He's cat-napping again when she finds him. He's still at the situation table, but there's nothing new yet. There's three different phones in reach for different callers on possible secure lines, but they're also quiet.

Still, he's been on edge enough that he starts awake at the sound of approaching footsteps. "Wha... oh."
He switches to French as he rubs the sleep out of his eyes. "After dealing with the U.N., are you ready to kill me yet, mon Coeur?" Yes, he's joking.

"The Doombots were a distraction, and considered disposable. There was no recall command or any intent to retrieve them. They were just doing as much damage as possible. Magneto and your father have been kidnapped. So has the Black Panther, but only a very few people know that, and it should stay that way. I am waiting for confirmation that Silver Sable and Namor have also disappeared, but it makes sense. We are currently waiting for a call back from Wakanda."

He smiles, lifting a hand to rest on her arm. "Do not pout, you're much more beautiful with a smile."

"When was the last time you ate?" She's one to talk at the moment, but the world isn't on her shoulders, now is it?

"They are alive, Mon Coeur. No one would have gone to so much trouble to kidnap them with no ransom demands or threats of any sort only to kill them. They would have just killed them." Of that much he's fairly sure, but then he's good at logic under pressure.

"Any of them could be held nearly indefinitely with sufficient sedatives or neutralizers. As for food... I... well, there were... peanuts. And water. You're going to tell me that doesn't count, aren't you?"

Andrew sighs. "They should not be arguing. This begins to make sense. Sarah, please take guards as needed, and inform anyone who has been working with small, technical equipment for more than four hours without a break that they are relieved until they've eaten and slept for at least two hours. Bring in the next available tech crew, and tell them to begin from the notes available and taking the idea that someone successfully sabotaged Dr. Doom's Doombots as a given. Assuming that, ask them if we can triangulate where their instructions were sent from, and if not, can we determine from the Doombots' memory files how long ago the new programming was installed? Also, please have a pilot and our fastest craft ready to be scrambled within a 5 minute notice. When that's done, please have someone see if we have contact information for the Fantastic Four. Finally, please see if someone is free to make myself and Giovanna sandwiches. She appears to be famished. Thank you."

When Sarah acknowledges all these things and leaves, Giovanna starts by just saying, "...I could have gotten the sandwiches, you know. No frilly apron required." Obviously, though, there's more to think about than food or jokes. "So it's nice to no longer know something that doesn't make sense, but now we don't know anything at all, when it comes to who the enemy is."

Andrew raises a brow. "No, we couldn't have, because I need you to stay nearby now. Dr. Doom is the only one who could have gotten robots or similar devices past Magneto. If it was not him, as we've been assuming, it means that our infiltrators were human or mutants, and in multiples. They need to have influence in Eastern Europe and Africa and reasonable naval capabilities to be at all aware of the defenses of Atlantis. Likewise, they need to benefit enough from political instability to take this level of risk. Check my logic here... no one would think to rule Latveria, Symkaria, Wakanda, Atlantis and Genosha. They're too widespread, and in some cases, too loyal to their rulers. Therefore the benefit is instability itself. It cannot be a friendly associate of Dr. Doom or my grandfather, further narrowing the field. Whoever it is almost certainly has Nazi ties... as the terrorists we're aware of with influence in mid and eastern Europe and South Africa, and still know where Atlantis is and have attacked it before would all be associated with Strucker, the Skull, Fenris, or Zemo. Likewise, those are the people with enmity with both Silver Sable and Magneto in particular, and no love of the Gypsy, Doom, or T'Challa... and most call Namor a personal enemy. ULTIMATUM has no naval capabilities we're aware of, or has never demonstrated any, and the Hand, while powerful in its areas, has not infiltrated areas without much Asian population to blend in with, to our knowledge. Doom tends to plan for people who rival his intellect, but overlooks the common man. Therefore... odds are that we have spies working for either AIM or Hydra still among us. At a guess. But an educated one."

A lot to chew on, but he wanted to air it out loud, make sure each step was flowing as logically as he thought it was. It was possible he was wrong, but it makes the most sense.

He asks her to check his logic, and so she follows it carefully. And as thought reasonably follows up on thought, she can only come to her usual conclusion: the boy she loves is stone-cold brilliant.

"That would make sense," she says. And then has to point out, "But it's going to make a lot less sense to a large number of people in many different countries who want Latverian blood right now. This one included."

