open to Apollo
Link didn't come from a long line of magic. He was one of the few kids who had cropped up seemingly out of no where. The Ministry kept a look out for youngsters just like him, and there was a fun set up to help put such kids through school if they couldn't afford it. Everything had started to change when he was just thirteen. He started to notice things that he could do that he couldn't explain. It was always without intending to do them, too, which usually made for awkward situations. When he was fourteen and just about to go to high school, he was plucked up by a wizard and for the past year he'd been at Gorsemoor Academy. He'd hated returning home for the summer, and if he could have helped it he would have stayed at school. Both of his parents were alcoholics and they dabbled in illegal drugs quite often. The little trailer park Link had come from was a hell to the boy for many reasons, and this place? It was everything he'd ever wished for. Whenever the holidays came around, he was the one who always stayed, so it was no surprise that he'd stayed for spring break. It had been quiet, and he'd read a lot as well as wrote. He liked being on his own more than anything, and when the school started to fill up again he had to sigh in disappointment.

At the moment he was sitting outside beneath a tree, enjoying the weather while he listened to music and read over a book on herbology. He didn't see Apollo in the distance. He hadn't realized that Apollo and Ares had returned from break yet. The Avel twins were ruthless and he always tried to avoid them.

Apollo slowed down his speech as if speaking to a very stupid person. "I said show me what that muggle boy taught you about kissing."

He tilted his head, jutting his chin forward so that their lips were almost touching. At this point even he didn't know if he was mocking Link or if this was real. "Come on. Unless he wasn't that good at all and you're even worse at it."

Link could have sworn that the world had stopped moving, and that everything was suddenly very, very still. Swallowing hard, he held his breath and tried to figure out if Apollo was serious or not. He looked serious. He sounded serious. He was even so close that their lips were nearly touching.

Maybe it was the attraction that he felt for the other boy, or maybe it was the confusion mixed with that so much so that it bordered on complete frustration. Or maybe he just wanted to shut Apollo up for once, Link wasn't sure. Whatever it was, he felt a sudden push and he tipped his head upwards so that his lips brushed against Apollo's softly. It was careful, a barely there touch until he started to kiss harder and he parted his lips.

Apollo hated him even more now because the kiss pulled a little moan out of him and he knew that even if Link hadn't heard it, he would be able to feel it. As soon as he felt Link yield, lips parting, Apollo slipped his tongue inside, past the other boy's teeth.

His hand fell slack, releasing the shirt he'd been clutching moments before. But that didn't mean that Link was free from being held. Apollo's weight sagged against him. It felt incredible, but it was short lived. He wrenched back and stared at him and then, quite simply, he punched him right in the face.

Link not only felt the moan, he heard it. Before he had too long to think on it, though, Apollo was taking control of the kiss and Link let him. He let his guard down and relaxed, allowing himself to get lost a bit in the kiss and that was a mistake because before he knew it the kiss was over. He blinked and stared back at Apollo, trying to think of something to say but before he could the other boy's fist made contact with his face. Blood spurted from Link's lower lip as it split, and he dropped his book as the back of head collided with the tree trunk behind him. He let out a surprised little cry and then he just sort of sank to the ground as he lifted a hand up to cover his mouth.

The little bit of blood excited him, but not as much as the kiss had. The thrill of violence mixed with the undeniable rush of lust was making his head spin. Kneeling down in front of the crumpled boy, Apollo wanted to pounce on him, taste the wound he'd created with the punch.

Instead, he grabbed Link's chin and tilted his head up, aiming his wand at his face. Apollo, ironically enough, was very talented with healing charms. "Episkey," he mumbled and the flash of heat spread over the cut. "You fucking tell anyone about that and I'll punch you so hard I'll knock your head off."

When Apollo knelt down beside him and took his chin in his grasp, Link immediately stiffened up, especially when he saw the wand pointed at his face. Before he had time to say a word, he felt the quick zap of magic hit his lip - like a little electric shock, and he ran his tongue along his lower lip to clean up the blood. Apollo had roughed him up many times, Ares as well, but neither of them had ever ... healed him before.

"I won't," he said as he lifted a hand up to his mouth to touch it, shocked to find the split lip healed, though the pain was still lingering.

