Tallie's impeccable work ethic meant most of the time she had no problem completing her holiday work way ahead of time, and that day in the Easter holiday was no exception: it was only a couple of days into the break, and she had just finished a long essay on the uses of runespoor eggs in Potions. Part of her contemplated ploughing straight into her next piece of work, but she figured that she deserved a break for the day - it was the holidays, after all.

Once she had put all of her school supplies away neatly in her room, Tallie drifted downstairs, looking to see who might be around. It was quieter than usual (partly why she had chosen that day to get a headstart on her work), so she supposed most of the Chandars were out of the house, but surely there had to be someone around.

Like Tallie, Parvati had been spending most of the day in the den working, though in her case it wasn't essays so much as sketches -- sheets upon sheets of scribbled sketches with various colors, mixed and matched to see what looked best. While she liked both eastern and western fashion, it had been a desire of hers for quite sometime to create something that was a fusion of the two. Though she had many ideas, it wasn't always easy to translate them onto paper in the form of something that would actually look not only good but edgy and fashion forward as well.

She sipped a glass of red wine as she glanced between two sketches, both similar, and wondering which would be the most flattering. Just then, a shuffling noise by the door caught her attention and she glanced over, just catching sight of Tallie before she passed the door frame. Parvati grinned to herself, realizing what she really needed was a second opinion. "Tallie, love," she called out. "Would you mind coming in here for a moment?"

At the sound of her name, Tallie turned back and popped her head into the den, smiling and coming in when Parvati summoned her. One of the things she loved about living there was the way Sameer and Parvati treated their children, and Tallie by extension; they didn't treat her like a stupid child.

As she moved further into the room, she couldn't help but look over Parvati's sketches, enthralled by them as always. Though she knew little about either, she did have an interest in art and fashion, and her sketches always looked so effortless, yet gorgeous. "They're beautiful," Tallie said genuinely, gesturing to the papers, and leant forwards to get a closer look.

Parvati smiled modestly as Tallie complimented her sketches, adjusting the glasses she wore when she needed to sit down and work with pencils. Using her wand, she brought closer a plushy chair and gestured for Tallie to sit. "I'm afraid they're a bit of a mess right now, actually," she said with a bit of a sigh as she held up one sketch to reveal a stack of messy papers underneath with other half finished sketches. Turning back to Tallie as she sat down, she reached out a hand to squeeze her knee affectionately. "Lucky you're around to help me sort them out, then, innit?" Now that the school year had started and Tallie was only around the house for a few weeks during the year and a Hogsmeade trip every now and then, Parvati rarely got to spend any time with her alone -- there were usually many other people around in the house which, truth be told, was a comfort to Parvati, who had naturally developed quite a motherly fondness towards Tallie and wanted to be assured that she was safe given the headlines that were constantly surrounding her.

To Parvati, ultimate safety was defined as close friends and tight-knit family; she, after all, had always had her sister and her best friends during school and imagined that was a big part of the reason she'd grown to then create such a large family of her own. Her heart went out to Tallie, who not only might as well have been an orphan for all the good her parents did her, but was an only child with no siblings with whom to share the burden she'd been bestowed. It was this knowledge, of Tallie being quite alone in the world, that made Parvati -- and the rest of the family -- more than happy to welcome her as one of their own into their home. It was not because of pity that Parvati called Tallie into the room to get her opinion; she'd have asked the same of any of her other daughters.

"I'm a little torn, you see," Parvati went on, getting down to business. "I want to create a dress that resembles what you'd see in a shop in a town, but also looks a bit like sari. You see I've got a large draping part over one shoulder, there? The only thing is, I don't know how I want the bottom to be." Pulling out the second sketch, she held them side by side for comparison. "This one here would be chiffon and quite elegant -- but not all that different from how an actual sari looks. Now this one here would be tulle and could be a little more youthful, maybe even shorter and fun for a party -- since saris are already very sophisticated, this mixes it up a little and offers the best of both worlds. But then..." She held up the first sketch again, pursing her lips a little. "This one would give a woman the option of looking like she's wearing a sari without the hassle of wrapping herself up in six yards of overwhelming fabric, d'youknowwhattamean?"

Tallie took a seat eagerly when Parvati pulled up a chair, excited to get to help her out sorting her drawings, as well as just spend some time with her: her own mother had rarely actively asked to bond with her like this, so it felt like a novelty to be called over, and a nice reminder that she was more than just a house guest. As she and Sameer were the heads of the house, it was a relief that she had been accepted into their home by them just as completely as their children, and they were not just putting up with her being there because Wes had asked if she could stay nearly a year before. Not to mention, Parvati was fun.

