Tell a Friend
 Characters: Rowan and Casey
Setting: Monday, November 8th, after dinner in the Sonnier Common Room
Rating: SFW most likely
Summary: Rowan and Casey finally discuss that happened. There is photo evidence.

Their schedules hadn't meshed quite as well as Rowan had hoped, so it was almost a month before she and Casey both had some time free so they could chat.  Rowan had developed the photos and been quite shocked at what she saw.  That whole evening at Charlie's party, Rowan had been taking pictures left and right, not wanting to miss things.  It appeared though that she had started to just take random photographs of various groupings of people without really seeing what she was shooting.

She sat nervously in one of the larger chairs in her house common room, and thumbed through the photos once more before putting them in her bag beside her.  She had known that Casey was a bit on the intoxicated side that night, and hadn't been quite sure what he would remember, if anything, of what had happened.  Now she knew, and she felt like she was going to be the bearer of bad news.  Hopefully he wouldn't be too shocked by what he saw.  Maybe he even knew already.  She could hope at least.  She pulled a bag of cookies and a soda out of her bag and waited for the Beauregard boy to join her.

Casey, meanwhile, wasn't anything but perfectly calm and worry free as he walked over to Sonnier. He munched on a box of expresso beans on his way, having changed into something a bit more comfortable than his school uniform.

He didn't have any idea what to expect, but he hoped that it filled in at least some of the great big blank spaces in his memory of the night. He remembered having fun, but that was about it. Other than feeling a little sketched out when he saw one particular kid. Damned if he could remember the name.

Rowan was pretty easy to spot as he came into the Sonnier common room and he offered his friend a smile and a small wave as he headed over. "Hey."

Looking up as he came in, Rowan smiled in return. "Hey yourself! Cookie?" She held the bag up toward the boy. Rowan had a tendency toward liking sweets, and liked to offer her friends a treat when she saw them. Besides, everyone loved cookies.

Pulling her legs up under her to sit cross-legged in the chair, Rowan straightened her sweater and pulled her hair so it was back over her shoulders. "Sorry this didn't happen sooner. I feel like I haven't seen you in ages. How is everything in the life of Casey?"
thatmachineboy From: [info]thatmachineboy Date: November 13th, 2010 12:16 am (UTC) (Link)
"Eh, it's alright," Casey replied as he looked at the cookie bag with an excited look. He liked cookies. Loved them, even. So it was unsurprising that he plucked one from the bag with a small word of thanks.

He dragged another chair a bit closer so that they didn't have to talk too loud and flopped down into it. His legs stretched out in front of him and he just smiled. Casey loved the bog cozy chairs in the common rooms. "So have I missed anything good lately?"

She left the cookies out of her bag, in case he wanted to snag another one. Rowan sipped her soda before responding to him with a little laugh. "No, not really. I mean, things are pretty good, actually." And they were. In general, high school drama aside, things were going better than she had even hoped for herself.

"How about with you? I know I haven't seen you in forever..." Rowan thought that she didn't spend nearly enough time with Casey. She enjoyed his company immensely and felt like she could be herself around him.
thatmachineboy From: [info]thatmachineboy Date: November 13th, 2010 01:27 am (UTC) (Link)
Casey shrugged a little bit and started to munch on the cookie she offered him. He still had half a box of espresso beans and between the two, he was going to have a pretty major sugar rush in a little while. If not that, he was going to be up really late.

"Nope. Haven't missed anything good. Well, other than spending some time with Apple at Homecoming." Normally that wasn't at all notable, but the Rienzi had gotten him stoned. That was notable. "Otherwise it's been tinkering, gaming, studying... more gaming..."
cabotine From: [info]cabotine Date: November 13th, 2010 02:35 am (UTC) (Link)
"Ah. Well Apple is awesome, and... no news is... good news?" Her mind flashed to the photos in her bag, even as her eyes remained on the Beauregard boy. "Hey, do you think you could fix my discman for me? I think the laser might be broken, it keeps acting funny no matter what disc I put in..."

She smiled at the double mention of gaming. "So what do you play, exactly? I don't... I mean, I'm not a gamer, so I'm not really sure what all goes along with it..." She knew what most of the various systems were, and some of the games, but for the most part? Rowan was fairly clueless.
thatmachineboy From: [info]thatmachineboy Date: November 13th, 2010 02:38 am (UTC) (Link)
If there was one thing Casey was known for liking, it was fixing electronics. No matter how small the repair. His face lit up at the mention of it. "Yea, sure. I can take it back with me and have a look at it, see what I can do."