At least the kid still had the good sense to flinch and that satisfied Apollo. He took Link's chin back in his hand because he found that he liked it there. With his thumb, he tested the boy's bottom lip, dragging the pad across it, tugging it with a curious gentleness. He seemed mesmerized by the way it yielded to him.

"Maybe I should heal up all the marks I make on you. Less evidence. But I like the way they look, so I don't." Seeing bruises on Link that he'd caused was like seeing the story of their encounter written out on his skin for everyone else to read.

Link didn't try and pull his chin away out of Apollo's grasp, partly because he was afraid of the boy and partly because he liked the way it felt to have Apollo's touch be gentle for once. His heart skipped a beat as Apollo's thumb grazed along his lower lip, and he swallowed hard. He wasn't sure what to make of the comment. He couldn't help but wonder if Apollo would be angry if someone else marked him up, some other boy. Not Ares, but just - someone else. Their encounters were always confusing for Link, but this one had reached an entirely new level of confusion for the boy.

"No smart comeback? Maybe I should kiss you and then punch you more often." Because Apollo wasn't sure he'd ever simply kiss Link, that would just be bad news.

He stared for a bit longer and then released him. It kind of wasn't fair that he'd be thinking about this encounter for a long time after. He'd obsess over it--he knew himself too well.

They were both still kneeling, and the moment Apollo released him, Link grabbed the book he'd dropped and shoved it into his bag befor he got to his feet.

"I have to go," he mumbled, embarrassed by how flustered he was over their kiss.

He was going to have to tell himself over and over again that it meant nothing, nothing at all. This was Apollo Avel and the boy loathed him.

Apollo didn't want him to go, but at this point he was not going to make a big deal out of him staying. He really didn't want the other boy thinking he cared about whether or not he was around. His heart lurched though because the idea of stopping this encounter upset him. For one, he would be bored. Two, he didn't have the opportunity to take this any further and he realized in that moment that he did want to take this further.

That was a striking revelation to him and he very nearly attacked Link as a result. But he held himself back because the idea of touching Link right now was alarming and frustrating. So he let him go, glaring at his back.

Ares had wandered outside right about then, and he'd come along just a few minutes after Link had departed. He could see the boy's back retreating in the distance as he approached his brother, and he let out a snicker.

"What'd you do, make him cry this time?" he asked as he tossed his brother an apple he'd plucked from Professor Windam's garden. She'd never miss it. "I got us some fruit, "Hid it in our hiding place. Well, 'cept these two apples," he added as he took a big bite.

The appearance of Ares instantly soothed Apollo. The boy just wasn't right without his brother around. Or so it seemed when he was dealing with Link. If Ares had been there, none of that shit would have every happened.

"Was he crying?" he asked with a weird look on his face, hoping Ares had had a chance to actually see it. Normally, he would have caught the apple, but instead he wasn't prepared and it hit him on the shoulder. He picked it up as he stood up and stared at it in his hand. "I punched him," he said finally, leaving out the details about kissing him and healing him.

"No, he looked like he was about to, though," Ares said as he bit into the apple and chewed before he tossed it up in the air, only to catch it again. "That's what the blood was from then," he added with a satisfied little smirk. "I think he has a weird crush on you, you know. The way he looks at you when he thinks no one is paying attention - it's kind of obvious. Not that you'd ever want anything to do with a dirty mudblood."

Apollo forced his face to only register the anger that suggestion caused rather than the little bolt of excitement. "He's probably a filthy slut--I'd fuck him--but I'd double bag it. Don't want to catch anything." It was the sort of thing he'd say about anyone just to be demeaning and hateful. He forced one of his signature cruel laughs and wiggled his eyebrows at Ares.

"But he doesn't have a weird crush on me," he felt the need to say just to negate the possibility. He didn't want Ares even thinking that. "Not even a mudblood is fucking stupid enough to like someone who hates you that much."

Ares stared after Link as the boy's back got smaller and smaller, and he let out a faint laugh of amusement at his brother's words before he shrugged and then nodded his head.

"He is attractive, I suppose," he agreed. "For a mudblood. It's actually annoying that he's so pretty, all mudbloods should look like Francis Kitner," he grinned. "Terrible, I'd never touch that one - not even if I was paid to fuck him."

Apollo made a face at the very idea of Francis. That kid wasn't nearly as fun to make fun of as Link was and now Apollo had to wonder exactly why that was for him. Why did everything have to mean something now? Before today, he'd been perfectly content to feel blissfully ignorant about why he always wanted to push Link, punch him, touch him, be in his face constantly.