Both of the sketches Parvati held up looked lovely to Tallie, and she was not sure how to choose between them. In the end, she didn't. "How about both? You could make the second one part of a collection directed more towards younger women, because you're right, they would be good for a party - I know I'd buy one - but then the first one is still fantastic, and different enough to be made in its own right." In a way, Tallie was perhaps not the best person to ask, because she was fascinated the eastern style of clothing (she would always linger at Tilo's brightly-coloured saris whenever they raided through her wardrobe to look for an outfit) and would probably fall in love with just about anything Parvati made.

Parvati raised her eyebrows with interest when Tallie did not choose one but both of the sketches. Listening to her suggestions, she glanced back at the sketches herself, her eyes flickering between them. When she finished speaking, Parvati looked back up at her warmly, beginning to smile. "You're just as indecisive as me, then, eh?" she said with a wink before straightening up and piling the paper together, placing them back on the desk. "Good thing I was thinking along the same lines as you -- and now you've justified it for me. Pleasure doing business with you, Grey." Her playful business-like disposition didn't last very long as she reached out and tapped the bottom of Tallie's chin. She turned back towards her sketching tools, picking up a case of colored pencils that many of her Muggleborn colleagues had gotten her into the habit of using. "Next we can do colors -- oh I'm so sorry, love," she said suddenly, turning back to Tallie with a regretful expression. "Are you busy? Did you need something?"

Tallie was glad to hear that Parvati had had similar thoughts, worried that she hadn't been helpful in not being able to choose between the two. "I'm here to help!" she replied sweetly with a little laugh when Parvati tapped her chin, very much enjoying being on the receiving end of motherly little gestures such as these which still came as a pleasant surprise to her. She was glad to see that she hadn't just been called in for the one opinion, and was quick to shake her head when Parvati apologised and asked if she was busy. "Oh, no! I was looking for someone to talk to, actually-- I finished my essay," she explained, grinning earnestly with pride as she mentioned her completed school work.

(OMG I FAIL AT POSTING THIS SHIT SORRY IF YOU GET LIKE 50 EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS LOL)

Parvati's eyes widened as she gave Tallie an impressed look for finishing her essay. "Well done, you!" she commended her. "At least one of us has finished their work then, eh?" she added mischievously with a chuckle, glad both that she was not interrupting Tallie and that Tallie was now free to enjoy the rest of her holiday. "Can't imagine it was an easy feat to finish that essay, I remember what kind of work they'd assign over these so called 'holidays' -- pour yourself some red if you need it, love, God knows I did when I was in school!" She grinned at Tallie as if she'd just uttered some kind of scandalous secret before turning back to her case, opening it to extract some pencils of various vibrant hues so as to mix and match.

(god you're such a loser |-( LOL jk <33333333333)

"Thank you!" Tallie said with a modest smile when Parvati praised her, laughing when she offered her some of the wine-- after she had heard Wes go on about how strict his parents were when they were at school, she was always a little surprised when Parvati said things like this - that, and she was used to parents who didn't show much humour. When she pulled out the colouring pencils, Tallie couldn't help but take a few from the selection ont he table to compare, rolling them in her fingers. That was something she loved about Parvati's designs, and eastern clothing in general: it was so bright. "I like this one," she said brightly, and held up a rich, deep blue.

(ffs i fail)

Parvati glanced up as Tallie found a color she liked, and she smiled at the sight of it, shifting her gaze slightly so that she was looking past the pencil and towards Tallie. "True Ravenclaw, you are. Love it," she said, reaching out to take the pencil from Tallie and scribble a swatch of the color on the corner of the page. "What if we accent it with a deep green, give it a bit of a peacock look?" To give Tallie a visual, Parvati sorted through a couple of green pencils she had before finding one with the perfect shade and scribbling it next to the blue to compare. "What d'you think?"

Just then the sound of gum popping getting closer and closer was a clear alert that someone was coming -- though it wasn't long until it was made clear who it was. "There you are," Tilo said as she nearly walked past the room and did a double take, stepping in and shaking her head at Tallie, ignoring that she was with Parvati. "Come on then, we're going shopping." She wiggled her eyebrows evilly at her, looking over at her mother and then down at her sketches, before looking back at Tallie. "We recruiting for the sari shop?" she asked with a grin. "I could use some more hands on deck."
