Moving in on a kill
Jane was making sure the body armor she was going to wear wouldn't be too noticeable. Then she rolled her eyes wondering why she was being so paranoid. Jake wasn't going to hurt her. But it was still smart to worry about the other guys.

So she made sure that she was in black from head to toe more or less. Nothing reflective. Soft soled shoes so nothing would clatter and an extra gun strapped to the small of her back. She didn't think he would stop her from using it. She didn't intend on killing anyone tonight but it was probably going to happen.

She wasn't going to lie to herself about this. Tonight was going to be dangerous. Hopefully nothing added to it. With that in mind she set out for the building. She took care with everything she did. No one should know about her getting there aside from her partner for the night. So all she had to do was wait for him to show up and she would be ready to move in.

He nods. Her views are the same most others.

He will try to reign himself in.

"Very well. You already know that there are are armed guards. I took out two on the way here, but there may be more inside." he says, taking a look at the building.

"What time does the auction start? If we can, it may be best to simply steal the mask and get out again before anyone notices." he says.

She didn't expect to meet anyone with a vastly different view point. Most people really weren't okay with killing in her experience.

She checks her watch. It is just shortly after nine. "The auction itself starts at eleven. And really, it would be much easier like you said just to seal the damn thing."

"All right. Then the first thing we need to do is minimize our visibility." he says, pointing at security cameras on the left and right side of the building.

"We won't make it to the door without being seen, the way those cameras are set up. What floor is the auction on?" he asks as he draws the hand crossbow and fires one shot at each camera.

There is the light sound of cracking glass as both go out. Thirty seconds go by, then the back door opens. Two men in black suits emerge into the night, each brandishing a handgun and looking about the darkened area.

"Second floor. It's in the western auditorium," Jane informs him. She thinks they have a good chance of getting in.

She has her gun out. At times like these she wishes she had some kind of silencer but that was almost playing dirty. She didn't want to draw too much attention to them either.

Ah, there was no way around it. A shot to the leg would take out of the game. So she takes the shot.

Jane fires her weapon, clipping the foremost man in his right leg. The leg buckles and he yelps, falling to the ground.

The second man turns in the direction of Jane's shot, trying to line up a bead on her, and ends up with a crossbow bolt through his gun hand for this troubles.

"Let's go." Jake says, quickly moving forward. He gets the man his arrow took down, kicks the gun away, and punches him in the face. His resistance ends there, and Jake disregards the man further.

"Nice shot." he says with appreciation as he rifles through his guard's pockets. A wad of cash is taken, as are keys and an ID card.

When Jane is ready, Jake will open the back door to the building for her.

"Ladies first." he says.

Personally she would have left the cash. The poor bastard might need it if he survives the night. She nearly whistled at the shot that Jake made but chose not to since they didn't have time for stroking egos.

She made sure the guy she shot was down and out for the count and swiped his ID card. They might need both.

"Thanks," she says simply going in ahead of him. Her gun is slightly raised and she is watching for any other guards on her way in.

The hallway is poorly lit, and the lights flicker as if they're being toyed with by an overactive child. The hall goes on for about thirty feet, and Jane can see that it becomes a T-section at it's ending, allowing one to go left or right.

Jake watches behind them to make sure they aren't being pursued from the rear, but stops as voices become audible from up ahead, and the left side of the juncture.

"Bernie, go find Max and Milo and tell them to get back here. The rest of these viewers need to stay in this room while Mr. Kestrel views the merchandise. Boss thinks the Yakuza are going to try to stiff him because he's white.

I'm gonna make sure there's no trouble." the voice says. Jane will then hear footsteps coming in her direction.

Jake will follow her lead.

And this is being run by a criminal organization? With a shady connection to a multimillion (possibly billion she doesn't follow stuff like that) dollar company? She still feels like she is missing the big picture.

Jane looks or any way to avoid being seen. There are no doorways or any places to duck into. Just their luck.

She frowns then gets ready to take a shot to knock down the guy who should be rounding the corner any second.

The hall is narrow and there aren't any doors or other cover to duck into. They're exposed unless they can take control of the situation.

The man, Bernie, comes around the corner and sees Jane. He's six feet tall, but he's slim and much older. He might even been someone's grandfather.

He's utterly surprised for a second, but then reaches into his coat, fumbling for his gun.

Jane will feel guilty latter.

She just gives him a 'sorry Gramps' look before shooting him towards the shoulder of the arm that is fumbling for the gun. It will hurt him like hell. Hopefully it will miss his lungs but he will be on the ground and not a threat.

Jake watches Jane pull her gun and shoot the man. She gets hits him in the shoulder. Slade would've called the shot a failure, but for now, the shot did it's job.

Bernie crumples from the shot and falls to the ground, dropping his gun and writing in pain. He looks up at Jane, then Jake, and groans, taking several wincing breaths.

"Gonna...kill you...you little bitch." he says.

Just then, Jane and Jake hear muffled shouting, gunfire, and then...nothing.

Jake raises an eyebrow. "That isn't encouraging. We need to go." he says.

That's the difference between Robert Smith and Deathstroke when it comes to passing on knowledge and skill sets.

"Not tonight," she says in a very blank tone of voice. She takes his gun from him and has it in her belt in a moment.

