The Big Finale
The city of Star City looked deserted. The citizens had either fled or had been turned into black lanterns. At the heart of the city was the entity known as Nekron. Nekron used the city as his base as his black lanterns ravaged the Earth.

The black lanterns increased their numbers each day and the power levels of the black lantern battery increased with each person that died.

Soon Nekron would have enough power to obliterate all life on this planet.

Warhawk steps away from the group, staring at the green ring on his finger. For twelve years, Rex Stewart has dreamed of a moment like this one, a moment where he'll learn the answer to the greatest--no, the only-- true mystery of his life.

For the first time since the ring came to him, a small finger of fear creeps into his heart. What if he doesn't get the answer he's looking for? Will he be able to live with it?

He stares at the ring again for what seems like eternity, before making his decision.

He has to know.

"Ring. Locate Green Lantern John Stewart." Rex commands.


"Searching..." the ring says.

Rex doesn't realize he's holding his breath. Each second feels like a year as he waits.

"Search, inconclusive. Last known whereabouts: Section 1855."

"When was this?" Rex asks, unable to believe his ears.

"Accessing....inconclusive. Time frame, two to six months ago. Unable to lock onto life-signature at this distance. Files are being compromised from outside source. No further data can be given. Rex Stewart, you are hereby removed from the Green Lantern Corps." the ring says.

And then it flies off, into the night.

"He's alive." Rex whispers, unable to believe it.

Hope rarely uses the Mother Box to allow herself to fly, but she does so now, taking off after Rex after he suddenly leaves.

"Rex...are you alright?"

Rex barely registers Hope's voice as he stares off after the ring. A weight has lifted from his shoulders, but now a new purpose crystallizes in Rex's mind.

"Goddess...he's out there. My dad is out there somewhere. He's alive." Rex says, turning to face her. For the first time in a long time, Rex's steely resolve is replaced by true joy, and smiles at Hope.

"He's out there and someone's seen him. Someone knows where he is."

Hope smiled at him widely. She knew how much his father meant to him. "That's wonderful, Rex. Do you know where he is? Are you going to try and find him?"

"The last place they know of is Sector 1855. I don't even know where that is or what's there." Rex says.

Her second question catches him off guard. If he was there and in trouble, wouldn't the Green Lanterns have sent someone by now? Why hadn't they?

Unless he was somewhere they couldn't get to him.

"He would never abandon me. He'd have sent someone to tell me if something was up. Mr. Jordan, Mr. Gardner and Mr. Rayner all told me there were no updates each time I asked.

I think he's in trouble. It's the only reason he wouldn't have come back." Rex says.

"Goddess, I don't even know where to start looking and I can't drag you all over the universe chasing down leads. Besides, it could be dangerous and we /just/ survived Night of the Living Dead.

And I really wanted to drink a truck full of beer, have a few burgers and...worship a Goddess." he smiles.

"You don't have a choice in the matter," she said. "If you're going to go all over the universe chasing down leads, then I am going with you. Besides...you should know that there isn't much I can't handle."

She smiled at him. "But right now...beer, burgers, and worshiping sounds like a good idea."
