Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

The next morning...

Waking up in a strange bed, in a strange room that didn't smell like the programmable espresso machine did its job was disorienting for a bit. Sammy dealt with it by staying right where she was, quiet and peaceful for as long as it would last.

Which wouldn't be long. She needed an infusion of caffeine to get her blood moving.

She hadn't bought a robe, mostly because she didn't wear one and it didn't come to mind. Could she go downstairs and see if there was coffee in her pajamas? She really didn't want to insult Mrs. Landon.

In the end, the lure of coffee was stronger than her need to worry about her nightclothes.

The scent of coffee emanates from the kitchen, as does the smell of waffles, bacon and eggs.

There is also the sound of conversation.

"Jason, she is a sweet girl, if somewhat sad. She's...carrying something that she doesn't know how to put down. But you said she took offense on your behalf when Stevie Ray Jenkins started to attack you." Gran says.

"No, Ah said that she took offense after he called her outside of her name, and boy did she take a offense." Tech says, a note of pride in his tone.

There is silence for a moment, before Gran speaks again, as she is still cooking.

"You look at her the way your grandfather used to look at me, Jason." Gran says.

Tech laughs.

"Gran, I don't even know her! There's nothing between us. Besides...it would ruin our working relationship and Ah wouldn't do anything that would make issue for Fury. She's got a lot of people watchin' her all the time from what Ah gather. She's got to walk a very fine line, and...there's just nothing there." he says suddenly, as if he'd like this line of conversation to end.

"Methinks the genius doth rationalize too much." the older woman says.

	Sammy heard the voices, but she wasn't clearheaded enough to follow the conversation. She'd think it over later, but now she had to climb into the coffee pot. "Good morning," she said to the kitchen at large, address Evelyn, Tech, and the coffeemaker. "I'm sorry to interrupt but if it's okay, I'd like a cup of coffee to see me through getting dressed." "Someone get this woman a cup of coffee, stat!" he says, grabbing a mug and filling it with hot coffee. He passes Fury the mug and some sugar and cream, since he doesn't know what she takes in her coffee.

He considers a jest that involves telling her that the coffee is really decaf, but Gran is armed with a spatuala and he can't see Fury's gun. In her non-caffeinated state, he might actually shoot him and Gran would tell him it was his own fault before patching him up.

So he goes with a simple "Good morning, Fury. Today, we're going learn about the other four food groups. Would you like to try bacon, eggs and waffles today?" he teases.

	Evelyn looks over her shoulder at Tech. "Jason, do not tease that poor girl. Get yourself a mug for your tea so that you two can eat. "We have far, far too much work to do on you, Fury. Really, there's more to life than coffee." he says.

"One day, some enterprising terrorist is going to learn how to really cripple the world: they will steal every bit of coffee on the planet and threaten to send it to the Negative Zone." Tech says.

"Governments will collapse and the world will tremble." Tech says.

"Please excuse my grandson, Agent Fury. I know you're supposed to apprehend terrorists, but he's had that idea for twelve years and he still thinks that anyone with a lick of sense wouldn't shoot him for messing with their coffee." Gran says.

"He also thinks that the world will pay to get their coffee back when they have S.H.I.E.L.D. to come in and beat said terrorist senseless." she chuckles.

"Sam, don't be silly. You're should be relaxing and walking around in pajamas is part of that. I think I'd have been worried to /not/ in your pajamas. You are a guest and you don't have to be completely together all the time." Evelyn says.

"We know you're human and we like that way." she smiles, serving up the bacon, eggs and waffles on both plates.

"Now, you two eat while I finish getting ready and Jason, don't start in on the coffee again, please. If you do, I do not promise to help you when Sam takes offense." Evelyn laughs and leaves the room.

Tech's expression is skeptical, but he does as requested and takes a piece of bacon and dips into Fury's coffee, then pops it into his mouth.

The taste is new, strange, but not revolting. His head nods in approval. He doesn't think he'll be eating it often, but he consent to trying more often than once a blue moon.

"All right...not bad." he concedes, chuckling at the fact that only a coffee-addict could come up with such a thing.
