He should have known this was coming about the time he heard 'congratulations' and Addy's name combined into one sentence. It was a shame, though, that she was faster than him, and once she had a grip on his tie? He couldn't do anything but follow, even if he made mild protesting sounds in the process.
"I don't want to dance, Addy." He groaned as they found a spot. His hands settled on her hips, and a pout on his lips as he looked up at her (yes, up). "Congrats on the win?"
What? That was what you were supposed to say to your girlfriend, right?
"Well you're clearly so fucking glad to be here, maybe you decided to go ahead and fuck up my night too?" She linked her hands behind his neck and pulled hard so he would have to move.
"Well, I have good news and bad news for you. The good news is, I'm not wearing a bra. The bad news is, I didn't win. And if I won, you were going to get laid. So congratulations, now tonight sucks for us both."
"Jeez, for fuck's sake Adelaide..." He grunted as he was pulled in closer his hands staying firmly planted on her hips as he rolled his eyes.
"You didn't lose, you were still a princess. Its not like you didn't get any crown. I mean, what the fuck did you want me to do? Tell everyone to vote for you?" He resisted snorting, even though he wanted to. He was realistic at least, it wasn't as if a lot of people called either of them friend. And besides, "I didn't even want to be nominated, and you got my name on the list. I don't see why you've got your knickers all in a twist over this."
How did he not see why she was pissed?! "Do you not see the massive insult this is? I tied for 'most popular loser' with a mud-encrusted brotherfucker. This is so many kinds of not fucking okay." She wrenched him around then, so that it at least looked like they were making an effort to dance. "I get a half-tiara pity prize and a boyfriend who doesn't even give a shit that I'm upset."
Oh he groaned then, even while stumbling a little over his own feet. Damn, damn, damn.... this was not what he wanted to be doing while coming off a high. Why did she always jump him at the worst.times?
"It isn't that big of a deal! Stop acting like a loony bird, for Christ's sake." His voice left the boundaries of quiet argument to loud enough for other's to listen in, then. "I'm sorry you had to share the crown with Abby, my heart bleeds for you. Really."
"You are, as usual, missing the point by a country mile!" She was only just managing to keep her voice down, but even still it was more than likely that almost everyone was in earshot. God! What was so hard to understand?!
"All I wanted was a little insincere sympathy; just enough to make it seem like you 'get' it. You know, validate my pissedness. Then I'd shut up." She shook her head. "If you actually don't give a shit about me, all you have to do is fuckin' tell me."
"I'm sorry that I lack the sympathy you so crave. How would you like me to make it up to you, mm?" Though the fact fact that she said 'not getting laid' was slowly starting to makeitself known in mind caused him to stop shprt in their dancing. "Maybe having sex would make you feel better, you sprt of won....And you don't need a crown to be my queen."
"Sorry. Did you say something other than, 'I'm upset that I'm only the princess. I am fairly certain that is what I heard." Maybe a mad dash for someone else after this dance was a much better Idea than he'd given it credit for five seconds ago.
She slumped into him, not even pretending to dance anymore. "Oh, fuck me." She muttered. "Look... this isn't even fun." Usually when they fought it was at least entertaining to them. She saw a familiar face off to the side of the hall, and the seed of an idea began to form in her head.
An apologetic smile slid onto her face, and she smoothed down his hair lovingly. "Would you like to get out of here?"
Oh god, that was the best idea ever. "Yeah. I would love to get out of here." He murmured into he hair, hugging her tightly as he sort of danced in place.
Addy smiled. It was a rare moment of agreement. "Okay." She pecked a little, teasing kiss to his lips. "How about you go to your room, and I'll just take care of something here and meet you in a little bit?" She was pretty sure this truce in the neverending battle that was their relationship wasn't going to last without a little help.
