Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (Genoshans, Nell)
When everything was done at the volunteer site, there was cleaning up and meeting at that great little restaurant with the nice private rooms. The whole gang: Andrew, Giovanna, Angelo, Sengai, Rikki...and that Nell girl Gio had met. The St. Croix girl. The American (and therefore baseline) St. Croix girl. Gio was still processing this. Good thing for the restaurant's record keeping away eavesdroppers, in case someone ended up saying something untoward.

"This is Nell St. Croix." She knows Andrew's probably the only one on top of the history of mutant activism enough to associate St. Croix, in an American, with human 'mutie-lovers.' The others, at most, would think of the Algerians. Best not to get into that just yet. Just focus on the neutral facts. "We were pulling up boards together at the site in Mutant Town today, and as we were talking, I decided it'd be good for her to meet everyone. Nell, this is my brother Angelo, this is Rikki Cargill, Sengai Senyaka, and my boyfriend, Andrew Summers. Andrew's in charge at the consulate."

Angelo was dressed as formally as he could still move freely in. He had even insisted on holding out chairs for the females in attendance that were not Giovanna (that was Andrew's privilege, of course). Even Rikki.

It is especially notable that it was internalized as 'even Rikki' instead of 'even the human'.

After briefly swooning over the menu and making a note to ask to meet the chef if possible, he smiles politely at the introductions, then tilts his head. "St Croix... are you related to Louis St Croix, perhaps? The human mutant-rights activist?"

	Gio sighs, he hand going for her nose at the fact that Angelo had to choose this point not to be oblivious about. "No, Rikki, those are the Algerian St. Croixs. Completely different family of rich people. Sengai, Nell's great-uncle was a founder in the 'Mutant Underground' decades ago. But there's nothing wrong with not having heard of him." Andrew stands, looking daggers at Rikki.

"Excuse me, among my own relations are the overly stern cold fish of the founding class, by extension his wife, another founder, two former members I call 'mother' and 'father', and even my esteemed grandfather, who most of the region would associate with less than positive things, expresses considerable respect for his opposite number, enough to have occasionally supported them, despite stated disagreement. I would appreciate it if we, despite disagreeing with Xavier's principles, could do likewise.

Secondly, I was apparently not heard correctly the first time. Regardless of her relations, Nell is here on the invitation of my right hand, and thus my guest. I will take any disparaging remarks personally until her own words and actions deserve otherwise. Do I make myself clear?"

Angelo just smiles as Andrew takes control of the situation and lays things out. He can practically feel the reassurance wash over him.

He just smiles innocently at Rikki--

Heh.

and Nell. "Your great-uncle's contributions went against all socio-statistical likelihood. You should be proud."

Which is Bennet for 'It's downright freakish that a human ever tried to help mutants that much."

	"I beg your pardon. My knowledge of such things are much less than I'd like." He looks around to make sure no nearby patrons were looking. He quickly lifted the glasses long enough to rub the sweat from under his eyes. The brief hint of their natural glow was quickly covered as he returned the shades to their former place. Rikki's expression instantly changed to one of contrition. She'd crossed a line without thinking. It never had been her strong suit. She just reacted.

"Of course," she said, with forced evenness. "My apologies."

The next bit, however, nearly prompts some rather nasty words from her. As it is, her fist clenches and her density started to increase, though not quite enough to damage the floor. A flatscan?!

Gio has to admit, though she's sorry Rikki was on the receiving end, Andrew looks so handsome when he's verbally and morally bitchslapping someone.

On the whole, though, she should have planned this better. She took a breath.

"Sengai, Nell was using self-deprecating humor, not intending any insult to your mother. Rikki, aside from her family's involvement in the Mutant Underground, Nell's mother has had dinner on many occasions with Andrew's grandfather, so you're in good enough company in terms of eating with her family there. And I thought Andrew would benefit from talking with her both about her St. Croix connections and her inheritance from Captain Forrester. I'm sorry if I could have organized these introductions better."

Andrew sits back down, looking around at everyone.

"Please, sit. Jakob and Kristine Eisenhardt were human." he says, naming Erik Lensherr's parents, pointedly. "The mother of his children as well. Most of the authors on my 'people I admire' bookshelf are human. And if we are ever going to have any form of peace between mutants and humans, with or without co-existence... first, we need to be able to eat dinner together.

Ms. St. Croix, I apologize, and take full credit for the unfortunate beginning. I'm sure you understand, given recent events, tensions are somewhat high. Given that you met Giovanna while working in Mutant Town, I'm sure you understand that as well as anyone... and to make amends, this meal is on me."

He eyes the others again. "Everyone, please sit, dinner is on me. The roast chicken is supposed to be excellent."

	There was little Rikki could refuse one from the line of Magneto, and this was no different. If he wanted her to eat with the flatscan, so be it. And if said flatscan had some kind of family history with Magneto... Well, might make her tolerable, at least. So long as she didn't touch her. She sat. "Again... sorry," she managed. Nell glanced down at her wrist and lifted it a bit, the light catching the metal and stones. It was obvious that it was old.

"It was a birthday gift from a friend of my mother's. I think it came from a pirate's shipwreck, but Switchblade Pete doesn't tell his secrets. Other than it carries 'special gifts' for the wearer. If that means compliments received when wearing it, definitely true."
