The Start of a War

Rose Red met with each group individually to tell them what she expected of them for their upcoming attack. The point of these attacks was not to win them and destroy everything though they could if they wanted she didn’t care as long as civilians were kept out of it. The point was too implicit the Kingpin in these attacks and that was all that they really needed to accomplish. The other thing she instructed them to do was if the fight got bad and it looked like they were to lose they were to make a retreat as fast as they could and if they got caught she would have them killed.

"Here you go." Crosshairs offers, setting a black box with buttons down on a table near the window she came in through, and leaping out the window to land with a roll, already moving as she hits the ground, only making sure the Hood is out before she goes.

She's true to her word to a point. Should the heroes look around, there's no bomb. And the detonator is a TV remote. Pays to have a way out when you can't be mind read, and she figured the heroes would believe there were bombs, even if the whole point, from the girls' perspective was to leave plenty of people alive to deliver the message. Most of the thugs are even alive, even if they'll need bullets removed from all sorts of uncomfortable but non-lethal parts of their anatomy.

Jack watched Crosshairs warily, ready to do something both stupid and heroic if she managed to detonate the bomb.

"Kal?"

Kalypso released her hold on the woman and let her go. Kal looked at Jack after they were gone. "We call this one a draw?" she asked. "Otherwise I don't know."

He shook his head and went to examine the black box. "That was entirely off the wall crazy. Did you recognize either of them?"

Kal shook her head and picked up the remote. "No. Not either of them. Let's call it a night and go home."

He gestured to the box. "We need to turn this over to somebody."

"It's just a tv remote," Kal said and handed it to him. "Let's go home."

He looked from the remote in his hand to the box. This didn't feel right at all, but they couldn't stay around puzzling out why two villains would bring in a fake bomb and shoot up an office building. He could do that in his head.

He tucked the remote in a pocket. It had the girl's scent and he didn't want to forget that just yet.

"Let's go."

"You know I love it when you pick me up," he said with a smile in response.

Kal wrapped her arms around him and lifted him up and together they flew out the opened window.
