In the Deep of the Night
Night had settled over the city of Los Angeles. A waning gibbous mood had risen and the light of the stars was blocked out by the thick smog that usually blanketed the city. The hours moved on and the city slowed down. Citizens were asleep in their beds and off to dreamland.

The same held true for the residents at 1800 Palos Verdes Drive.

They wouldn't stay asleep for long. Something stirred in the darkness outside.

They are standing within sight of Hal. There's really no place to hide on the lawn. "Aridis deal with Halbjorn, now. Grace and Dawn, back her up. Marlow and Eiltin, go find Titan."

Aridis realizes that she must bring her brother back to them.

"Halbjorn Thorson, you will listen to me," Aridis says in a commanding tone hoping that will grab his attention. If not she will have to move in closer and hope even in his great rage he will know her as his sister.

Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, c'mon Hal, you know us, you don't want to hurt us, you're not gonna do anything crazy and God, it's hard to believe I think you're kinda hot when you're going all psycho killer like this and I'm just a librarian and I'm hanging out with gods and getting in the middle of multi-pantheon blood feuds and...

Dawn clamped down on her racing thoughts, taking up a position a couple steps behind and to the right of Ardis, ready to cast a spell if need be.

He roars - and then rushes at his sister. At first, there's no sign of recognition. He even swings the axe... and pulls it up just inches short - even in his grief and failure, he cannot attack the princess, possibly now the heir.

He holds the axe there, then just collapses forward, fingernails digging trenches in the concrete after dropping his axe. Better demolishing the grounds than do harm to any of the others.

Marlow cast another protection shield, this one to keep the all too human members safe while Aridis reasoned with Hal.

"What shadow things? What were they like?" Somewhere, possibly, she'd been taught about them and would be able to recognize them. "Did they say anything?"

"I might be able to do something that should make it easier for you to get through to him," Eiltin says. Bardic training did have it's uses.

"Go find Titan," Syd ordered. "He may be hurt or worse."

"Shadows. They came out of nowhere. They grabbed Svalin and then disappeared with her."

"As you wish," Eiltin says his tone revealing how much he did not wish to do so right now. He didn't like the thought of leaving Grace in the possibility of danger when he could help.

In the dark, Marlow's pale face turned whiter. "I'll find him. I spelled him so I could always find him no matter what."

"Brother," Aridis found her voice dropping low and getting very grim. "We will get her back. And we will destroy whoever has dared to take our sister from us. We will shed their blood and make our pain theirs. This I swear."

Vernique stays back, lets Aridis work, and just tries to stay calm and make sense of this.

"...this isn't even the right damn pantheon!"

He's not ready for words yet. How much he even understands of what Aridis said isn't clear - but a vow of destruction - that, in intent, anyway, at least he gets.

Sigurdur's anger is no less than Hal's, but his anger is aimed at himself. He'd been trying to step back and let Svalin have time to herself, trying not to crowd her, but it seemed that every time he was not by her side, danger seemed to fall upon her at once.

"It matters not who ist behind this. They wilt understand the wrath of Asgard before it ist over." Sigurdur vows.

"It does matter who is behind this," Syd said. "As soon as we know who did, we can go after them and Svalin. Dawn and Marlow, do you think you can find out who did it?"

Franklin stood off to the side, scanning a large area with his telepathy. He was looking for all three missing members of the Defenders team with his own abilities.

"The shadows. Where was Svalin when they took her? If we can find a trace of any kind, we can set a spell to take us to their place of origin."

"Definitely doable," Dawn agreed. Easier if they had some of those nice magic trinkets like the Doc did, but still definitely doable.

"In the hangar bay," Syd answered. "Let's find Titan first. Then work on getting Svalin."
