Unexpected Visitor
Sif stumbled up the sidewalk. The gates of the Avengers' Mansion loomed over her and she held on to the smallest piece of hope. The Avengers would be able to help her and help save Asgard. Something was definitely not right in the Golden Realm and Sif was determined to get to the bottom of it.

That determination helped her endure a long period in a dark cell with little food or water. It kept her going in the dark and gave her the strength to over power the guard and make her way out of Svartalfheim, the land of the dark elves. They had magic users and were fierce warriors, causing Sif to be very careful and very slow in making her way out of their realm. Not only did she have to avoid the dark elves, but the realm was home to many dangerous monsters and animals. Sif had been attacked a few times, but a crude staff made from a branch had served her well. She didn't come out of it unscathed. Her body was sporting various bruises and cuts, some deep.

The journey to Asgard had been long and treacherous, but she had made it. She didn't go into the city, instead she skirted around it. The last thing she wanted was to be tossed back into the cell. She would rather die than go back in there. Eventually she came to Bifrost and Heimdall. Getting over the bridge could have proved to be difficult, but Heimdall was her brother. Despite being loyal to throne of Asgard, Sif was his sister and he looked away long enough for her to run across the bridge to Midgard.

Sif arrived on Migard outside the Museum of Natural History. She knew the Avengers weren't far away. Heedless of people and traffic she made her way across the park to the Avengers' Mansion.

She looked at the gate and then collapsed into a heap.

Sif looked at Hank. "Asgar...ngggrh," she managed to get out before she slipped back into unconsciousness.

Hank frowned. Godly business was never good for anybody else when it spilled over into Earth. Like when the Cask of Ancient Winters had been opened. Or when they'd gone to Olympus to fight Typhus. Or... well, pretty much any time Thor or Hercules's relatives decided they were bored.

He hefted Sif easily. "I'm going to take her to the med-lab. Alert the others and tell Jarvis to brew some coffee. I think this is going to get complicated."

"I could have told you that the second there was a collapsed Asgardian on the damn gate-step." Jan fought an urge to roll her eyes. Here we go again she thought to herself and wondered why they didn't just...sick Hulk on the gods or something. Two issues, one big green stone.

She took off ahead of Hank, though, and ran into the mansion.

"JARVIS! We need some major caffination!" Her attention turned to sounding the alert to the others with instructions to meet up at Hank's lab.

Hank brought Sif into the lab and set her on one of the medical tables there, setting up the bio-electric monitoring field.

True, they owed the existence of the Avengers to Asgardian meddling, but nevertheless, little good came out of the mixing usually. Even with all their powers, they ended up far out of their depth much of time when the two met.

"I just know I'm not going to like the answers to this," he muttered.

Tony gets word of the issue while he's in a meeting at Stark Enterprises and excuses himself, leaving Pepper in charge. He heads down to the sub-basement to get his armor, and flies over to the Mansion immediately.

"Janet, status report. What's going on?" Tony asks.

"Sif collapsed at the gate. She was mostly non-verbal, though she grunted 'Asgard' and then passed out again. Hank's taken her to medical but since everything with Asgardians is OMG DRAMA...alerty time." She paused. "Looks kinda serious, Tony."

"Is it just me, or does there seem to be a certain pattern to these things?" Natasha asked from where she stood in the doorway. She had arrived just in time to hear Janet's explanation.

"It could explain why Thor hasn't been seen or heard from in months," Natasha added.

"Thor's never been one to stay long," Hank said, as he came into the room. "Trying to split his time between Earth and Asgard. I figured he'd just gotten busy doing... whatever it is they do up there."

"What've we got here...holy..." the cup of coffee in Jen's hands came shattering to the ground. "Sorry but...is that Sif? Is Thor in some sort of trouble?"

Steve walked in not far behind Jen. There was an apparent look of concern on his face when he asked, “Has she said what happened to her or anything to give us a clue?”

"All she's done is show up and collapse and garble out the word Asgard. That's pretty much it which is why you all were called. Clearly a lack of ability to be verbal is a clear sign we may have an issue."

"She's showing signs of having been on the run for a while," Hank added.

"All of which adds up to "not good" for anyone."

"Understatement of the year," Natasha commented. Natasha stepped closer to the table and gently picked up one of Sif's arms. She carefully inspected the hand and notably the wrist. "She was in restraints," Natasha said. "There's chafing and bruising around her wrists. Probably ankles as well. She was being held prisoner somewhere."

Natasha carefully laid Sif's arm back down on the table.

"Yeah...which leaves the question, where the hell is Thor? If there's something going down in Asgard, he'd be there right?" Unless Thor was in some sort of trouble. Which likely seemed the case right now.

"I think we should go with the assumption that something has happened to him as well. He'd never let Sif be imprisoned."

“That sounds likely given what we’ve seen,” Steve said, “and if something has happened to Sif and probably Thor it’s also likely something has happened to the other Asgardians as well.”