"As usual, you're right. Which is why I need to reach the Fantastic Four right now. SHIELD will be arriving soon, and in their usual overbearing manner, they will take any request to back their vehicles off to international water as an admission of guilt. I need to confirm that Doom is, indeed, not in Latveria, and the only people I am totally confident can do that would be Reed Richards or Kristoff Vernard. Meanwhile, we need to find out what frequency the spies are transmitting on, if any. Trace it, then capture them for questioning and forge their calls to buy ourselves at least enough time to get to Symkaria before anyone is missing. If non-powered terrorists got to Doom and Magneto, they've been watching for at least a month. I know politics and terrorist organizations, but I don't know guard rotations, security codes, who in the bureaucracy has been here for more than five years and who is newer, and it would look suspicious if I looked it up. On the other hand, you looking up guard rotations and the like would look like... well, Tuesday. I need you to contact people you are absolutely sure we can trust, and determine who all has had access to Magneto's quarters, and of them, how many have been here for less than two years... and see if a trustworthy telepath can take a look at them without tipping them off. Meanwhile, I need to try and get us diplomatic clearance to travel to Symkaria. We need to get closer to the situation, and they're the only nation in the region not outright hostile to us."

She frowns. "SHIELD wouldn't da-- yes, they would."

She listens and nods. "That's going to be an interesting list." Genosha had, of course, high immigration levels; there were new people coming in all the time. Fewer new people got into a sensitive position like that, of course. It was horrifying to think that they'd allowed some kind of Nazi spy that kind of access. Well, look what had happened.

And then somebody brought sandwiches. Finally.
"Are you sure going to Symkaria would help? There's so much to deal with here."

He waits until the server leaves, just in case, then continues. "There is a great deal to do here, but being here won't solve the situation. To do this, someone had to take out Doom first. They have to have had large scale resources close by in order to reprogram all these Doombots. We are not going to be permitted inside the borders of any other Eastern European nation. Symkaria was attacked first, which means the remains of Doombots there will also have the oldest protocols. With Dr. Vernard's help, hopefully, we should be able to trace the terrorists backwards... but we need to be closer. But first, we need permission to go there, officially, or SHIELD will arrest us and blockade Genosha."

A coarse 12th-century word regarding SHIELD's attitudes. "You've convinced me. Now eat."

She ate as well, but also watched him intently.

It was all so galling, of course. The mistrust they both knew they'd be facing. The mistrust they always faced in one form or another. It must be additionally galling for Andrew in some ways, since he didn't even share many of the 'damning' qualities and opinions of many in their country.

It was funny the way things went. If the X-Men had been quicker to act than Magneto and her parents when they were eight, Andrew would either be on a dig somewhere right now, or the smartest boy at Xavier's, two inches closer to decent by human standards and hearing about the troubles of his scandalous grandfather's country on the news.

And the country would be doomed at a time like this.
And what's more, she would never have known him.
How selfish of her that the thoughts were equally horrible.

"Thank you. We're not going to get far out of Genosha without that." He takes down the number so he has something to give to SHIELD when they question him, which he's sure they will.

"Gio, get the plane scrambled. We're headed to Symkaria... we can eat on the way."

He responds into the phone, "Thank you, Akilah. I'll see you in Symkaria. We're working on confirming some information I'll make available to everyone when we get there."

Best to keep this short. He shares the phone number with Gio, in case anyone questions her, then hangs up.

"Time to go. Have someone wake your mother, she's in charge again. But defensive measures only, no one extends past our shores. SHIELD is not to be hindered as long as they do not set foot on Genoshan soil, but they are to be... /politely/ told that they will remain off of the island."

Gio listens and nods. The plane is notified, the sandwiches are grabbed. She calls Angelo to ask him to wake mother, and conveys that basic information to her.

Sarah Ryall's translucent form will hover inside the plane as they get into it and sit down. She informs them, just to let them know before they leave, that there are no new developments yet in triangulating the Doombots' signal sources and that calls to the Baxter Building were not put through to anyone relevant.

He curses under his breath in at least four languages. "Fine, if they're going to be that way... probably rather busy themselves... please contact Professor Charles Xavier at the Xavier's School for the Gifted. Inform him that there is an emergency, and I really must get through to Kristoff Vernard or Reed Richards as soon as possible." he gives the number where he can be contacted. "Please have them call me at their earliest convenience."

That done, he grabs the nearest computer and heads for the plane. "When we arrive, please be on guard. Specifically, I want you to watch Silver Sable... I have some difficulty believing that Hydra, AIM, the Skull... whoever is behind this, would proceed to the next dominoes without toppling the first one. They struck Symkaria first... that was either because Sable had ferreted out their spies, and thus we're headed to the safest possible locale, or else she didn't, in which case we're walking into a trap."

The defenses there may even just be set to blow up the castle and everything in it as soon as one of the regents of Atlantis enter. Doom is just as much their enemy as any of the rest of us."