At the question he shrugged a little bit. "A little bit of everything. Tabletop, console, PC. I've been really into Fallout: New Vegas and Deadspace lately. I play World of Warcraft at times, too, and will hook up with people on Steam to play stuff. I play with Tatum there sometimes."
cabotine From: [info]cabotine Date: November 13th, 2010 03:17 am (UTC) (Link)
"That would be awesome. Thank you so much, Case." Rowan made a mental note to give the discman to him before they parted company. It would be nice to have it working properly again.

At the rest, she paused before replying. "Ok, I've heard of Warcraft..." There really wasn't much that Rowan knew about the gaming world. Her brother had some system or another, but he took it with him to college, and up in his room when he was home, so she wasn't even really sure what it was.

"And... tabletop? Like... Scrabble?"
thatmachineboy From: [info]thatmachineboy Date: November 13th, 2010 03:29 am (UTC) (Link)
Casey smiled broadly. "Never a problem, Rowan."

The smile faded after a moment to a look of shock. While the fact people didn't know much about the sort of games he was interested in didn't surprise him, he had to admit he was a little shocked that Rowan didn't know. Well, one learns something new every day.

"Not quite. It's... Dungeons & Dragons, is one," she had to have heard of that, everyone has heard of it. "A group of people sit around at a table with dice, and their characters have stats and equipment and abilities written on paper. So they talk as their characters and they roll dice to perform things, like combat. The better the scores the better chance they have of succeeding. It's fun. You should sit in on a game some time."
cabotine From: [info]cabotine Date: November 13th, 2010 03:35 am (UTC) (Link)
She registered the look of shock and realized in a moment that he obviously meant something else. What he said next made her want to smack her forehead with her hand and sigh at her own mental shortcomings.

"Duh. That kind of... yeah, I've heard of D&D, and even was curious about trying it but I never knew anyone who... I mean you don't exactly advertise that sort of thing, although I guess some people do and..." Rowan realized she was babbling and decided to just cut off the flow of words there with a deep breath. Pausing for a moment, she took a mental deep breath this time and collected her thoughts.

"I'd love to sit in at some point. Do you have a big group?"
thatmachineboy From: [info]thatmachineboy Date: November 13th, 2010 03:42 am (UTC) (Link)
"I do." There was nothing wrong with it. Well, he was used to the confused stares and those that clearly said they thought he was a nerd. It didn't matter. He was a nerd through and through.

Casey nodded. "It's not a huge group, really, but that's probably better. The bigger it is the harder it is to control. We're in between games now - there's many other ones aside from D&D - but I can let you know the next gaming club session where we're doing one?"
cabotine From: [info]cabotine Date: November 13th, 2010 05:35 am (UTC) (Link)
"I guess you need to know about it to pick up on it." Rowan was a nerd herself. No sense in denying it. She was a book-loving, hand-raising, homework-doing nerd, and she was rather proud of it at times. Sure it had gotten her into a few tight spots over the years, but now she was reaping the benefits of it, and her friends certainly didn't seem to really mind it. Neither did Keegan for that matter.

"I can see that. With so many people acting with their own agendas in character, it's bound to get a little out of control the more people there are playing. I would love for you to let me know that. I'm really curious about it now..." Indeed she looked it now.
thatmachineboy From: [info]thatmachineboy Date: November 13th, 2010 05:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
Casey grinned. He was always proud of himself whenever he managed to bring another person into the gamer fold. Even if it was just tabletop. Besides, the gaming club did need a few more members, or at least a couple other people to sit in on tabletop nights. "I'll definitely do that. When I find out what's going on."

He remembered after a moment that they had planned this meeting for a reason. There was something she wanted to tell him or something about what happened at Charlie's party at the beginning of the year. It'd probably help fill in all those blank spots. "So, on the point of your email, what was it you needed to share with me?"
cabotine From: [info]cabotine Date: November 13th, 2010 06:23 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Cool, I look forward to that then." Rowan smiled. It wasn't like she exactly needed another activity to keep her occupied after classes, but this sounded like a lot of fun. Plus it would give her an opportunity to be social with other, well, nerds. People who would probably share a good deal of her own interests.

He brought up the email she had sent him, and made a bit of a face, biting her lip and looking at him with an apologetic expression. "Well, ok. I was going around taking pictures of random things that were going on, half the time without realizing what I was taking a picture of. I kinda just wanted to take pictures of random groups of people at one point, I think, and... well, here..."

