Good Food, Good Times
Justin Rhdoes is tired of lying in a hospital bed. His sister (he's still getting used to that) has had a tougher time of it than he has, so he doesn't think it's right for him to stay cooped up in a bed. After showering, getting dressed and "asking" to be allowed some time to himself, Justin takes Tony, his A.I., and decides to go see New York for himself.

He's still awed at how new everything looks here. This isn't a world ravaged by battle and bombs, and the people walk around here without a care in the world for their safety. Justin's awed by all of it, never having seen this many people in a single place that weren't hiding for their lives. After several blocks of walking, though, Justin feels fatigue set in. He curses his weak heart for the millionth time, and decides that food and drink are in order, since all he's eaten is infirmary food over the last week. He's got a bit of money as well, a gift from Rhodey.

He still doesn't know if the man likes the idea of having a son, and he still hasn't meet Miss Potts, his mother.

"Tony, locate nearest restaurant. I want a burrito." he says. He hasn't had a burrito in months.

Minutes later, he's in line at a place called Chipotle, trying to decide if he wants steak or pork.

He's tempted to order both.

Emma could call all day if she wanted to but Chris wasn't answering the phone. She'd actually smashed the phone to smithereens twice already only to feel a bit guilty about it and weave it back together. Just because she avoided her mother's calls didn't mean she avoided everyone else's.

Not like her phone rang much anyway.

Her roommate was bent on an anti-Chris PR campaign in the mansion. It hadn't taken long for her to figure that out and while no one said anything to her negatively she couldn't help but feel a little isolated. Maybe she was just overly sensitive to feeling like an outsider, but the feeling was there. And it was real enough for her that she knew she just wanted to get out.

In the city a burrito was in order. Behold, Chipotle.

The line was short enough that Chris wasn't irritated by waiting, even when the guy in front of her seemed to have some difficulty deciding on what he wanted but it was still busy. He was cute this guy, she mused and she offered a friendly-enough smile. Well, friendly for her.

"Hi, I'd like a vegetarian burrito. Black beans." She went through the line and got things just as she liked them: corn salsa, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, guac. She ordered some chips and guac, too. It all just sounded good and she HAD trained earlier. She had earned it.

Of course just as the guy in front of her had reached the register the manager came up and tried to do something with the register. Christina rolled her eyes but held her tongue, attempting to be patient. The cute guy paid. Then she got to pay and take her burrito to a table.

Cutting it with a knife (because she couldn't bite into it and look graceful) she stopped. Meat.

"What the hell?"

Justin sat down and was readying himself to enjoy his burrito, and readied himself to take a bite when her heard the girl from the line.

He missed the burrito and actually dropped back onto the plate, where it broke open slightly to reveal black beans, hated guacamole...and not a hint of meat.

"Wow, I almost ate that." he says, trying to hide his disgust. He remembers hearing the woman behind him order guac on her burrito and...

"Excuse me, Miss? I think I have your food, which means you probably have mine." he says. He offers a smile as an afterthought, because he's not sure this woman is friendly. He didn't see her looking at him, so he doesn't know.

"Would you like to trade?" he asks.

Chris looked up from her abomination burrito to see the cute guy from line's equally as cute eyes. Damn. And he had her burrito. She smiled at him and laughed, slightly.

"I would indeed. You're the meat-eater, right?" She starts to hand him her basket when she notices the table he was at a moment before was snatched up. "Um, looks like you lost your seat. You...maybe want to share my table?"

It was only nice. He was restoring her rightful meal to her.

He sees his table taken and that he has no other choice.

"One would almost think you planned that, Miss." Justin says with smile, sitting down to join her.

A voice speaks up inside Justin's head.

"Justin, the odds of her doing so are 1, 293, 219 to 1. It's illogical that she planned it, though she passes for what most men would call attractive.

Your increased blood flow and heart rate lend credence to my assertions." Tony says.

"You find her attractive." the AI finishes it's analysis.

It's going to be a long day. Justin thinks to himself.

As he sits, two things happen. First, she feels the familiar twinge at the base of her neck when she's around advanced tech. It's a pleasant feeling for her, but she doesn't see anything cool. The second thing is that she hears what's going on in his head. And it amuses her.

"Increased bloodflow, huh?" She grins at him before taking a bite of her food, chewing a moment before speaking again. "I'm sorry. That was rude of me. I'm a telepath. Kinda. And no, I didn't plan this. Your...friend is right."

It wasn't human, whatever was running analysis.

"Christina Frost." She offered her hand.

Justin blinks stupidly as she repeats Tony's words. He realizes what she is before she mentions it.

"Wow, this is not my day, is it?" he says.

Don't stand there gaping, boy, introduce yourself.

"Justin Rhodes. Nice to meet you." he says, taking the hand and giving it a firm shake.

"Please ignore the other voice in my head. I do." he says sardonically.

Yep, you do. And it lands you in the hospital. Maybe this girl can upload some etiquette software directly in your mind, Justin, since you seem to be lacking. You haven't introduced us yet.