Eventually, a call will be routed through to the plane's communication systems and the computer.
And there is Kristoff Vernard, quite possibly looking rather like Andrew feels.
The room in the background is completely unfamiliar, but distinctly does not look like it belongs in the Baxter Building.
"Vernard here." He'll pause before continuing. He wants to assume that since he still has a nervous system, there can't be too many problems in Genosha yet.

If that guess is correct, I will also guess that you can confirm or deny for me, with certainty, that Victor von Doom is not in Latveria, or, indeed, behind the attacks at all?"

For a moment, there is the awkward pause of a man whose lines have just been stolen.
"Mr. ...Summers, yes? I'm surprised that you're aware of the truth, but considering the fact that Doomstadt is still standing after the trouble spread to Genosha, I suppose I should not be too surprised." A breath. "I can. He disappeared before even the initial attacks on Symkaria began, and shortly after that the signals which motivate the Doombots were hijacked, as far as I can ascertain. But about your estimation, I cannot imagine any Latverian would be welcome in Symkaria right now. Please enlighten me."

Occasionally being better informed than people expected you to be works wonders in diplomacy. At the very least, after that people tend to listen, assuming you have some line of information they don't.
"Magneto is also missing. Others may or may not be as well. I am meeting Akilah Munroe in Symkaria, at the invitation of Silver Sable... though I am concerned she may also have been compromised. I believe that all of our home nations have come under attack by Hydra, AIM, or some other Nazi associated and sponsored cell. I also believe that the intent is destabilization of all the affected nations, Latveria included. Currently Genosha is in a defensive holding pattern. We are willing to verify that Latveria, or at least Doom, is not behind the assaults, which may gain you some headway... especially given that I'm about 60 percent certain we're headed into a trap right now, and they would very much like to trap you too if I'm correct."

Two, she's been kidnapped like the others and replaced." he silently thanks Kristoff for confirming that Namor was also kidnapped. That increases the probabilities he's right. "And this is a trap, if two is the case. Three, I could be entirely off base and woefully underestimated an unknown foe. I try very hard not to do that. The most likely scenario is that someone took advantage of Doom's tendency to overlook the 'mere', and slipped spies into Laveria. They spent a few years milking cows until they were sure they were well established and beneath his notice, then eventually began the plan. In any case, if you would like to meet us, please request admission to Symkaria as members of the Fantastic Four... not Latverians. If they let you in, the odds that this is a trap drastically increase."

Kristoff listens, nodding at points, clearly thinking through a few others. "There are still urgent matters to be handled here, but we will see what we can do."

"Considering the chances, you are hurrying there yourself fairly eagerly, Mr. Summers." Says the man who waltzed into Latveria when he thought he was facing a potentially-homicidal-lunatic Doom whom he would personally annoy. "I understand if some cards must be close to the vest, but may I ask what you intend?"

"It depends upon which way the hunch swings. If they deny you access, or Silver Sable shows up with the Wild Pack in tow, then my goal will be to ally with her and learn what she knows. It would be very difficult for Hydra or Aim to impersonate, say, the Sandman. On the other hand, if they grant you admission to Symkaria, albeit with only a single escort, or if Silver Sable shows up with generic Symkarian guards, or better, both, we can assume that its a trap and take appropriate countermeasures. This is part of why I needed so urgently to contact you... you are, specifically, one of the very few 'tells' we get in this particular hand, to extend your metaphor. Your presence, or lack of, is one of the only two indications I have on whether Sable is on our side or not."

Your theory is entirely well-reasoned, but the circumstances of his disappearance do not necessitate it." There's clearly something on Kristoff's mind there.

"I have a feeling that, once rescued, Doom will make sure he doesn't make the same mistake twice. I wouldn't worry about that either, regardless what happened. I also believe everyone captured is still alive. They're worth too much as bait, and why bother going to the trouble of capturing them in the first place if the goal was to assassinate them. I don't know how long that condition will last though. We can share academic details later. For now, do what you have to do, and contact me when you know the results of the request to come to Symkaria. Thank you, Dr. Vernard."

When the call is politely ended, Giovanna frowns. "Should have found you some decent clothes in your other size," she says. "I don't like the idea of your walking in there normal even initially right now. A handful of people we've never worked with before in some kind of AIM or HYDRA trap?"

She nods. "Of course."

And when they are questioned by a SHIELD patrol at the very edge of international waters, Gio's good. Doesn't say anything, in any language, except to answer the brief questions specifically asked.

Once they're through, she smiles wryly. Once more, she had some advantages over her parents. She didn't think of herself as a 'civilian', but she could pass for one.
