Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

	He returns the smile. "It does and it makes a lot of sense, too, in light of things Ah knew previously." Jason says. "Ah'm guessin' that Feds had so much trouble catchin' Savoy and my brother that they called in S.H.I.E.L.D. My life has taken such a turn lately. But it's a good turn." Jason says. "S.H.I.E.L.D. under UN charter has a little more leeway in what they can do and places to put people. They have files on everyone who crosses their radar. Unless you're squeaky clean and have lived in a glass house all your life, they'll know what you did and when and how to use it if you become a problem. They can cross borders a lot easier than local authority."

Sammy shook her head. "I'm good for now. Let's get the chores over and see about the fun stuff. Then, I supervise you getting some sleep tonight."

"But what if I'm really bad? What's in it for me then?"

Sammy took his hand automatically. It was becoming a habit for her. "I don't want to be president. The president doesn't have enough power to get things done when needed, and I'd have to give up my dual citizenship. The director doesn't make big bucks, but there are big decisions that ultimately affect more people, whether they know it or not. That's what I was raised to do and what I want to do."

"Threatening me with a good time? I can't wait to see what that brain of yours cooks up."

"The deputy director is an Italian citizen and she's never given it up. That gives me dual citizenship. Not that it makes a lot of difference, but it's an option that gives me a choice. I still can't get into Italy any easier than I can with other countries. S.H.I.E.L.D. ID pretty much handles all of that."

	A mental image of Jason as a lounge lizard, complete with double knit polyester leisure suit and tail. She began to laugh. And laugh. Stress and tension, what was left after their long, revealing conversation, drained away with the impulse. She leaned against the SUV, giggling madly. Okay, Jason didn't think it wasn't that funny, but he laughs along with her anyway.

Jason notes that this is the first time he's seen her so...giddy. Either he's doing a good job at playing the country bumpkin or she's really liked the idea of him as a lounge lizard. That wouldn't be such a bad Halloween idea...

"Ah'm glad Ah could help." he says genuinely. She's found a way to lighten her load, and Jason is glad for that.

"Now, to get home, shower, and get on out to Clarice and change that combination. Then, we can get dinner and relax a bit before anything else." he says, drying his hair with the towel, which is now all unkempt.

He, of course, tries to smooth it back down, to no avail.

She, of course, tried to help by running her fingers though his hair. It did no good, but she liked the sensation of his hair against her palm.

"It'll give you time to decide where I can touch your skin and not distract you while you work." She tossed the towel and her clothes into the backseat and climbed into the passenger seat. "Skin contact works best for what I do."

"Hm. It will have to be my neck. That would be the least distracting place you could touch me where I can keep my focus." Jason says, enjoying her fingers in his hair.

Once they're in the car, he'll reverse and put the vehicle in drive, then lace his fingers with hers. They'll drive back to Gran's and pull up to the back porch.

"And here we are again." Jason says, kissing Sam's hand.

Jason nods and gives her hand a final squeeze before getting out of the car. He doesn't want to press, so if she says she's okay, he'll go with it for now.

He grabs his Skittles from the car and leads the way into the house, popping a few in his mouth. A euphoric look crosses his face as he enjoys the Wildberry goodness.

"Oh, this is close to Heaven, this right here." he says happily.
