The security guard led the Titans into what looked like a conference room. When inside, he removed a cigarette and lit it up.

"First off, thanks for coming. Second, you're not going to like how little I can actually tell you. Before you fly off the handle it's because I literally don't know, not because of confidentiality crap."

	The creatures were clearly unaccustomed to dealing with superhumans. They didn't appear overly strong as they fell to Jay and Ruth's blows. The fell quickly before Dinah's technology. Cait's water attacks cuty them open just fine. However..as they fell they started to heal and/or rise up again. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	The change in tactics works as the creatures begin to burn from the thermal blasts and become entrapped within the ice, Riley's blasts keeping the creatures from getting away. Meanwhile Jahawk and Mourning Dove move ahead where they'll hear gunfire and see a scientist and a security guard rund from the opposite direction. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

The scientist took a few more hurried breaths before sinking into a chair.

"It..it's a silicon-based lifeform. Two weeks ago a meteorite crashed in Tucson, Arizona. Cadmus sent a team to investigate it. The meteorite was covered with a red substance, sort of like crystallized magma. We studied it, and discovered that it had been feeding on the rock for sustenance, but at the same time, actually improved the mineral quality of its food-source."

"There's more to it," the scientist added quickly. "We were ordered to see what it's effects would be on modern technology. It had no affect on organic tissue so we believed it was safe. It improved the output of multiple machines. So much so that we exposed it to our latest nanomachines."

The security took a subtle step closer.

"It..crystallized into a heart-like object down in the basement. That's when are director came up with the name, Kardiak, using k's instead of c's as his means of a joke. What we didn't realize until too late was that lifeform's exposure to the nanomachines caused it to evolve into true sentience, but it's goals remain animalistic: To survive and propagate." The scientist shook his head. "And it's learned to use the nanomachines to affect organic matter."