"And I don't plan to." he says, trying to keep his attention on Christina.

She laughs a little, warmly.

"I'm actually going to actively try not to read your mind at all, Justin. It's kind of rude and frankly, it's my mom's thing." On the table, Chris' phone started vibrating. "Speaking of my mother..."

Chris touched one finger to the screen and there was both a visible and audible zap and then the phone died. She smiled at Justin.

"Technopathy is my primary thing and I think your etiquette is just fine. And, for the record? I think you're attractive, too. Especially since you brought me my burrito. I love these things, I just can't do meat."

Justin couldn't believe what Tony just said and hoped that Christina had chosen that moment to start actively NOT reading his mind. Did Goddard upload something into him? Did he start reading some men's magazine?

"Technopathy? That's amazing! There's a lot that can be done with just a few liberal applications of that ability." he said his mind racing.

His mind stopped racing when she said he was attractive, but something else started to. He wasn't used to anyone so forward, and she would be able to tell from the traffic in his head.

But she would also know the feeling was mutual.

"Ahem. Well, thank you, Christina. You're pretty attractive yourself." he says. The phone rings and he looks at it.

"Don't you think you should answer that? Your mother might need you." he says.

Christina heard Tony. She just chose to ignore him.

"My mother never needs me, Justin. You'd have to know my Mom. In short, I was an unwanted child, grew up being reminded of that, and I left home at 18 to find my own way despite my mother being the infamous Emma Frost. If something is important enough, she'll call the school or send someone after me. Usually she just calls to criticize and remind me that I'm not my little sister, who is pretty awesome. Really, it's okay."

She put the broken phone into her purse. She had noticed that his eyes lit up a bit at the discussion of technopathy so she decided to pursue that line of conversation.

"And if someone can do much with just a few liberal applications, think of the things that can be accomplished with focus and detail! Like your watch, for example. It's already a nice watch, but with a little bit of effort...you could have a damn supercomputer to exceed the best in the world on your wrist in minutes. If you want me to, I could do it while you eat."

She grinned.

"Or fix your mouthy friend."

Justin blinked again.

"Emma Frost...is your mother?" Justin says quizzically. He doesn't know the Emma Frost of this universe, but the Emma Frost he knew was a hero. She saved a lot of people, including him.

"You can really do something with a watch? Okay, this I've to see." he says, taking off his watch.

"Don't worry about Tony. He's getting deactivated tonight." Justin says.

"Yeah. Emma Frost is my Mom. I know. I look nothing like her. Except for the hair. I have her real hair color."

She reaches out and takes his watch when offered, moving her food aside and placing the watch on the table. Chris looks at it for a moment and one could all but see the wheels turning in her mind.

"Oh yeah, this will be easy. Mind if I put my phone number in the contact list I'm gonna build you? You'll be able to use your watch as a cell phone when I'm done."

She winked at him and rested her fingertips on the face of the watch. She was already weaving.

Whatever Justin was expecting, it wasn't this. The car was amazing.

"Uh...yeah, sure." he says, moving to get into the car.

"Nice car." he says, looking around, trying to figure out the number of cylinders by listening. It was trick Uncle Tony taught him years ago, when they used to work on classic cars together. It was one of the most relaxing things ever.

"Oh, I left Tony at home tonight. Just us." he says, trying to keep himself from touching anything.

"Thank you. I haven't had her long, but I love her. I love how she sounds. If it wouldn't kill me I'd just sit in the garage with the engine on and listen to her purr."

She glanced over at Justin and smiled.

"Good. I want to date you, not Tony. Relax, Justin. Cars are meant to be enjoyed. So. What kind of food do you like? I personally was thinking steak."

Justin smiles.

"Steak sounds great." he says. Did she just says she wants to date me? Does she mean regularly or just tonight?

Granted, he wouldn't mind getting to know her more, but there wasn't much sense in getting too far in this. When he went back home, she wouldn't see him again, and that would be cruel of him.

"So, is it dinner first, then music? Or music first, then dinner?" he asks.

"Dinner first, then music. It's easier to enjoy music with a satisfied appetite." She smiles, shifts gears and starts navigating the city in the car. "I made reservations for us at the Capital."

Aka the most exclusive steakhouse in New York.

Justin should be awed by Capital, but he doesn't know what it is, so his reaction might be mistaken for non-enthusiasm.

"Capital? Is it good?" he asks. "Sorry, I'm not from around here, and I'm still learning about things."

Her next sentence surprises him some, but he smiles.

"You seem pretty cool, Christina. I'm surprised you'd ask a guy you just met, but why not?" he asks.

"Well, they generally have a year-long wait for reservations so...yes. I don't usually ask out strangers, actually. I surprised myself to be honest. I'm usually more reserved. I don't know. I guess I was just feeling adventurous. Maybe I'll end up with a friend out of my boldness."

Or more. It was odd to her; she had developed a small bit of a crush in just over a few hours. On a stranger. God help her.
