Ciaran walked back to Rienzi House with his hands in his pockets, his eyes fixed on the floor. He'd spent so much of his first term just walking around campus to escape the madness of the dorm that he knew his way from almost anywhere on site.
With the exception of the woods of course; he didn't go there. No point encouraging rumours and all of that.
As he headed up to the building entrance, a red smudge caught his eye. The red smudge appeared to be a girl...a rather familiar girl.
Mari?
A large and rather vocal part of him wanted to avoid talking to her altogether and go back inside, but he'd already ignored her at the party...which might have been a little unfair, considering that she invited him in the first place.
Ciaran shoved his hands in his pockets and walked up to Marianne. He waiting until she was facing him before speaking. "Hey."
Mari breathed a sigh of relief and scrambled around for her cigarette, blowing the dirt off of it and lighting it again.
"Fuck shit balls" she said eloquently. "I totally thought I was in for it then! You scared the crap out of me." She started laughing once she was recovered.
She looked Ciaran up and down and raised an eyebrow. "Lurking around in the dark, huh? No doubt doing something highly illegal. Spit it out."
Ciaran raised a brow at Mari. Well that was an...interesting reaction.
"I wasn't lurking. Just...out walking. Beats being in common room with the rest of those assholes." He was pretty certain that Jake guy was in there, playing spies with his toy gun again. Fucking prick.
"If you wanted to do that without getting caught you could just go around to the back of the builing."
"Hey!" She gave a mock gasp and tried to look offended. "Those assholes are my friends. Most of the time. Except now because they're all busy." She then scrunched up her nose in disapproval.
"Just walking? No hunting freshies or drinking the blood of cheerleaders? I expected more from you." She tutted and puffed smoke in his direction. At his suggestion she rolled her eyes and poked a finger at him.
"That's where they want you to smoke, baby. One day they're gunna spring a giant net and catch everyone. Mark my words!"
"Yeah, busy being assholes. Must be a hard life," he replied, glancing over to the main door and then back to Marianne. "Cheerleaders carry disease, like pigeons. If I had to drink someone's blood, it wouldn't be theirs."
Ciaran took a step back to avoid the smoke. "Maybe they want you to think that they want you to think that. Double bluff so that you'll smoke somewhere obvious like this, where you're easier to catch."
Mari grew wide-eyed. "Ah! But you admit you've been hunting freshies? Perhaps with a crossbow. In the woods? Well that would explain everthing." She checked behind him quickly. "Except for where your crossbow is now. You're a sneaky rabbit."
Changing the subject, Mari smirked. "So did you have a good time at Sam's party?"
Ciaran huffed through his nose. "I never admitted anything, I just didn't deny it." He smirked. "But if I had, I wouldn't use a crossbow. I'd use something I could keep with me at all times. Something I could hide easily. In case I needed to use it again."
She wasn't so bad. If it hadn't been for Emilie, Ciaran might have regretted avoiding Marianne on New Year's Eve.
Mari made a displeased noise and took another drag. "Something small? Too boring! You know what they say about boys with small weapons, right?" She grinned. "Yep, small dicks."
She laughed, she could imagine he had a good night after Emilie had gone after him and she shrugged at his question. "I woke up with this totally awesome bruise and the last thing I remember is barfing on Kaz. I think that's probably a good night, right?"
She bit her tongue as 'prove it' almost escaped from her mouth though she was secretly happy when he actually decided to sit next to her.
"I think I spent new year taking to Jake" she tried to recall, though the memories were entirely fuzzy. "Did you and Emilie make anyone cry?" She winked at him, though she didn't know how the night had ended for them two once Emilie had disappeared from the kitchen, she did have a very vivid imagination.
"Out of choice?" He made a face. How anyone could put up with James Bond's super-happy non-judgemental getting-to-know-you bull for more than half a minute without wanting to drive their fist into his face was beyond Ciaran.
But then Ciaran saw him for what he was; most people either saw the money and the blond hair.
Most people were fuckin' stupid.
"I don't think so. Why would we make someone cry?"
She gave him a shove with her shoulder and rolled her eyes. "Yes out of choice. He's sweet as pie."
Mari snorted at his next comment. As far as Emilie was concerned, she was pretty sure the senior tended to have a brighter day if someone ended up crying. "I dunno dude, she's pretty bad ass. Like, I heard once she made Professor Spencer cry. Totally legit."
"He's a dick," Ciaran spat. "He needs to grow up."
He raised a brow at her comment about Emilie. "She doesn't seem that bad to me. Just...bold." Yes, she was bold. Bold enough to steal a guy's drugs and then punch him in the face. But then he'd hardly stood by shaking his head in disapproval.
Ciaran smirked, mostly to himself. "Besides, she's hardly ever in detention. Unlike us."
"Well I like him" she said stubbornly. Jake reminded her of a kid brother or something.
"She's bad alright, she's just too smart to get caught." Mari grinned and leaned her head on the wall. "I've only had dentention for silly things, when she finally gets one it'll probably be for disembowling someone." She was only half serious.
"Dude, I am so mad I missed that fight you had. I think I was like, peeing whilst it was happening. Seriously, something interesting happens outside of my fucking window and I'm on the crapper." She leant over and tried to get a better look at his face.
Ciaran shook his head, laughing just a bit. Such a lady, wasn't she?
"My face is fine. Bridge of my nose took a hit, but I fixed it." Or rather the nurse did, but it still felt a little funny. Maybe he'd get him to look at it again.
"I wonder how hard it is to brew a love potion? One that will make him fall madly in love with me." She was only half serious, but it was something she wondered often.
She grinned and poked him a little lower. "You know, I am in prime territory to give you a major nipple twist. Surely someone as savvy as you in the art of maiming people would know that?"
"I don't think they fall in love with you, it's more like obsession."
He'd spent a good deal of time avoiding Marianne at school, but now that she wasn't throwing words a million miles a minute at his face, she was...pretty okay, apart from the nurse obsession.
Maybe it was just school that sent her a little off? After all, Mari seemed pretty chilled now.
"I do, but why would you want to?" Ciaran smirked. "Besides, your hand is going the wrong way for that."
Mari gave Ciaran a confused look before shrugging. "Obsession would be fine too, baby. I think I could totally handle a hot nurse obsessing over me."
She chucked her now smoked cigarette and turned her attention back to the older boy. Laughing she shook her head. "My hand isn't going anywhere" she said innocently and winked.
"Yeah, I think I could too...with a different nurse," he replied. Hell, they didn't even have to be a nurse as long as they wore the uniform...a very tight uniform, of course.
Ciaran looked down at her hand, then up at Marianne's face. "Maybe it should."
"Well this just isn't your lucky day because I totally dressed as a nurse for Halloween, my friend. Granted, it was a shit covered, zombified Silent Hill nurse, but who needs the details?"
Mari bit her lip thoughtfully before wrinkling her nose. Yes, it probably should, but it just seemed like a bad idea if Emilie had been...further down.
"You wish" she snorted before linking arms with Ciaran and resting her head on his shoulder. I wish she added to herself, grinning.
"Really? I wasn't here for Halloween. I guess you'll have to wear it again so that I can see you in it."
Which...he wouldn't mind at all. In his head she had more of a French Maid thing going on...but Ciaran could put up with her in a nurse's uniform. It wouldn't be the same, but it would have to do.
"Harsh." Nope, definitely not his lucky day today. What was all of that following him around and non-stop chatter and commenting all over his facebook about if she wasn't going to give it up? "I thought you liked me."