Rowan reached into her bag and pulled out a few developed photos. "I'm sorry it took so long to get these developed."
thatmachineboy From: [info]thatmachineboy Date: November 13th, 2010 06:30 pm (UTC) (Link)
The face she made made him give her a sidelong look of suspicion. He'd hoped that whatever it was that he was missing was good, but that look made him worry. What the hell had he done while drunk that made Rowan give him that expression?

Casey looked at the photos she held out for a moment, debating quickly on if he really wanted to know or not. After a moment he chose to take them from her and with a moment to brace himself for whatever he might see, he began to look at them.
cabotine From: [info]cabotine Date: November 13th, 2010 07:19 pm (UTC) (Link)
She didn't have many pictures of him at the party, but what she had was probably enough. There was a picture of him earlier on with a drink in hand, laughing at something. That was innocuous enough, and it was also earlier on when she was trying to get pictures of her friends.

As that hadn't taken too long, she had started on group shots next. Of the intentional ones of him, there was Addy with her arms around his neck, kissing him soundly with Leon standing in the background. Or it was probably Leon, anyway, based on what happened in the next photo. Casey had his hand at her waist.

Next was Leon with the back of Casey's shirt in his hand, and a blur that was Casey being pulled from Adelaide, her face heading toward angry.

The last picture she had was also a bit of a blur, containing people who looked like Addy and - she thought anyway - Rike fighting, with Leon and Casey in the background. The only way she could really tell was to go by their clothing colors and reason it out, since everyone was moving somehow and her camera just wasn't that good.

She handed them over to him, and then looked for his reaction.
thatmachineboy From: [info]thatmachineboy Date: November 14th, 2010 07:27 pm (UTC) (Link)
Casey's reaction was something to see. The picture of Adelaide with her arms around him caused his eyes to widen as he stared at it. He didn't necessarily believe what he saw but it was proof. There was a small part of him that was a little dismayed at the fact that his first kiss - whatever the strange reason for it was - was one he didn't remember. At all.

He clearly remembered that there was one kid he needed to watch out for. Casey didn't know his name and couldn't remember why, but by the series of pictures he could guess. At least by the way this kid had Casey's shirt in his hand.

The third picture he stared at the longest, squinting as if it would possibly help. He could make out Adelaide, himself, and that other guy, and he was pretty sure the blurred fourth figure was Henrike.

He let out a long breath and sat back in his chair again, handing the pictures back to Rowan. Casey almost looked like he was in a daze. "What's that guy's name?"
cabotine From: [info]cabotine Date: November 15th, 2010 12:22 am (UTC) (Link)
Rowan watched him as he looked at the pictures she had handed him, looking at his reactions to each. She didn't quite know what to expect, how much he remembered and how much was a blank for him.

She looked at him as she took the pictures back. "That's Leon Shaw. My house. He's going out with Adelaide, so far as I know..." I won't mention that I know more than that, either...
thatmachineboy From: [info]thatmachineboy Date: November 15th, 2010 03:27 am (UTC) (Link)
Her housemate's name was repeated again, although silently, so that he had a better chance of committing it to memory. Casey knew the kid on sight but it never hurt to know the name that went a long with his face.

He'd heard somewhere through the grapevine that Adelaide was dating a Leon, and it was one in the same. Then a thought struck him and he quite visibly cringed and raised a hand to his face. After a moment, Casey carefully opened an eye to look at her. "Were they dating at the time of the party?"
cabotine From: [info]cabotine Date: November 15th, 2010 03:45 am (UTC) (Link)
Wincing a little at the cringe, Rowan bit her lip again. Worse of all, she really didn't have anything reassuring to say to him, especially not in answer to his question. She looked over at him and spoke softly when she replied.

"Um... I honestly don't know. I can... find out if you want?" She couldn't exactly ask Leon, as she was probably the last person he wanted to talk to right now, but she would do anything for her friends. The expression on her face turned to one of hopeful consideration.
thatmachineboy From: [info]thatmachineboy Date: November 17th, 2010 02:19 am (UTC) (Link)
"Maybe I can ask Adelaide myself. Maybe." He let a small sigh out after the words as he thought. There was a discreet way of doing it, and without possibly alerting Leon. He wasn't sure how Rowan planned to find out but if it avoided that possibility? He'd try.

After a moment, Casey laughed a little bit and shook his head. "I don't know if this means that I should drink more, or if it means that I should never drink again."
