who makes yourself happy, you can't exactly expect others to give you happiness if you can't do it for yourself." Phil sat back and idly turned his stick around to inspect his hotdog, blowing out a small flame on the end he intentionally let happen.

"Hey, Argo? Got any extras roasting on yours?"

"Family is just important to me, Phil. I always wanted one of my own. To settle down, raise a few children with a wife, grow old, and then watch as my family starts families of their very own." He shrugged his shoulders.

"Living in the here and now mentality does not work for me. I live over a thousand years just going day to day. Forgive me if it sounds greedy, but I want more out of my life. I want to spend the rest of my days with someone I love dearly." He carefully removed the chicken from the makeshift roaster, and then placed it on a plate.

"I will never age, never experience what it is like to truly grow old. Despite that small quip, I am still mortal, and I still desire that dream." He starts carving up the chicken with a knife he took with him from the kitchen.

"Now then, who wants some chicken?"

"I think I can spare one," Argo assured Phil. "Especially with some chicken to make up for it."

He shook his head. "As I said, I value my friendships deeply. But I hear my father's sadness when he speaks of his mortal wives. I do not know that I could bear to mourn so."
