Sad news @ 12:40 am

[info]dc_misc:

Throughout the U.S., every network, and many cable stations break into their regular coverage. The image of the Daily Planet comes on screen, followed by an image of a blonde woman with a tear streaked face. In the background, there's the ruins of a LexCorp facility.

"This is Carol Phelps for the Daily Planet." she begins, composing herself as she goes into field reporter mode. Even at her age, this is usually a Lois Lane job, but she's on assignment elsewhere - and this is very specific news. "And today, I'm sure the world will join us here at the Planet in mourning. Metropolis' first son, our visitor and protector from the stars - Superman, is dead. The tragedy occurred following a battle with noted business tycoon and former politician Lex Luthor, who appeared to have gone back to his criminal roots. The pair, along with a large number of robots and automated weaponry battled for hours in the skies above Metropolis. What brought about the conflict isn't certain.
What we do know is that Superman defeated Luthor and the apparent weapons, containing the damage to a small section of Metropolis around the LexCorp facility behind me, at significant cost to himself. At that point, and unknown third party arrived on the scene. We have not yet identified this person, who appears on cameras only as a shadowy outline. The stranger had words for Luthor and Superman both - we are attempting to find out what was said even now. Whoever the unknown party was, however, he then..."
she pauses, struggling to find her voice. "He slew first Lex Luthor, and then Superman, using some sort of lightning based weapon. We are not replaying the footage here, as the graphic nature of the images may be too shocking for some viewers, but it will be made available once authorities have had a chance to review them.

For now, a great deal remains unknown. What we do know is that the city... the planet, is without its first son. Superman is dead."

Backdated to Christmas Day @ 09:04 pm

Henry and Cassandra Cain sat opposite of each other at the dinner table in his dining room.  They were midway through a conversation, although it was strained by Cassandra's consistent lack of trust for her half-brother.  Something seemed off to her.  Her eyelid were growing heavier, and her stomach churned.  Then finally, she threw up.

"Are you feeling well, Cassandra?" Henry asked in rhetoric.  A smile was plastered across his face, and he set down his glass of wine.  "No, of course you aren't.  Oh, what a shame.  Not only are you dying, but so is your beloved Bruce Wayne.  Or, should I say the original Batman?  It should be any minute now that a person posing as the assassin that failed to kill Bruce Wayne before, finishes that job.  I really must say, this is quite the Christmas day."

Cassandra lost consciousness after Henry finished speaking.  She died shortly after, courtesy of a group of thugs taking out some anger on a returning Batgirl.  Within the next hour, news hit the radio, television, and papers about the death of Bruce Wayne.  A photo of his unknown killer -- known to the League of Assassins as Lady Vic -- was posted in the papers.  She was not, of course, the real killer.  One of Henry's trusted employees was just posing as her to do the job.  The next day, Cassandra's body was found, and news hit the stands about her.

As far as Henry was concerned, it was a fine week indeed.  And nobody even knew he had done anything.

Bad News Travels Fast @ 09:53 pm

Cindy answered a telephone call from her dad.

"Cindy, I don't want you working on superhero things for a while. Especially not visiting the JSA."

"Daddy! Is this about --"

"It's nothing to do with your little girlfriend. It's to do with the fact that the Rayner girl was just murdered. Coming right after what happened to Superman, this is just not happening, Cindy."

The Rayner girl... Oh god. Nic. "Okay Dad I hear what you're saying see you later love you bye!" she mutters as quickly as possible and hangs up.

And calls Avia for a quick favor. And then she's in New York rushing to the brownstone.

I'm sorry to have to tell you this... (Keith and Tim) @ 10:07 pm

(*takes places after the Songbirds finale*)

She still had Mia's blood on her.  She still had on the wrecked remains of her party dress and one of the shoes and she still wasn't sure how much of the rest of the evening had transpired, but one thing stood out crystal clear.  Mia was dead.  Mia had pushed her out of the way and taken an arrow to the heart.  An arrow fired by a madman that Marissa had pledged to stop.

She had failed, but that wasn't the painful part.  The painful part was that her failure had ended the life of Keith's sister, of Tim's friend. She was responsible for the death of a woman dear to her boyfriend and her brother.

She had to call them.  Keith first.  Marissa dialed the number she knew by her very heavy heart.

Running @ 11:06 pm

[info]3x2_9yz_4a:

Wendi hadn't stopped running since she'd fled the scene of Mickey's murder.  She had no destination in mind, she just needed to run, run as far away as she could.

Somewhere in that running, her hour ran out.  She skidded violently out of the Speed Force, retaining her friction aura just enough to protect her from the impact with the rough sand of the desert.  She pushed herself to her feet, coughing sand, and in the distance, saw pyramids.

God, what the heck was I doing, running like that?  I just... Mickey... I couldn't... that kind of thing doesn't... we're the good guys...

She was unsteady on her feet and sat down again.

"Yeah, messed that one up good, Wendi."

She turned her hourglass over.  She could probably call someone on the JSA comm to come get her, but she was probably better off just waiting until she could run again.
