Civilian Management: Alpha Flight
Before entering the building he reads his personnel file one more time.  Randy was always more intuitive with these files then he was.  If he didn't feel the ex-MP was the only one he could trust Bryan would never have shared a damn thing with a civilian, even if it wasn't Randy's fault.

Jeez, it was a year ago.  They'd sent his fiancĂ©e into so-called a domestic disturbance call.  It turned out to be a hostage situation and the punk targeted Randy.  Being a generous soul, Randy wrote the whole thing off as a bad coincidence - just something that could happen to any cop, much less one around a highly armed population.  Bryan was more cynical.  He thought Sir - his nickname for his dad - might have hand in it.  Randy, of course, make a joke about Bryan's paranoia at the very idea.  What he hadn't told the love of his life is that Sir offered a command and promotion if he found someone more "military wife" material.

Besides, Randy could have been the next Tony Stark.  The Vinicator suit performed a lot better after a week in their basement.

Well Sir, he thought You wanted me serving my country honorably?  How do you like this?   He walks into his new command, literally wrapped in the flag.  Let the fun begin.

The first person to meet him, right at the door, is Jordan. "Judging by the outfit, you would be the new Vindicator? I'm Jordan Bochs, aka Diamant." he extends a hand.

He glances at the hand for a moment before resuming eye contact. "Were you informed of my arrival, Bochs?"

"Jordan," And the tiny violet-complected girl, coming across the atrium, stopping, and sinking into the floor was likely in some of those files as Melanie Hall, 16-year-old daughter of a former Alpha Flight member and a Swiss nurse with somewhat...irregular immigration paperwork.

Mel, of course, has no information on the man who'd just walked into the room, besides recognizing what he was wearing, so she just stared up nervously and tried to get her feet out of the floor before those nerves became palpable in the air.

A very large lion followed Mel. Alex was on his way to the "Temple". A Christmas Story was coming on in a few minutes and it was one of Alex's favorite movies. He stopped when he saw Mel melt into the floor and saw Jordan talking to a stranger.

//Hey.//

He nods to Jordan before addressing the other two. "Alexander, Hall...I've been assigned to your unit -" He blinks once. "I mean 'hero team -'" He addresses them all. "My name is Lt. Bryan Whittaker. I don't know what you've heard yet, but I'm to take on the identity of Vindicator and to offer you leadership and strategy." Among other things.

He's not sure what to make of the handshakes. Protocol is to wait for a superior to reach out a hand. If it's not offered you do not extend your hand. He's going to have to adjust his brain to civilians. Briefly, he shakes Bochs hand and then the shapechanger's.

Of course they didn't inform the unit of a command change! Why make this easy? "Then this is going to be a bit of a shock. Where is the rest of the team? I should go over this with all of you at the same time."

Lt. Whittaker at least does not have to worry about an unsolicited handshake from Mel. Or...much of unsolicited anything from Mel except blinking.
At the question, though, "Don't know if Mason and Marrina are home yet," she says, still very quietly. "Pretty sure Emily's gone out for a while."

Alex didn't know much about military procedure or protocol, but he did like being treated as a person and not a pet. //They're still out. I haven't caught their scents in awhile.// Alex shifted into the familiar beagle.

The Gang's All Here

Mason headed down the main entry hallway alongside Marrina. As nice as holding her hand was, he decided it probably wasn't the best idea to meet their new field boss like that. There was definitely a little spring in his step.

"Hey bro!" He calls and waves to Jordie once they find the gathering.

Jordan still seems ok with this, other than seeming worried about his team, especially Emily, and how they're taking this. He tries to not add to the tension any more, at least, and settles in at the front.

Alex jumped up and onto the table. He casually walked across and then jumped down into Mel's lap. Maybe having a cat to pet would help calm her even though Alex hated being seen as a pet.

Emily's annoyance at her anger being interrupted by others finally overflows.

"You can all roll over and accept a new leader if you want," she shoots to the rest of the team, "but I think Jordan's been great, and I'm not going to just allow this."

She turns to storm out of the room.

Jordan jumps up to get in her way. "Emily, I understand why you'd be upset. Believe me, I'm honored all of you trusted me enough to let me lead you so far. But we work for the Canadian government and the Department. We get paid, we get missions... they can change the rules on us, and we have to be able to deal with that. I can't ask anyone to like it, but can I ask we at least try and stick together in this and do our job? At least give the Lieutenant a chance."
