Three Course Day
Vincent was single this Valentine's Day, but he was determined not to let himself be dragged down by that. To that end, he'd arranged friend-dates with three ladies he was inordinately fond of.

	He senses the spike in tension, and raises his other hand with an open palm, even as he offers the flowers. "Pink roses, for affection. I didn't want to spend the day alone, I think you're good company, and I'd like to be friends. If that's acceptable, there are crepes, french toast, and tea waiting." Vincent smiles. "They're very pretty, Vincent, thank you." Kassi takes the flowers still not entirely certain what to do here. "Come on in. I'm still getting my books and stuff together. I hope it's okay that I didn't get you anything. I didn't exactly make the Valentine's connection when you wanted to do breakfast."

She smiled, a little. It was true. She'd been far too obsessed with wondering if she should do something for Ben or not.

"Hey, it's good that you are able to stay friends with her, Vincent. Most people aren't so fortunate and I think that says a lot about you." She smiles at him and was considering offering a hug--considering--when there is a knock at her door.

"Huh. I wasn't expecting anyone else..." She goes to answer it and sees...Ben.

"Ben? Ben! Hi! I...hi! Come in!"

She asks nothing about the roses. She's just super-excited to see Ben.

	Ben walks in, all smiles, as he sees Kassi...and then his smile falters as he sees the other guy. The other guy, who is older and who Ben doesn't know at all. Ben looks to Kassi. "Hey. I didn't realize you had company." Ben says. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Kassi is still smiling widely at Ben and pulls him into the apartment. "It's cool. Vincent is a family friend." That was close, right? "Vincent, this is my....Ben! This is Ben!" She almost said boyfriend but stopped. Ben hadn't quite made that distinction clear. Also, he was her Ben. Damnit. "Vincent was being nice in regards to breakfast." Kassi nodded. 	Friend of the family? Well, Vincent supposed that was one way of putting it. "Our fathers have a... complicated relationship." He offers, before introducing himself, extending a hand to Ben. The symbiote has been looking for an opening to re-establish it's link back to Ben, and this moment couldn't be more perfect.

/Sssshe is treacherous...ssseee how ssshe pretends to care for you one moment, then is with another when your back is turned? How many times has she done this, Ben?/

Ben doesn't shake the offered hand, simply staring at Vincent.

"Wow. I guess you know more about her dad than I do." Ben says, somewhat sarcastically.

"You know, if you just wanted to be friends, Kassi, you could have said so. Leading people on isn't a way to show friendship." Ben says, looking at her.

He drops the roses on the coffee table.

"Don't worry, I can show myself out." Ben says, and turns to walk away.

What just happened here? Kassia blinked a few times watching Ben suddenly seem to shift in front of her. He's never acted like this before, not in front of her and when he drops the roses and turns to leave, Kassi panics a little.

"Ben! Ben, don't go." She grabs his arm and catches him. "I don't want to just be your friend; I want to be your girlfriend. I'm not seeing Vincent. I'm seeing you."

She tries to kiss him to prove her point.

Vincent takes a step back, realizing what he's apparently stepped into. "...there's clearly been a misunderstanding... Kassia's just a friendly acquaintance I've been trying to get to know better."

The maelstrom of adrenaline-fueled emotion that just cropped up in the young man is especially obvious. Vincent expands his senses, just a little, trying to do a surface read of his mind.

What, do the college girls see through this whole Preppy-Eurotrash thing you've got going? Or do you think you can score easier with high-school girl?" Ben asks, moving away from Kassi's kiss.

As Vincent reaches out with his senses, he notes a couple of things: first, Ben seems to be trying the same empathic sensory that he's doing. Secondly, that as angry as Ben appears, he seems to be enjoying the conflict erupting here.

Finally, both sets of emotions don't appear to be in concert with each other. Almost like Ben's emotions are going in different directions at once.

Vincent's ego takes a nick at Kassia not having mentioned him, but common sense overrules it, deeming it understandable.

"I'm nineteen, and when last I checked, Kassia was capable of deciding for herself whom she spends time with." He ignores the Eurotrash comment, deeming it beneath him.

When the read comes back, Vincent frowns, taking a step forward and shoring up his mental defenses. A brief message flickers to Kassia's mind. Step back.

He reaches out again. He has part of the young man's name, but forewarned is forearmed. Humans wear their identities, for the most part, on their sleeves. He manages to read a little further.

"Mister Parker..." Vincent's voice seems to take up space in the room. "..what are you carrying with you that's so excited by this.. conflict?" A pause. "I can help you."

	This is just getting worse by the second and Kassi pulls back from Ben when he refuses her kiss, looking stricken. Then Vincent opens his mouth. "Shut UP Vincent! Both of you! I am NOT into Vincent and if Vincent is trying to perv on me I will punch him into paste." She actually gets between them. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

A part of Ben's mind salivates at the idea of battering Vincent within an inch of his life and making him crawl the rest of the way. Perhaps, if Kassia were not between them, he would act upon his desires.

Something in Kassi's and Vincent's voices, however, give Ben enough presence of mind to assert himself, albeit briefly. Vincent can now sense that Ben is not alone in his mind. There is someone or somethig else there...and it has sensed his intrusion.

We do not /need/ your help. Your interference will not be tolerated again. a deep, otherworldly voice intones inside of Vincent's head.

Then there is what can only be described as a high-pitched scream inside of Vincent's mind, forcing him out.

At that moment, Ben simply stares at Vincent, then looks to Kassi.

"Do what you want. I don't care." he says coldly. "And I'll see /you/ around Vinnie."

He turns and leaves this time, slamming the door behind him.

	Okay, that was not human. Vincent flinches as it screams in response to his scan. His mouth hangs open slightly as Kassia reacts, then leaves. He hurries into the hallway, hoping to deal with the presence first. Whatever has hold of this Ben, it's not sitting well with him. Or with Vincent. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Ben leaves the building as quickly as he came, his clothing changing into his costume and hiding his face from sight. The symbiote takes over at this point, two hours before Ben has to be at school. New York's criminal element has a very bad Valentine's Day. (Reply to this)(Parent)
