On their way up the stage, Thomas glares at the back of Maria's head as she pulls him along. He would've glared at the unsympathetic magic girl but Maria had glaring priorities here.

Right before they start he sighs in defeat and figures he has to do it to shut her up. This would be no different from going undercover and acting a part. It'd be like doing the flirty rich kid act but with a bit of showmanship added. So he flips the fedora onto his head and gives the crowd a cheeky grin right as they start.

He doesn't need to sing well, as long as he stays just below the music it wasn't too obvious if he was good or bad, and some hat tricks could distract people for parts. When Maria stops singing he gives her an evil eye. No way was he falling for that.

So Thomas smirks, puts the fedora on her head and jumps off stage, walking through the tables and starting a rhythmic clap and over all encouraging the audience to join in and get the woman on stage singing and dancing again.

Hey, at least he's still singing. She can't complain.

	Maria finished the song, because unlike some she wasn't a stick in the mud. She was up next and so she stayed up there and did a cover of "Holding Out For a Hero". (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"So, not that I'm complaining about the company," Alina says as Thomas gets back to the table, "but if you hate karaoke so much, why'd you let her drag your butt here?"

It's as good a conversation starter as any. She pops another fingerful of peanut butter into her mouth and contemplates whether or not it's possible to adjust the seating so that she can lay her legs across Jon's lap.

Thomas raises an eyebrow at Alina. As if he would've come if he'd known it was karaoke. "First of all, she dragged me along to be social and meet you two, there was zero mention of karaoke. Which of course, was intentional on her part because I wouldn't have come. Second, I did sing didn't I? And third....you have met Maria haven't you?" Because that was one person who didn't take no for an answer.

	Maria returned to the table just to catch the last few of Thomas' words. "That's because I'm a force of nature." She grinned and pinched his cheek. She fell into her chair and grabbed her beer. She downed half of it in one shot. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Alina grins at Jon and lays her legs across his lap anyway. "That's okay, my plan to move into your lap has a flexible timeline."

"'Maria is sneaky and didn't tell me what she was planning' is an entirely acceptable answer to my question, you know," she says to Thomas. "Because I have actually met her. Count yourself lucky we didn't bring sidewalk chalk." She thinks a moment, then turns to Maria. "Did you bring sidewalk chalk?"

Alina requested his full treatment of Hallelujah, and to figure out what his range is. Much as he's a boy scout, he's not shy about the spotlight, and goes right into it.

He starts out low, with all the Cohen gravel through the first verses (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJTiXoMCppw), gradually rising, both in tone, and from the stool on stage, leading into 'the major lift', into full Jeff Buckley/K.D. Lang version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_NpxTWbovE), hitting the power notes and rises easily, before dropping back to the solemn gravel, sinking back to sit down near the end as the song is hitting the most somber note, and his voice drops back accordingly as he wraps up the song.

Its not perfect impressions or anything like it, but its pitch perfect, with an only barely human vocal range. And unlike some people, he's grinning when he gets off stage.

"There you go. You may resume putting your evil plan in motion." he tells Alina."
