Cthulu Rises
Out of the temple doors in the bay comes an ancient evil creature. It is Cthulu himself. He roars loudly then snatches up several cultists and eats them. The frightened screams of the others fill the air. His gaze turns to the shore and then he begins to walk.

His march towards the shore begins and he doesn't notice anything else just yet.

She can feel panic, desperation outside, the unspoken thought 'He's past us, almost to shore.' before Ty forces his own panic down, summons all the power he can to buy a few more instants, bending the seconds to translate for her.

//Stay calm - you're almost done - ch'ftagn - Cross over to sleep. - ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn - Dead, yet dreaming, Cthulhu waits in his palace in R'lyeh.//

As he speaks, the Earth rises to her throat, trying to choke the words out of her before she can get them to Din. After this, if they can get through it, there's only three words left, but it seems so far away, hopeless. A cloud of despair, urging them to give in, quit, simply die in peace tries to settle in their minds as the Earth tries to swallow the princess of Atlantis, and the sea threatens to boil Din alive.

He's forgotten what he's doing and why, he's just saying the words because something deep in his brain remembers that they need to be said. He hurts, but it doesn't matter. The temple begins to shake, threatening to come apart at the seams. The spawn howl, shouting ancient curses.

The book seeks to flood Cait's mind with her failures, causing her to relive the two times now she has given into her rage. It immerses her in those illusions, making her relive them, forget the moments before, forget herself, forget where she was - she's failed twice, surely she can fail one more time, right?

The sea cools, but its inches from the ceiling, forcing Din to crane his neck and struggle just to take in gasps of the thick, smoky air that tastes of death.

From far away, Cait can hear a faint memory of words.

//ilyaa'ilyaa Cthulhu'ftagn - Await, Await, Cthulhu sleeps. - zhro'uaaah - When he says it, it will close the spell.//

	She would not give in. She would not fail again. She was a princess of Atlantis. She was her father's daughter. She could be as stubborn as her father. The blood of a line of strong kings and queens flowed through her veins. She called on strength from the deepest reserves. She pulled at the water around Din. He had to give him a few more moments. The doors slam open outward, and an unearthly howl that will haunt the dreams of all who heard it for years to come fills the air.
The water drains back into the sea, the fires snuff out, and the spawn begin filing in, not to attack, but to return to hidden chambers about the temple as formerly unseen doors open to contain them.

//Love, you did it! But you need to get the book back into that room, or it... and the spell, will be lost next time... hurry, and don't forget the words... the temple will begin to sink... if you don't hurry, you'll be drawn back to R'lyeh with him.//

Needless to say, that would be bad. As they file past, seeming not to see the heroes, the spawn and less describeable things all chant as one.

"Ilyaa'ilyaa Cthulhu'ftagn, ilyaa'ilyaa Cthulhu'ftagn."

	Dinadan collapses to his hands and knees when the water drains out from under him, coughing hard. He scrambles to his feet when Cait shouts for him and grabs her arm, running for the door to the room that the book belongs in. "c'tthnk ch'ftaghu!" he snaps, barely even slowing down. They once again enter the dreamstate, the book with them, as Din speaks the words. The book tries one more time, promising Cait anything, power, control, peace, love... if she'll just not put it back in that place.

Behind them, they can see their bodies standing motionless, with spawn all around them, should even one stop moving, notice their helpless bodies there...

	Cait placed the book on the altar. She didn't desire power or control. She would have stayed in Atlantis if she wanted those things. Peace would eventually come. Love. She had that. She had the love of her parents and Ty. "Let's go," she said to Din as she turned. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

They leave the book behind. The hideous monstrosity's so fill the room beyond that for a moment, they lose sight of their bodies, but find them just in time to dive back into them.

The room has begun its return to chaos, their minds struggling to keep it in some kind of recognizeable shape lest the mortals go insane. Should they be too slow, by even an instant, they will be drawn into chaos and madness, to dwell in R'lyeh forever.

Seeming forever away, the light from the door grows dimmer and dimmer, and water comes rushing into the temple, coming right at them, threatening to slow them down even more as the temple begins to sink again.

	Dinadan's glad that Jane and Batman stayed near the door, because they'll get out, even if he doesn't. Someone can tell his parents what happened to him if he doesn't make it out. 	Cait saw the water rushing in and she knew what she had to do. Somehow she had to find the strength to do this. She took a deep breath and pushed outward with her power. 	Dinadan stumbles as he passes her, but follows her instructions, racing up the channel she's made toward the dimming doorway. His shoulder slams into the frame as he tumbles through, and he hangs on desperately as he screams for her to follow. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

As Din passes the threashhold, his seal flashes again, and the doors begin to close behind him, less and less light coming into the room as it descends further and further into absolute madness, her mind threatening to rebel as it struggles to make some sense of the voices, the words, the movement, nothing makes sense, and the doors grind nearly shut, the barest sliver of the world beyond, and barest whisper of Din's voice reaching her.

	//Help me// she sent as a last ditch effort. She prayed to all the gods of the ocean that Ty was there and would hear her. He hadn't been there the last time she had called out for him to get her out of where she had been. Cait fell to her knees and the water crashed over her as she released her hold on her powers. Its a terrible struggle. He has to bend the seconds as far as he can, stretch out with all his psychic power just to find a glimmer of her. He fights with raw chaos, refusing to accept her loss, and for a second, he's sure he's lost her, and then...

Had you told Ty a few weeks ago, before all of this started, he might believe a lot of things. None of them would be that he'd find himself with two girls clinging to him desperately. Which is the situation he currently finds himself in, floating over the ruined, lifeless San Francisco Bay, clutching Cait in one arm, a magess with her arms around him as well, while the city stands at the edge of ruin in the distance.

As the temple disappears from the world, most of the Earth, mercifully, is allowed to forget, remembering all of the past days as a bad nightmare, and one they mostly can't even recall. Others will remember it as vivid dreams, bits and pieces clear in their mind, but most of the actual events gone. Others, more tragically, will never forget, minds gone to madness trying to comprehend the incomprehensible. Sadly, many of these will be from this very city, those who looked upon Great Cthulhu in his moments so close to awakening. But for the moment, the disaster is over.

	There's a brief moment of feeling safe before the blackness closed in. Cait is unconscious in Ty's arm and her skin is hot to the touch. An infection from the wound on her back raged through her system. She's paler than normal and there are dark circles under her closed eyes. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Hold on." he says, though its hard to tell whether he's talking to Alina, unsure how taxed her powers are, or urging Cait. He begins to move towards the badly damaged Titans Tower, bending the seconds to give Cait more time, slowing the poison while he tries to work out the spell to heal her injury, violet flame licking at the wound, leaving her flesh unharmed, but starting to burn the poison out.

	Alina's just relieved that the other girl is here on purpose and not as the result of her spell. But mostly relieved that this whole thing is over, and in their favor.
