Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

"The 'we sucked' one was held four am one Sunday morning when Cap turned on the alarm and we all ended up fighting each other because of the confusion."

She dried her dishes and returned them to their proper places. "The psychologically worst one. Cap had a phase where he was developing personal training sessions for us to help get us over whatever hurdle he thought we were experiencing, or give us the push we needed to next level. I had to fight an LMD of my father and I wasn't allowed to cheat with a temporal pause."

Jason nods at both of these, agreeing that they do fall into the realm of sucking pretty badly.

"I see the merits in helping everyone get over their personal hurdles but...an LMD of your father seems a bit...extreme. How did you fare in that trial?" he asks. Sammy doesn't seem like someone who lets an obstacle stop her too long, but he could see the psychological issues attached with facing a family member.

Jason would never want to face off against Jake or his grandfather like that, so he can't imagine what Sam went through in her own crucible.

	"I failed the first four times." She turned to lean against the counter and folded her arms. "I've trained with Dad all my life. It stood to reason that I would be able to find the chinks and use them against an LMD." She shook her head at her own foolishness. 	He notices the change in her body language as she admits to her failure. She doesn't like admitting it, but she doesn't sugarcoat or dodge, or place blame elsewhere, he noted. She doesn't make excuses, either. "How did you finally overcome it?" he asks. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	That was interesting. He didn't focus on the fact that she cheated Cap's rules, only on the method. "There were no logic circuits to override. It didn't talk, only kept coming after me. I stopped time, knocked it down and put a bullet through its power source." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"And how did Cap take that? Did he even know you'd cheated? Ah haven't really seen anyone yet who knows that you've done your mojo after you've done it. The information might help me in future developments." Jason says.

"Somehow, Ah think Cap knew you'd have to use your powers to stop it. Maybe he just wanted to see how long you'd go obey his order before going for it." Jason speculates.

She grinned and tapped her nose. "There was no way to win because I was outclassed by a machine. I had to use what made me different to beat it, and I had to change the rules to do it. Which was the lesson all along."

"The others had personal sessions too, but nobody knows what the rest had to deal with. We weren't all destined to stay with Young Avengers or go to other teams, and Cap prepared us for it."

"It hasn't been that long, really. Just since the summer. I'm still a reserve member." What she didn't say was that Qamar would still have been alive because he only joined the special ops team because she had.

"But I would have still been living at the Avengers mansion, attending school daily instead of online classes now, and eating Jarvis' cooking instead of helicarrier food. But I wouldn't have spent my life there. I'm going to head S.H.I.E.L.D."
