Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Amy blushed, simultaneously cursing her pale skin and grateful that the lights were low so that the fact that her skin was probably the same color as her dress right now wasn't too obvious.

"I'm Amy." she managed to say, shaking Mal's hand. "And um, thanks. I mean, the main the reason I even came here was so that this dress didn't collect dust- didn't want to buy it for nothing."

Another heart exploded not too far away, though luckily not close enough to get glitter on her.

"Okay, whoever came up with those exploding glitter hearts has to be some crazed Twilight fan or something." she snickered.

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

She blushed, Malachi loved a girl who blushed; he didn’t see many of those on the party scene.

Her hand was small inside of his and he repeated her name, “Amy”, it was soft and feminine, like her, and it made him smile. “That dress should never collect dust”, he exclaimed, offering her a cup from the table, “Punch?” He canted his head as he looked this Amy over. How could this girl have only come down to trot out a dress she wanted to show off? Certainly there had to be tons of guys interested.

“Hahaha”, Mal chuckled at Amy’s remark about the exploding hearts, “Team Edward, I’m betting. Team Jacob fans would never promote all that glitter…werewolves and glitter just don’t mix.”

Malachi wondered if she came down here in that dress hoping to see anyone special, because he sure would like to dance with her. “So, Amy, looking for anyone I might know? I’ve been here a few minutes. Maybe I saw them go by.”

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

"Thanks." Amy nodded, accepting the cup and grinning at the Twilight joke before taking a sip. She was a little puzzled by the question of whether she was looking for anyone- she wondered what gave Mal that impression. Did she seem like she was looking for someone? She hadn't been scanning the dance floor since she made it to the refreshment table or anything. Oh, well.

"Nah." she answered casually. With a little smile, she added "Unless you count looking for people getting annoyed when the glitter hearts explode directly on them- it's pretty funny."

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Malachi was glad that Amy wasn’t looking for anyone down here; it meant that her time was free and he could take a shot at filling it up. Finishing up his punch, Mal tossed the cup in the trash can and straightened his black tie.

As if by design, the band started playing “You are so beautiful”, a song made popular by Joe Cocker. He had to admit they were doing a good job of covering the top love songs from the past four or five decades.

Clearing his throat, Mal looked down at his lovely companion and asked, “Amy, would you like to dance?” He held his hand out for her to take.

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

"Sure!" Amy said brightly, throwing her cup out and taking Mal's hand, following him out onto the dance floor. She was glad it was a slow song- she wasn't exactly amongst the best of dancers, and well, she wasn't about to complain about slow dancing with a guy like that. And if a heart exploded and shot glitter on them? It wasn't the end of the world- it'd come off. Eventually.

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Malachi had to smile at the bright, cheery way Amy agreed to dance with him; he folded her smaller hand in his own and proudly led her onto the dance floor. He stopped his prideful strut near the middle of the dance floor and turned to his beautiful companion, placing his arms around her waist. A small sigh escaped his lips; he hoped she didn’t notice.

Amy felt good in his arms, as he looked down into her soft, gray eyes. Mal held her as close as he could and still be appropriate for a first dance; they turned slowly to the old song and, luckily, Mal had a pretty good sense of rhythm, so they were on the beat. “Why haven’t I seen you around before?”, he asked, “I know I would remember you. You’re not a senior, I’m guessing.” He shrugged his shoulders, “No big deal.”

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Amy couldn't stop the Cheshire Cat grin from spreading on her face as she rested her hands on Malachi's shoulders. She just hoped she didn't step on his feet or anything. Not that it was exceptionally likely- she wasn't super-coordinated or anything, but a simple slow dance wasn't exactly rocket science.

"Junior." she answered. "I take it you're a senior, then? And not in Sonnier, because then I'm pretty sure I'd know you?"

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

The music moved through Malachi and his skin tingled through the material of his shirt where Amy’s small hands rested on his broad shoulders. He could feel his chest beginning to rise and fall just a bit heavier than normal and he hoped she didn’t take too much notice of it, because it was all because of her. Looking from side to side, trying to spot any buzzkill chaperones, Mal saw none and so, inched their bodies just a tiny bit closer.

Malachi grinned when he found out Amy was a junior; it was pretty cool actually, “Junior, huh? Nice, and a Sonnier? So, you’re not only beautiful, you’re smart too!” Mal winked at her and smiled, “Ya got me! Guilty as charged. I’m a senior...from Beauregard House.” Leaning in close, his warm breath brushing against her ear, he whispered, “I hope you don’t have any rules about fraternizing with seniors.”

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Amy's blush returned when Mal called her beautiful and smart- she was quite used to the latter, not as much to the former- it just didn't count when your grandmother said it. Her breath hitched as he whispered in her ear. It did things to her, and she was feeling very flustered as a result.

"Nope. None. None at all." she stammered. "That is not a problem."

Jesus tap-dancing Christ on a cracker, stop being such a dork, she thought to herself.

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

The way Amy stammered out her reply to him was adorable; as a matter of fact, everything about Amy was adorable. Malachi was suddenly glad that he’d tied on a tie and come down to the Valentine’s dance. Looking down at the beautiful redhead, he smiled and blurted out, “I’m having fun, y’know…and I wasn’t sure I would…at the dance.”

This was so nice; Mal didn’t want the dance to end. The sweet, beautiful girl in the beautiful dress, the shy blushing, the little looks they were giving each other, the feeling of her hands on his body…the innocence of restraint. A boy like him rarely got such a treat; he’d been strapped with a bad reputation and labeled a ‘bad boy’, so he got the party girls…the ones who pulled at your shirt and stuck their tongue in your mouth when you walked in the door. Nobody knew that Malachi wanted the wife, kids and the house with a white picket fence; nobody cared.

