Summary: Bekka is trying to be a good daughter, but it kind of sucks like a frog's ass, Rowan may be losing it.

Bekka had posted that she was going to be with her grandmother, and had texted her nana that she was going to try to stay the weekend at school. She was free, sort of. At least if she vanished like the others.. no one would look for her. At least not for a few days. Off the grid as it were, like it used to be, before her father lost everything, before her mother became just plane lost. Back when it was simple. Bekka used to be able to vanish for days at a time during the winter holidays, and almost all of the summer ones before her parents would notice- often too busy with their own lives to worry about hers. Just so long as she was pretty and presentable when the interviewers asked how proud she was of her father, and just so long as she gave the right answers. They loved her, Bekka was sure of this, even if it was in their own way. She should have told them, she should have hugged her mom and not gotten upset at her father, she should have... she needed to get away fro the weekend. Vanish.

However, this plane came into place before the news got out that more women had gone missing, and an obvious pattern came about, if only to Bekka. Her mother was dead. This sje had decided. Her mother was dead and if she wasn't, it may be best if she was, after all, if her father was so far gone after a week... she didn't want to think about it.

It was with shaking fingers that she dug out a cigarette lighter from her pocket, it was dark after all- and away from school grounds. If there was a few tears, one or two or seventeen, no one would be around to notice.

"Fuck the world" she muttered to herself. "Fuck 'em all."

Rowan had been spending most nights with Keegan. It was the only way that she could actually get some sleep anymore. But tonight, she had wanted to be in her own room, to try and get some work done and figure things out, research a bit. Not that there was much to go on at this point.

She couldn't concentrate though. There was too much going on in her head. So after only a little bit of time doing papers and homework for the weekend, she had sat there for a while at her desk, just thinking. Thinking about her mother, obviously, but also about the missing people in the abstract. Trying to use her brain to come up with a solution, a new way of searching and of looking for her mom. And Bekka's.

Her head throbbed a moment and she looked at the clock. It was getting late, but she didn't want to try and sleep yet. The image of her father's face kept floating into her mind, unbidden, and it was painful to think of. Grabbing her bag and throwing her slippers on, she decided to go for a walk, not really caring if she got locked out or not.

Since being with Keegan she had taken up the bad habit of smoking occasionally. Not as a real, addicted habit, but as a stress-relief and social sort of thing. Deciding that the parking lot was a good place to go since she didn't really feel like going into the woods alone, she trudged off with her wand in hand, waiting until she was far enough away that she could light up a cigarette and sit somewhere or lean on something and ...think some more.

But after getting the cigarettes out, she realized that she didn't have anything to light them with. All the fire spells she knew of off the top of her head were far too big to be practical. Cursing her lack of planning, she kept walking anyway, looking up to see... the flash of fire. Someone else was out here. Gathering her courage, she waited until she was closer before saying quietly into the night, "Sorry to bother you, but could I get a light?" in the direction of the small red glow.

Crap Bekka thought, someone else was out there. Someone who she probably went to school with, who she had no interest in them existing and now they- whoever they were, was about to see her crying.

She stayed silent for several moments, hoping that maybe they'd go away, trying to get the tears off of her cheeks. She harshly and hastily pressed against her eyes and nose, sniffed a far too loud sniff and swallowed. She hoped that it was just her imagination, whatever monster it was that was out there. That they were gone.

"Yeah?" She answered, "Who the hell is out there?" followed shortly after, as much of a dare as a question.

The dare/question almost made Rowan back down and apologize, turn around and go back to the dorm. Instead she figured that she had come outside, would like a cigarette, and didn't want to have to trudge all the way back to get her lighter. She figured she could always just get the light and go, whoever that was.

As she came a little closer, just a few steps, she realized that this person seemed familiar, though she couldn't really tell in the darkness.

"It's um... Rowan." She really hoped that it wasn't someone who didn't like her. That would be rather unwelcome at this point.

Of course it would be Rowan. Golden-heart Golden Girl. Bekka internally groaned and wiped at her face one more time. She had no intention of standing up and properly addressing the girl, and if only Rowan hadn't spoken, she would not have commented to her in the slightest. When she spoke, Bekka faced forward and drew her legs up to her chin.

"Since when the hell did you smoke?"

"Since when the hell do you give a shit?"

It was out of her mouth before she could stop it. Lack of sleep and feeling very upset in general left Rowan with a minimal filter sometimes. This was apparently one of those times.

Naturally she felt bad almost as soon as the words had left her mouth, so after only a second or two she followed that up with, "Look, can I just get a light? I'll be out of your way after that. Sorry to bother you."