"Kitner has got to be part horklump." He shuddered. "If a wizard will breed with muggles, then who know what else it will do?" He tossed the apple up in the air a couple times, catching it each time before taking a bite himself.

"You do have a point," Ares agreed as he moved to sit down on the grass beneath the very tree that his brother had just held Link up against and kissed him.

Just behind him, laying in the grass, was a little green notebook. Ares didn't see it because it blended in with the grass nearly perfectly, as it was meant to. It was Link's journal and he'd put a spell on it for it to blend in to whatever surrounding it was around until he could find it again, just in case he lost it. It's one flaw was the silver spirals, that part didn't blend in, and when the sun hit it just right it glinted in the sun.

"Class starts tomorrow, I wish it didn't," Ares sighed dramtically as he took another bite of his apple.

Apollo, on the other hand, picked up the glint of spirals because the sun was angling on his side. But his eyes quickly darted away from it because he wanted it for himself. What was this world coming to that he wasn't sharing everything with Ares? He'd gone from totally dependent on his brother for a good time to hiding things from him in one afternoon. He would casually pick up the journal when Ares wouldn't notice. At least he hadn't gone soft; he had no intentions of giving it back to Link without reading it and if it was especially good, he'd copy a page or two and post it around the school.

"We should have tried harder to make the unicorn blood deal work. Then we could have come back late." It had fallen through because the dealer had met Apollo and realized he was just a kid. If their dad hadn't been drunk out of his mind, maybe he could have acted in Apollo's stead. But no. Apollo was trying to build back their fortune and their father was dead set on squandering it immediately.

One thing that Apollo and Link had in common was their alcoholic fathers, and that was something Apollo would soon come to know once he got his hands on the notebook. Ares was blissfully unaware of the treasure behind him, though, and he finished his apple before he tossed the core aside with a sigh.

"Yeah," he grumbled in agreement. "I don't see why our age even mattered - if we have the goods to trade, we have them. Age or not. It's still illegal either way."

Apollo wished he could balance the desire to abandon his parents and his sense of loyalty to the family name. When you were a pureblood, that was everything.

Lying down in the grass, he tilted his head back so that he was looking at Ares upside down. "Who are you asking to Spring Fling?" Apollo wasn't looking forward to the dance except for the usual shenanigans of spiking the punch and terrorizing the younger kids. He always took some throw away girl and abandoned her at the door.

ares might be strangely drawn to him because of his weirdness and the fact that he's older.]

"Not sure yet," Ares said as he tapped his fingertips against his chest. They were a bit sticky from the apple, and he made a face, but did nothing to clean them up. "I don't know if I want to ask anyone. Maybe I'll wait and see if someone asks me," he added as he tipped his head back to look at Apollo. "What about you? D'you wanna take someone in particular? Moira Donnelly is praying you'll ask her, in fact I'd not eat or drink anything she's been in a five foot radius of," he teased.

Huzzah!

Moira was pretty enough. Apollo offered a disinterested shrug and adjusted his gaze to the sky. "Maybe I should ask a guy just to piss Moira off." He quirked a smile at the thought of that. Donnelly was just starting to act too entitled, like it was going to happen because she was pureblood and rich and wouldn't it be just great to date a bad boy like Apollo.

He finished off his own apple finally and chucked the core as well. It hit Ares' core dead on and popped it up into the sky. He smiled to himself at that.

"Who would you ask, then?" Ares asked, lifting his head to watch the apple core bounce off his own before he settled back down and closed his eyes with a lazy yawn. "Who is pretty enough for you to ask, because you are one picky son of a bitch," he teased with a grin. "I'm not sure you could ever be with a girl for very long - you like to be too rough sometimes. A girl couldn't handle it."

"You're pretty," he laughed suddenly. "But even I'm not that pureblooded." He grinned viciously at Ares, reaching up to pinch him underneath his knee. He liked to tease about that. Some people thought they were too close for brothers, but Apollo had beaten the crap out of anyone he found starting rumors.

"Girls aren't bad. Some of them know how to use their bodies, but none that go to this fucking school." He wrinkled his nose, having gone through plenty of them. "Maybe Link. I'll make him dress up like a girl."
