In case of baby...panic!

Cerdian walked up the stairs to Lian's apartment with the box of chocolate, running through a breathing exercise in his head. Today, he would tell Lian that he loved her and apologize for treating her so poorly. He would find out if she had it in her heart to forgive him and then the would figure out what that meant in regard to her life now. He would tell her that he wasn't marrying anyone and that he only wanted to be with her.

Upon arriving at Lian's door, Cerdian knocks three times and waits for her to answer.

Suddenly, he realizes he forgot the flowers.

Lian had been feeling lousy all day. Between getting kicked to death, her entire body ached and she hadn't gotten a wink of sleep in the previous night.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm coming," she said, rolling her eyes. Between her father and Tim, she was getting really sick of people showing up to "check on her". She wasn't a baby, and she was perfectly capable of handling herself.

She heaved a sigh when she looked through the peephole and saw Cerdian on the other side. She opened the door, stone faced.

"I'm fine, I'm dying and now that that's out of the way, you can go back to doing whatever it was you were doing. I'm sure you had better things to do, anyway."

	Cerdian blinks at Lian's cold greeting. It leaves him speechless for a moment. When he finds his tongue, he can't help himself. "Gee, we've already gone from 'I love you' to 'Leave Me Alone.' I thought humans had to have a relationship to have divorce, but not us, right, Lian?" Cerdian asks. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Cerdian couldn't believe his ears. He'd only wanted to be selfless by not telling her he loved her and now she was using it against him. Had he wounded her /that/ deeply.

"Well, I was fighting for my life in Atlantis, in case you missed the news reports. But then, you don't care about that sort of thing. I already died defending you, so I have no further purpose in your life anymore.

Did I interrupt your ninth reunion with Damien this time, hmm? Or is this number ten? Is that why you want me gone so badly?" Cerdian asks, going to look around the apartment.

"You said it, not me." Cerdian fires back.

"I don't report to Tim or anyone else. I actually came here to...no, forget why I came. It doesn't matter. I'm not coming back so do what you want, Lian.

You've made a talent of pushing people away, Lian. Someday soon, you'll get what you always wanted; you'll be alone." Cerdian says, turning to leave the apartment, tossing the heart shaped box of candy in the trash on his way to the door.

He was a fool to believe that Lian might be in love with him. Maybe it was time to allow Father to marry him off to some woman who might respect him.

It would be better than this.

	"I told you how I felt, Cerdian," Lian said. "You're the one that made it pretty clear that you didn't feel the same way, and that you wanted nothing to do with me. Forgive me for not welcoming you with open arms." Lian felt a rush of pain as he turned to leave, and she gasped loudly. No. No, it was too soon...she still had a few weeks left. 	And now, Cerdian loses his temper, whirling to face Lian. "I didn't say I didn't love you! What part of that don't you get, Lian! All I have /ever/ wanted is /you/! Cerdian's eyes widen again.

"By Dis. All right, you must breathe, Lian. Do not panic. We need to get you to lie down. I will call your father and your family and have them come here." Cerdian says.

"I will also contact the Outsiders." he tells her, though he is still staring at her because he's not sure if human childbirthing is like Atlantean childbirthing.

She looks like she's in a lot pain.

This was /not/ covered in his studies.

Cerdian swears under his breath in Atlantean.

"Very well. You will need to trust me, Lian." he says, moving close to her and wrapping his arm around her. He reaches out with his power and teleports the two of them to Star City General Hospital.

"Help! I need a doctor! This woman is going into labor!" Cerdian yells in the lobby.

He hopes this works like it does on television.

	Cerdian didn't think Lian would /want/ him here, but he won't argue. He'll hold her hand and nod affirmatively. "I won't leave you, Darts. Not until you tell me to go." he says, looking to the doctor. "I'm not the father of her children, but I'm staying with her. Will that be an issue?" Cerdian asks. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"All right, let's get you into a room and get you ready. Sir, if she says you're all right, we won't make an issue of it." the doctor says.

Over the next few minutes, Lian is wheeled into a room and helped into a bed, at which point the staff moves with professionalism and expediency, doing whatever they can to make her comfortable. Later, Cerdian would comment that it was almost as if they'd been expecting Lian to come in that day.

Fifteen minutes later, all is ready.

"All right, Lian. Go ahead and push for us." Doctor Hanson says.

	Lian pushed, screaming. She couldn't remember the last time she'd been in so much pain. She wanted it to be over. She wanted it all to stop and she couldn't stop it. She squeezed Cerdian's hand as hard as she could. "It hurts...it hurts so bad..." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Lian, you can do this." Cerdian says. "You're the strongest woman I know and there is nothing you can't do when you put your mind to it. Your children have been waiting to meet you. I'm sure they'd love to see their mother. They love her." Cerdian tells Lian, leaning in closer to her.

The last hour didn't matter. All the hurtful things she'd said to him meant nothing right now. All he hoped for was that Lian would give birth safely and that the twins would be whole.

"They love her their mother the same way I love her. The way I always have." Cerdian whispers, letting her squeeze his hand.

"Yes, Lian, I do. I always have. I came by to tell you today and then we started fighting and...I've made mistakes. I've screwed up badly. But when I came back to life, the only person I wanted to be with was you." Cerdian tells her.

"I was afraid, though. I still am. I'm afraid I won't be enough for you in the end. I'm not...him. Or anyone else you've ever been with. I've never dated.

But I do love you and I want to be with you, if you'll forgive me." Cerdian says.
