"Let's just say that if your hands ever slip and catch me somewhere they shouldn't, don't bother saying sorry." He grinned at Leon; of course he wasn't going to get a feel up from that, but he had to make the other boy aware that this worked both ways.

"Because you're not happy with yourself. Personally, I couldn't even imagine not being happy with myself. What's the point of living if you feel like that? I think I'd throw myself off the owlery."

But then they were talking about the dark arts, and self esteem (or the lack of) was no longer important.

So Leon knew a few curses, hmm?

"I'd be...curious as to what you knew, and whether you'd be interested in sharing your knowledge with someone else," Avery purred. "Just for educational purposes, of course."

"Yeah, yeah." He looked away, rubbing the back of his neck. "Look, you're the first bloke I ever snogged, so if you could please not rush off to finish line...or something. Aaaah, bah, screw this."

He flopped back on the grass and closed his eyes as he listened to Avery go on. Bloody boy never shut up, did he? "Oh yeah? Well you think I have thought of it? Thanks for pointing out the fucking most obvious problem with the whole thing. Pardon me now while I go top myself. What do you think? Spell, poison or jumping? I just can't decide which is better!"

Ug. He didn't think the sarcasm really masked the truth in that part of the conversation, but he hoped Avery was too dense to catch on. The last thing he needed was to be under constant supervision. He wasn't at all sure how people thought that sort of thing would make you less likely to kill yourself.

"You're serious?" He asked, though, as the conversation turned back to the dark arts. "You want to learn about hexes and curses for 'educational' purposes? What sort of an idiot do you take me for again?"

"That wasn't a snog," he scoffed. "But...we could always do that next time, if you want to just...head in the direction of the finish line. No rushing, I promise."
Promising such a thing was an instant regret; he didn't have this much time. After all, he'd been seeing Adelaide for months and they hadn't even done anything - which was understandable - but still, what if Leon wanted to take things too slowly? This had to be out by summer or else he'd have failed Ginger in her plans. What kind of friend would Avery be if he allowed that to happen?

"Well all of this is your fault anyway. If you feel so bad and you aren't prepared to do anything about it then maybe you should top yourself! Fix the problem or stop complaining about it."

Avery brushed his thumb against Leon's wrist and sighed. "Taking anymore than an academic interest suggests that I have other motives for learning about dark magic. I wouldn't want to end up with that kind of reputation," he replied carefully.

"Oh yeah, I'll send you a text. 'Come suck my knob'." Leon rolled his eyes a bit. He wasn't even sure how one went about that sort of thing anyway. Granted, he was well aware there were many more steps involved it just..It was ridiculous. Completely.

"Fuck you," he snapped though, "how the hell is it my fault?" He wasn't going to give Avery a list of the crap he did to keep himself happy, that was for sure. "I do things about it, it doesn't just magically change though. Sort of a problem you're stuck with."

For better or worse, as it were.

"Why should I believe you only have an academic interest? You have a book on dark witches and wizards." He paused though, mulling over things in his head. One of his fingers brushed up and down Avery's though, as he thought things through. It wasn't as if Avery could really get him in trouble, was it? After all...He had used that spell, and no one had said a thing to him. "There is this one, I used it on that bat-thing when it attacked me. Was pretty nasty, really. Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it someday."

"I suppose you'll want my number then, just in case you ever get the urge for it." Which in turn meant that he would need to have Leon's number, of course. Instant access; Avery would be able to get into his head whenever he felt like it then...

"If you're doing things about it and it isn't going away then you aren't doing enough. That makes it your fault for not bothering to put enough effort in."

All of this sitting in his closet and pretending to be straight probably didn't help either, but Avery decided to leave that out. It would only lead to talk about Adelaide, and how was he ever going to get Leon on his knees if he was feeling guilty about hurting some idiotic, masculine girl?

"It's just a reference guide, a lot of people have them. Besides, I never said I wanted you to believe that my interest was strictly academic..." He met Leon's gaze for a minute. It was risky, acknowledging his interest in such a taboo subject, but he still had the kiss; he could hold that over Leon if needs be. Not that Avery thought he needed it right now, but it was nice to have a little insurance.

"What does the spell do?" Avery asked quietly, inching nearer. "And how did the Darkmantle react?"

"Whatever," he rolled to his side, and pulled his phone out of his back pocket. "Don't go thinking this shit means anything though. Its just a number, for when....we want to shag, or snog, or whatever." Nothing gay. Right?

He all but threw his phone at Avery, though, scowling at the remarks about not putting enough effort into things. Like he'd know anything about it, as self-absorbed as Avery was.

"You're coy act is annoying, you want to know so bad what it is like that your practically bursting." He paused then, before shrugging. So what if the other boy wanted to know, it wasn't like either of them could afford to run off telling anyone. "I used Temero. It is supposed to cause this deep bruises and open wounds. Rather painful, I guess, given the way the thing screamed when I hit it. It could barely fly, wasn't so hard to catch it then."
