Independents:
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.

Christmas Day is a Christian holiday, it's true, but it also has become increasingly secular. It is an opportunity for love, charity, and goodwill.

There is some debate within mystical circles if there is indeed such a creature as the embodiment of Christmas Giving known as Santa Claus. But whether or not there is such a being, the spirit of giving itself is very real, be it incarnated in a fat man in a red suit or not.

Throughout this small blue planet of Earth, people have brought trees into their homes, decorated them with lights and ornaments, and placed them in locations of honor. Stockings have been placed on the chimneys. And gifts have been placed under the tree.

Some are looking forward more to the receiving than the giving. But for many, it is the act of giving which warms them, which fills them with the holiday spirit.

Each person, in their own way, becomes a part of this spirit of giving. Each person, in their own way, becomes Santa Claus.

"I'm not trying to be Daredevil Jr.," he assured them, "just finding a way to help out while I'm working on my degree. Kal's hoping to become an Avenger, but I'm not opposed to helping out if needed. It keeps my skills up, too."

"No one is accusing you of being Daredevil Jr.," Elektra assured him. Though she did give her husband a look as if to say 'This is your fault'. "It's always good to help."

"I know you aren't, Mom." He gave her a smile. "Since we helped retake S.H.I.E.L.D., we're not exactly under the radar and I heard Dad and Nick Fury used to be friends. I'd rather you hear it from me."

It was always easier to tell Mom things first. Her look could be pretty unnerving.

Matt could hear that Look.

"Certainly better than hearing it from Nick, especially in some circumstances."

"You are wearing a mask, right?" she asked. "Though calling your father and Fury friends may be stretching it."

"Yes ma'am, mask and a little black pajama number." He squeezed her shoulder as he passed her to settle down on the other side of the sitting area. "It'll be all the rage in the spring fashions."

"They're quite comfortable." Matt can't help it there.

"Good," she said. She didn't want people coming after her son because of his nocturnal activities.

"You have presents to open."

He got up to get the gifts he'd brought for them, handing Mom a wrapped box and putting Dad's in his hands. "The outfit is comfortable. Still feels like I'm trick or treating some nights."

Matt inhales with a look of satisfaction at the new leather smell and puts one on. "Thanks, Jack. They feel wonderful."

Elektra ran a hand over the red cashmere sweater. "It's a beautiful sweater, Jack. Thank you." She smiled. "The perfect color."

"Always your color," Jack said with a smile. "I'm glad you like it. I got Eliza a gift card because I didn't know what she'd like. You think it's okay?"

He shrugged. "Yeah. The Starks and the Avengers keep her pretty busy, I guess. Maybe once things even out, we can get together for lunch or something more often."

"One hopes."
Matt indicates the wrapped boxes of charcoal and pastel sets. "I haven't heard anything being opened."

Jack grinned. His dad was one of the most patient people he knew. "Yes ma'am."

His parents knew just what he liked and art supplies were at the top of every gift list he'd ever handed them. "Thanks! I have a couple of new projects coming up for the next semester and these will be put to good use." He kissed his mother's cheek. Dad got an arm squeeze.