Tonight, Malachi could dream that Amy was his girl and they were going to live happily ever after. Of course, he couldn’t say anything like that, he had to act cool. Leaning his forehead against hers, Mal purred, “Maybe after this, I can get them to play Lady in Red. Would you dance with me again?”

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

"Yeah." she answered. She had to suppress a giggle at the cheesiness of Mal's song choice, most likely brought on by her own red dress, therefore making it even cheesier, but in a cute kind of way. And in a way, it kind of made him seem more approachable, as did his comment that he'd been unsure about the dance. She herself had thought earlier that tonight might be a waste of her time. For once she was glad to be proven wrong. The awkwardness that was her experience at the New Year's Eve party should have kept her away from this, but for once, she was glad she'd forced herself to go to a school-sanctioned social event.

Just then, another glitter-filled heart exploded right above them, spilling glitter all over them.

"I look like a sparkly vampire now, don't I?" she grinned.

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Malachi grinned when Amy said she’d dance with him again; he knew he was being a big dork, but he didn’t care. He didn’t feel like he had to guard his rep so much with this girl. She didn’t seem to be waiting for an opening to embarrass him or smack him down. Party chicks were either being super needy or being hard as nails and wanting to put you down somehow…looking for a chink in your armor to take advantage of, so they could use it to save face for being who they were. Yeah, this really was nice and he’d better enjoy it. Amy would tell her friends who she danced with and someone would have heard all the rumors and truths about him.

“WHOA!”, he exclaimed and then laughed as he and Amy were covered in pink, red and white glitter from an exploding heart just above them, “We’ve taken a direct hit!”

Mal’s smile was wide enough to bring out his dimples, “A sparkly vampire?”, he repeated, “If you’re a vampire, you can bite me whenever you want to!”, he exclaimed.

Just then the song ended and Mal held his finger up, “Wait here one minute!” He ran off towards the band, tall, lanky and covered in glitter. When he returned, he asked Amy, “Want to grab a table? They said they would play Lady in Red after the next song.”

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Amy could feel her face grow hot again at Mal's joke about biting, dusting as much glitter as she could off of herself as he went over to the band. She was pretty sure that it'd take at least three showers to wash all of the glitter off.

She was still dusting herself off when he came back, nodding in reply. "Yeah, might be a good idea to take a break to get all of this glitter off, if that's even possible."

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Seeing Amy blush again only made Mal like her more and he could feel a warm feeling spreading through his chest, making it a little hard to breathe; not impossible, just making it feel like the temperature had risen in the room to about 102 degrees. Strangely enough, Mal felt like this feeling was pleasant.

Walking over to an empty table, Mal watched as Amy tried getting the millions of tiny pieces of glitter off herself. Tentatively he reached out with his hand and combed his fingers through her hair, sending a shower of glitter to the floor, “Ummm, mind a little help?”, he asked, his reddish-brown eyes catching the light from the mirrored-disco ball.

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

"Yeah, I mean, go right ahead." Amy said with a little smile, dusting some more glitter off of her left arm. "I mean, it's probably never going to come off, but it's worth a try."

She probably would have given up after a few more swipes, but when a hot guy was offering to help, she wasn't going to complain, so long as he didn't get overly handsy and try to dust her cleavage off or something.

"It's kind of looks like sparkly dandruff." she went on, examining the glitter on her hand.

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Smiling, once Amy had given him the go-ahead, Mal moved around behind her and used both hands to comb through her hair, slowly massaging the glitter out. Once he had satisfied himself that he’d cleared her hair of as much glitter as possible, he moved to her bare shoulders, where some of the glitter had deposited, and brushed them off (a bit slower than necessary, he had to admit).

Looking lower to her breasts, where the red dress crossed over them, he blushed; Amy wasn’t that kind of girl, so he immediately erased any idea of his hands moving in that direction. Gingerly, he brushed glitter from the back of her skirt, being careful not to touch her very shapely posterior. “Ummm, I think you’re good now, Amy…”, he came around beside her and smiled, pulling a chair out for her to sit in.

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

"Thanks." Amy said, sitting down in the chair, looking very flushed, but unable to wipe a smile off of her face. The feel of Mal's hands against her skin had gotten her kind of hot. She wasn't used to much physical contact with boys, so even a little felt like a lot.

"So..." she said, not knowing really what to say, but wanting to avoid awkward silences. She tried to remember some article she'd once read about questions to ask when getting to know someone, but most of them were dumb...

"Pirates or ninjas, and why?"

Re: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Mal smiled when Amy took her seat, once again thinking how pretty she looked and how ladylike she was even in the way she took her seat. He was definitely attracted to her and, by the way she was acting, he thought she might be attracted to him too. That would be fantastic. If things continued to go this well, he would ask her out on a proper date. The thought of it made his heart race.

Before taking his own seat, he walked to the snack table and returned with two glasses of punch and a plate of cookies, a selection of every sort. “Here we go, sweets for the sweet!”, he announced with a dimpled smile. After seating himself, he chuckled and smacked his forehead, “Oh man, I can’t believe I said that! Promise you won’t tell anyone. Not that you’re not the sweetest, Amy, but that was corny and I never say stuff like that.”

Phew! Cool, a question to save me. “Hmmm! Ninjas, definitely! Pirates smell and have bad teeth and dress really funky. Ninjas are cool and deadly…”, he narrowed his eyes and held his hands as if he were going to use them for martial arts, “…silent death!”