"Looks like someone is trying to beat us to the party," Jane says with more feeling than just a second before. She starts moving in the direction of the gun fire.

Jake grins a little.

"Hey, they can't do that. I haven't even shown off my date yet!" he says with mock indignation, following her.

The gunfire came from the direction of the left corridor, and they see a door directly in front of them, and that the corridor turns right. There's a flash of gunfire from down that way, Jake keeps up with Jane as they head toward it.

The two of them turn the corner and walk into a bloodbath.

There are bodies throughout the corridor, all of them in the charcoal suits. Some are Japanese, others are American. All of them are dead. The smell of blood is everywhere, and the trail leads to an open door at the end of the hallway, where a loud conversation can be heard from.

"Filthy gaijin! You have dishonored the terms of our agreement! Your employer has stolen the mask, honorless dog!" someone yells in English, a Japanese accent coloring their words.

"Everybody be cool!" replies the same male voice that they heard talking to Bernie. "We don't have your mask, but you shot at Mister Kestrel, and that isn't going to work."

"LIARS! Give us the mask or die!" the voice yells again. There is the sound of safeties being disengaged.

Jake tosses aside his crossbow and bulls his longbow, knocking an arrow as he moves forward.

She almost laughs. Good looks, awesome fighting skills, and a sense of humor. Too bad she has a hard time fully trusting anyone right away but so far he has been perfect to work with.

'Be cool' she mouths with a quirk of her lips. It is like something out of Pulp Fiction by the sounds of it.

Her eyes go wide for a moment. Shit. "I guess we really are too late. Let's see if we can get any intel though."

She takes the lead again with her gun drawn and ready.

"Look, why don't we agree to an amicable parting of the ways?" a new voice says in a British accent.

"The mask is gone. Rather than let you face a loss of honor, I'm willing to pay for it, and even give you a bonus in the deal." the voice says.

"No! The worth of the mask is more than the fortune of the man you work for, Mr. Kestrel. You cannot buy our honor with your blood money." the Japanese man snarls.

"Tekiya. I find this funny, coming from you of all people. Are you sure you don't want to deal? Before you know it, your Phantom Archer will be at your heels, if he isn't already here. I'm really doing you a favor by taking this thing off your hands." Kestrel says.

Then he raises his voice.

"Would you two like to come in and join us? Eavesdropping is impolite, at the best." Kestrel calls out.

Damn, that totally blew their chances at having a decent cover.

Oh well she mentally shrugged there was nothing she could do. But she thought it looked like Jake had been playing the Yakuza like a violin.

"Since you asked so nicely, sure why not," Jane calls before stepping out into the room. She keeps her expression calm. Hell she feels pretty calm despite the danger.

Jake snorts and walks into the room behind Jane. He takes a look at the Yakuza near the door, and the glass cases with many of the priceless museum exhibits from across the country that Jane has been tracking. His eyes slide about the room, until his eyes finally settle on Kestrel.

Jake doesn't know who this man is, but right now, Kestrel has something in common with Jane and Jake: they've all pissed off the Yakuza and lived to tell about it, so far.

Jake keeps the arrow knocked, but does not aim.

Donald Kestrel gives Jane the once over, noting that the smaller woman looks good in black. He smirks at Jake.

"You know, I hate archers. We have a problem with those types in Star City. Like cockroaches, those are. But how about this, Tekiya: I give you the money for the mask, and this Black Arrow here...and we call it even.

I'll even take the blond off your hands as a bonus." he says.

Tekiya glares at Kestrel, then at Jane and, finally, Jake.

"No, Kestrel. No deals. No alliances." Tekiya says.

"Pity." Kestrel says, and sighs, while his trigger man keeps his gun on the Yakuza.

Jane has to count to ten mentally to not take a shot at Kestrel. She isn't some little toy that can be bartered for. Though it looks like this is going to turn into another blood bath no matter what happens.

She finds that it is hard to not start pulling puns from the back of her head. And she has the feeling that both Kestrel and Tekiya are going to be unwilling to let her and Jake walk out o this freely.

"Looks like we're gonna have a fight on our hands no matter what we do," Jane comments. Then tilts her head a little curiously. "You know. I've never been a part of a three way. First time for everything."

Jesus she shouldn't talk at times like this.

"Jane, I'm glad I'm sharing this three-way with you. And you certainly know how to make a gun fire, but I have to ask...can you use a sword?" Jake asks.

The Yakuza whisper to each other, and Kestrel's henchman looks like he's trying to decipher Navajo code-talk, but no one's moved yet.

"Not very well," she admits. "Just well enough not to hurt myself but I can improvise with the best of them."

She makes a mental note to start widening her level of training. She could always get better at anything. And it looks like the world is pushing her towards less common methods of fighting.

After all, Teufeltiger has no reason to lie to dead men.

He leaps at the Yakuza as his trigger man fires at Jake.

The Yakuza fire at Teufeltiger, Jake & Jane, and the henchmen.

Jake looses an arrow at Kestrel/Teufeltiger.

And the whole world goes to hell.

Thank god for body armor, Jane thinks as she dives and starts to fire at Kestrel.

"Damn it! Fight him! Not us," she shouts at the Yakuza. "We're not the real enemy."

Because of course the real one is the guy who is trying to rip their faces off. She is going to try and immobilize the man-tiger as best she can and try not to get killed by everyone else.
