Eat Drink And Be Merry
The trip to Moscow went rather smoothly. With all the kids in the jet, she would have expected some chaos, but after an hour or so in the air, they settled down. Some even slept, which was the best thing they could do with the timezone changes and all. Natasha read reports her nephew sent and had finished the stack of papers by the time they arrived in Moscow in the early morning.

The kids were given a car and driver along with a security detail and were given most of the day to explore Moscow. Natasha spent most of it with her nephew and his finacee. There was a brief meeting with Putin that she somehow managed to get through. Was it bad that she still wanted to shoot the man?

Dinner was a grand affair. A formal banquet with all the trappings and all of the kids were on their best behavior. There wasn't even any bickering between Misha and Anya. Natasha would take the small miracles when she could.

After dinner they retired to their rooms for an hour to change and freshen up. Natasha slipped into her second dress and made a quick call to Tony. Then she headed downstairs to the ballroom.

"You look hurt," she said. "What you haven't told them that you've found a suitable guy already?" She winked. She couldn't imagine what it had to be like for him to have people going on about getting married and having kids. She thought her mother was bad for already having mentioned grandkids, but Misha had it a hundred times worse.

"I am, thank you. It's a wonderful party and I'm glad I'm here."

"I'm glad you're enjoying yourself." He took her hand to tuck into his elbow and nodded at a passing diplomat. "My fear is that they'll try to be politically correct and really find me a nice, suitable guy."

Cait laughed. "You know, I could see that happening." She let him lead her through the room. "You look great. I'm surprised there aren't girls lining up to dance with you."

"They're wondering why I'm not lining up to dance with them." She was very good for his ego. "There is a method here. I have to get my family duty dances out of the way before I'm free to dance where I want, as long as I make the rounds and dance with the notables. You'll get a line of men wanting to dance soon enough."

"You may have to wait a bit. I thought I saw your sister sneak out with her boyfriend already and your mom seems occupied with your cousin. You may escape the torture."

Cait laughed a little at the last bit. "I doubt that. I'm a nobody from the jungle."

"Honey, if they had the files on your family, you'd be higher on the social list than I am." He shot her an unguarded grin and looked around. "I'm good at waiting. Corey seems to be having a good time."

"Please. The only place where my family matters is Nova Roma and everyone in this room probably hasn't heard of the place."

"So have you given him the obligatory older sibling talk yet and try to scare him away from your sister?" She looked across the room at her brother. "He is. He was all a gaga over the architecture today during the tour of the city. I teased him a little and told him about the terrakinetic in the Winter Guard, but didn't exactly say who it was."

He snorted a bit. "Eliza could scare him away all on her own just by the way appliances commit suicide in her presence but she can't live without them. It's the female Romanov trait."

"I was talking about your sister Anya. I'm still getting used to you having more than one sibling." And Corey dating? Yeah, she didn't want to think about that.

"You and me both." He half shrugged, but didn't comment on Anya's boyfriend. "Mom rides herd on them as she sees fit. So you directed Corey toward the Winter Guard, but didn't tell him Zemlya's name. That's cruel. They're a little stiff, but nice enough. I like training with them."

"I'm disappointed in you. I would have expected you to go all big brother on her boyfriend and scare the poor boy away."

Cait grinned. "We're on Grandpa William Manners behavior which means no arguing, no fights, no using powers, no being different or disruptive, but nothing was ever mentioned about subtle tormenting. Once Corey meets him, he's gone and will talk to no one else. I'm doing him a favor by making him socialize."

Then she became the Lady Mandarin, but that wasn't a party topic, or any other sort of topic. "Steve has the advantage of growing up Avenger to remind him what can happen to the unwary male."

Misha nodded toward a man not too far from Mikhail. "That's Zemlya. If I'd been thinking this summer, I could've taken Corey to the Winter Guard compound when James and I spent some time training with them. I even owe the kid. The last few years training with him at Xavier's helped me get through what Zemlya threw at me."

"I'm glad you didn't. Our mud fights would have become lopsided. It's bad enough he sinks me into the ground up to my neck at times. I don't need him learning any more tricks to use against me. I'm barely able to hold my own and don't tell him I said that either."
