Alpha Flight
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.

Christmas Day is a Christian holiday, it's true, but it also has become increasingly secular. It is an opportunity for love, charity, and goodwill.

There is some debate within mystical circles if there is indeed such a creature as the embodiment of Christmas Giving known as Santa Claus. But whether or not there is such a being, the spirit of giving itself is very real, be it incarnated in a fat man in a red suit or not.

Throughout this small blue planet of Earth, people have brought trees into their homes, decorated them with lights and ornaments, and placed them in locations of honor. Stockings have been placed on the chimneys. And gifts have been placed under the tree.

Some are looking forward more to the receiving than the giving. But for many, it is the act of giving which warms them, which fills them with the holiday spirit.

Each person, in their own way, becomes a part of this spirit of giving. Each person, in their own way, becomes Santa Claus.

Alpha Flight headquarters are fairly drab, but some lighting and decorations have been hung, and a tree sits in the common area. As for the team themselves...

Jordan goes after his brother. "You know quite well that Mom will never forgive you if she doesn't get a picture in our new hats. We've only been doing this every year since my first Christmas there. That, and you don't get to open your presents until you've been Santa's helper and given everyone else theirs. Same rule as at home."

There is the sound of a bit more scuffling, before Mason is dragged back by his collar, dragging his heels.

His shame is revealed to the team, as he's wearing a curly elf hat, complete with a bell hanging from the inside of the curl.

He sighs. So much for that second date with Marrina.

Mel smiles. "It's a nice hat."

"It is. Mom gets us both a new hat every year. It used to be Dad and him. Dad got the santa hat, and since he was... well, tiny, so an inch or two shorter than he is now, even, Mason got an elf hat. So when I moved in, I got the Santa hat, Mason got the elf hat... Mason isn't allowed to open any presents til Santa's helper hands out presents to everyone. Mom sent them in a care package this year."

Mason rubs the back of his head, until he realizes it's making the bell jingle. "We were always really big on the 'as a family' stuff. Dad drew the line at the four-seater bike though. Shot that one right down with his one allotted 'I insist' he got against Mom per year."

"Which was ok, we preferred mountain biking anyway. As soon as she realized we couldn't go anywhere interesting on a four seater anyhow, she gave in and just got everyone new bikes."
