One of a Kind
The Collector was always searching for unique and unusual items to add to his personal collection. He had numerous worlds filled with items he had collected over the eons. His attention had wandered away from Earth for awhile, but that changed. Now something unique caught his eye and he was determined to add it to his collection.

He landed on the front porch of the Defenders' compound. He blasted the door into oblivion and walked into the building.

	Annoying sort of opponent, a distance fighter. Brandr was not a fan of this sort of thing. Time to close the distance. Not much furniture going to be left after this. He dodges and tosses two pieces of furniture at the attacker, before rushing in behind them, sword out and ready. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	The Collector sent two blasts in rapid succession at the thrown furniture. He didn't have time to react to Brandr's charge, but he did have a personal force field that protected him. He had picked up numerous different technologies in his quest to add things to his collection. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Brandr's blade goes out for a slash, not expecting a force field at all. After all, this blade could cut through rock easily, it rarely found things the could stop it cold, and certainly wasn't in the habit of fighting advanced tech. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Even as nimble as he is on his feet, at this distance he can only dodge so much at last minute so the blast gets him full in left side and sends him back. Durable as Asgardians are, apparently the man had taken that into account with his power setting because Brandr could pretty much smell the burning flesh. That side would be useless for this fight now.

He staggers to his feet and feigns a frontal attack only to do a last moment slide by to get behind the man and attack again, hoping the back would prove weaker, find a weak spot in the force field or see if putting enough strength in could crack it.

Still nothing. Surely the thing couldn't be impregnable? He's considering his next move when the backhand comes, the blast that had just hit him before slows him down and again he can't quite dodge, so the hit sends him reeling. There's the taste of blood in his mouth as he yanks the foyer carpet from under the intruder, hoping to trip him up or give him an opening to do something.

Great, force field that was showing no signs of wearing out and the man could levitate. This wasn't looking good, but Brandr knew he had to keep at it regardless of how the odds looked. He barely ducked in time to avoid the blast and closed the distance with a charge. Last attempt on the force field. With both hands he jammed the tip of his sword into the force field with the full force of his Asgardian strength behind it. His left arm may have been near useless but there was enough adrenalin and drive in him to block out the pain enough to try this.

If it didn't work, well then...he'd need to go for the other plan.

	The forefield held, barely, and it wavered under the force. The Collector let the force field lower and allowed the momentum to carry Brandr closer to him. The Collector took a backhand swing at Brandr. His armor gave him considerable superhuman strength. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

He didn't have space to dodge this, and had to settle for a wide slash at the same time as the backhand came. Whether it hit or not, the force of the blow sent him crashing into a nearby wall, leaving a sizable dent. And considering Asgardian density...that was quite a hit.

Brandr staggered to his feet, already feeling ribs shift in ways they weren't supposed to with every breath. With his sword still out in front of him, he used the damaged hand to blindly grope for the intercom right by, never taking his eyes off the opponent. "Milady, you must leave. Now." He tried to put enough firmness into his voice to get across the severity of this without causing too much panic.

There was only one duty he had, and he was going to make sure he did it no matter what the cost.

	Well, that was it. Holding up wasn't going to work. Vernique fumbled to press the button as she opened the window, her gun already on maximum and holstered at her shoulder. "'kay" was all she said to Brandr, then shrunk down, opened the window, and led her son out. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

It'd be generous to call what he did a dodge or duck, more like falling forward with excellent timing. Well, if you were going to do anything in a fight, he did think it needed good timing, even things like this. Though he did manage to avoid the actual blast just barely, the force of the explosion when it hit the wall right behind him caused him to miss a step and stagger forward.

Brandr used the bit of momentum to move forward again, coming in low and aiming an attack at the hand that had been used for blasting. Time to see if the force field had been put back up at least.

	The force field had been put back up, but it was considerably weaker. The sword went through the shield and stuck the Collector's armored forearm. The metal blade struck whatever the armor was made out of, but didn't cut all the way through. It did go in a few centimeters. The Collector brought up his other hand and delivered a point blank shot at Brandr. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Fighting was getting more difficult, left side out and his breathing not coming as it should...it was putting him quite off to say the least. But at least the force field was weaker and he could get through it to-

Again, at this distance there was no real dodging, and the best he could do was manage to turn this from a direct middle of the chest hit, into one more on his left side again. The pain causes his vision to blur and he doubles over as he can feel the blast sear flesh all over again, this time deeper due to the first blast. Even coughing up blood, he knows he just needs to stay conscious long enough to give Vernique some time.

He sword hand shoots up with a quick attack to jab into a seam on the left side in the armour, aiming for the one where the shoulder and chest parts should meet for most, hoping to get a good critical attack in and slow the man down.

It was hard to see clearly so he relied more on the feeling of his sword hitting something as an indicator than anything. Which makes the disappearance and hit from behind all that more surprising.

The blast hits him full on and sends the Asgardian crashing to the ground, smoke coming off his wounds. Unable to get up at the moment, his grip tightens on his sword as he grinds his teeth.

One duty. And he was failing.

	Vernique thought two things as she was hit and lost consciousness. One was that she was glad Solver was flying so she wouldn't be dropping him, just on principle. The other was that of course Solver was special. Why did that have to keep becomiong a problem? (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
