Returning home (Meme- Fluff, Meeting Again)
It was supposed to just be a week long trip to a dig site. It was going to help her finish off her degree so she could focus on her other duties full time. And really everything should have gone smoothly! It had. Mostly.

Except she got talked into staying for another week when they stumbled across a big find that was more of Kayura's area of specialty. It was really hard to say no because it was a fantastic example of mid-thirteenth century armor and it had been exciting.

Then she had wrenched her knee badly the day before she had to leave. She had to delay going back because of that. The site medic didn't want her to risk tearing something since they had to hike to and from the dig site. So now it was almost three weeks later and now she is finally back and so happy to just have to wait for the date to graduate more or less.

But boy was this a little embarrassing. Almost two weeks late coming home even though she had sent word explaining everything.

"Other families who have a history with what mine dealt with," she confirms. "My Mother made sure I interacted with them more after my very early days at school."

She really didn't get along with her classmates. "And we became rather close. Especially Ayaka and myself. After our first year her Mother switched her to my school so we wouldn't be too lonely. It was.... Good. Since then we've never studied at different schools."

"An interesting approach. So your family has a number of others with some shared history... interesting association."

"Not all of them are directly involved with things but.... My father was friends with them. It's not usual for parents to think that if they are friends their children might become friends if given a chance. With most of us that was very true."

She takes another sip from her tea. "I can say honestly it's good that a few of them and myself grew out of how we used to react to each other. With each other we very much acted our ages."

And she still recalls being very upset her doll had been a casualty of her not getting along with Jiro.

He nods thoughtfully, slowly working on his own tea. "I recall moving around a good deal, moving between living with my father at times for those lessons, and living with my mother, and knowing very different people depending on which I was living with. Either way, acting like a child was not encouraged for very long."

She will raise an eyebrow in a barely noticeable manner. That seems very unusual to her but she won't comment on that.

"I was.... Lucky? My Mother thought there should be a balance. Father agreed for his own reasons but I was still very aware they needed me to take things seriously." She smiles though thinking fondly of them.

"For someone who had no exposure to the supernatural before she met my Father Mother took to it very well. She was very good with a sword. A better archer though, I recall." She also recalls that flirting for her parents involved sparring but there's no need to ever share that.

He tilts his head a bit at her raised brow. "Is something wrong?" he asks directly, wanting to make sure he hasn't confused her.

"And yes... a certain balance is good. My father saw to my training as a samurai, and looking to my talent with a blade, but my mother was the more comfortable hand in court, and a samurai must at least be comfortable in both worlds."

"Ah. It's nothing Sempai." Besides he had explained it just now.

"I always thought my Father just preferred to not disagree. Mother could be a force of nature compared to him." She takes after him that way. She doesn't like being loud.

"Yes, I am still very much getting used to all of these couples who spend enough time with each other to argue so much. It seems very inefficient for the most part."

He otherwise accepts her response with a small nod. "If you have questions... I know things have changed a great deal. I am always happy to answer questions."

That actually got a giggle from her.

"Oh no. I wouldn't have called it arguing for them. Discussions, yes. But not real fighting. There were things were she would obey Father unquestioningly though," says trying not to smile too much.

"She would go with him to help him fight when he needed back up. He needed her to listen if she was going to help."

She shakes her head. "It is alright Sempai. I sometimes forget how different the time period you come from was when it cam.... Comes to many things."

He nods. "My parents were not overly fond of one another. I do not recall many of the details now, but it was usually seen as a very good sign of a harmonious household. When people got on too well, they often attempted to live together too often, and either business was neglected, or there was more opportunity for argument." he explains, with no sign of irony in his tone. "She was left to run the house, while he attended to business and sent her his money so she could tend to his affairs."

"It's.... Different now." She didn't want to go into everything. Just that it was. She also knew that women being home makers still was pretty normal up until recently. Her family had just been a little different.

"Not that much different, I think."

"Yes, Amiko-sama has been trying to explain some aspects of it. Few marriages are arranged now, people choose their own spouse... very odd."

"But it works. My parents were both very happy and they..... chose each other." She quirks a amused smile.

"Of course that brings the problem of trying to date. It's.... not enjoyable for me. I think I'd rather be working."

"It works if the couple is willing to work at it." He hadn't had that explained to him? She hopes she can explain it.

"It's basically a part of courtship now. People go on dates to see if they like each other romantically and have things in common. Or later on to continue to bond while they decide if they want to continue things."

She's making that clear, right?

"Ahhh yes, I see. That would take a great deal of getting used to. We knew of romance, of course... but it rarely had a great deal to do with marriage - though in many cases, the person staying home would see to it that appropriately disceet affairs were arranged for their spouse. In the system you have now, I can see the use for it."

"I think that sometimes still happens. But I think that is mostly human nature." She also thinks it's not her business either.

"It's still somewhat troublesome to try dating as I don't have time. I will have to one day make time but for now I'd rather focus on finishing my studies."

"Hopefuly my Uncle doesn't try to arrange another 'blind date' for me." She had huffed a bit over that then paused. She hadn't meant to mention that. Oh well. Nothing to be done.

"So, if a date is getting to know someone you might possibly be interested in... a blind date is... someone else believing they know a good match for you?"

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]weakerlink

"Hai," she relaxes a little since this is avoiding her Uncle. Mostly. "My Uncle thought he was helping. He thought I needed to try dating and his younger co-worker would be.... a respectable prospect. Usually it is friends who set bind dates up."

But that had been a horrible date. She was still unhappy with him for not saying he had set her up on a blind date.

"I would have trusted my mother to find a suitable match eventually. That was only expected. Indeed, a match normally would have been made by the age I was, but my pilgrimage delayed arrangements, and she believed she could do better once I had achieved more as a kensai. Most other relatives... I do not think I would have appreciated the marriage as much, or been sure it was intended to be to my benefit."

"I probably would have allowed my mother to set up blind dates. She wouldn't have selected someone who would annoy me at least.... I think sometimes there can be an advantage to letting one's mother deal with some matters. Family often understands what you need better than anyone else would."

Well she thinks Mothers often know best. Hers had always seemed to know just what was needed.

She tries to find a reason to agree or disagree but honestly both have merits. "I can see both being good for different reasons."
