The Start of a War

Rose Red met with each group individually to tell them what she expected of them for their upcoming attack. The point of these attacks was not to win them and destroy everything though they could if they wanted she didn’t care as long as civilians were kept out of it. The point was too implicit the Kingpin in these attacks and that was all that they really needed to accomplish. The other thing she instructed them to do was if the fight got bad and it looked like they were to lose they were to make a retreat as fast as they could and if they got caught she would have them killed.

"Right behind you." In a more roundabout way, jumping a few more roofs to maneuver into leap through the window, billy club at the ready.

Crosshairs is still inside the room, taking down the operation's men in ridiculously unnecessarily acrobatic fashion. She's been shot a couple times, but, of course, so what? Its healing. Currently she's somersaulting along a table, vaulting off a guy with a shotgun, shooting him while she's in mid-air, and coming down in an axe kick on another thug, ending up facing Jack.

"Red, we have company."

The Hood notices their new guest and the billy clubs he has at the ready. Great.

"Why is it that every time someone exercises their right to bear arms, some idiot shows up determined to stop it?" Melissa says in that other-worldly voice.

"Crosshairs, down!" the Hood says, taking aim at Jack.

"Idiot?" Kal asked with a raised brow. The she saw the gun aimed at Jack. A quick telekinetic yank on the gun would solve that problem.

"Now let's try this again without the name calling."

"Whatever happened to the banter?" Jack asked. "The kind that shows a good villain can think without their little brain? By the way, thanks for taking that little brain away."

Crosshairs blinks. "Banter? Well, see, usually when the banter starts, the bosses are all 'Shut up Corsshairs, pay attention to the mission, Crosshairs, questioning your allies' sexual identities and lineage doesn't earn you any friends. I tell you, where is a minion supposed to find a good evil mastermind these day..."

She pauses as one of the thugs shoots her in the back. She tumbles forward, but staggers back to her feet, aiming and firing her gun behind her without looking, dropping the thug while others are already running between the two mercs and the hero arrival.

"See? That's where the banter went. You start trying to hold a conversation with your idealogical counterpoints, and someone fucking shoots you in the back. No class."

The Hood is slightly annoyed at her guns being taken away, so rather than recall them back to her, she raises at hand at Kalypso.

"Ventas Servitas." she murmurs.

A lance of invisible force will head toward Kalypso, attempting to knock her down. The Hood looks to Crosshairs.

"Time to bail?" she asks.

Kal was knocked down and not happy. Her eyes started to glow along with her hands. She reached out with some telekinesis and grabbed the hooded figure.

"Bailing might have to wait a bit," Jack said. "My girl here doesn't like getting knocked and she can have something of a temper. But I see what you mean about the no class part. It's just rude." He had no weapons to counteract firearms, but he was good at dodging.

Which he did, getting closer to Crosshairs. He had to if his billy clubs were to have any effect. "What's the big deal here anyway?"

Crosshairs smiles, shifting into better close combat stance. "The Kingpin wanted a message sent to lieutenants starting to question his orders. We're the delivery service." she replies, planting the information needed to get the heroes looking at the Kingpin.

"Speaking of messages and bailing, I'm afraid I have some more bad news for your girlfriend." she replies, feinting a bit and testing Jack's reactions.

"You really, really shouldn't have done that." the Hood says, beginning to murmur under her breath.

She really hopes Crosshairs has something planned, before she has to pull out The Big Guns.

Time to pull out all the stops. Kal hated doing this, but she had to. She reached into both of their minds to order them to put down their weapons and walk away.

Jack watched Crosshairs, shifting slightly with her but not taking the bait. Yet. This game had been a favorite of his mother's. "Not as much bad news as I have for your friend."

Kelly grins at the telepathic attempt. Kal will find the assassin's mind difficult to grasp, like trying to grab a handful of water.

"No? How about... I'm carrying a detonator for the bombs I planted on my way in, and your girlfriend can't read my mind to find out where they are. We've done our jobs - but we need our stuff, and you get nothing you can trace. Let my girl go and back out the opposite way slowly, and I'll set the detonator down on that table and leave the building standing - and you can get medical help for anyone still breathing after counting slowly to twenty. Either of you makes one more move, and, well, I'll survive, your girlfriend probably will, my girl might... but you'd better develop super speed fast, and all these guys and anyone working late on the upper floors, plus any bystanders too close... well, they're street pizza. Deal?"

The Hood is trying her best to fight the mental assault but she's not able to get her shields up fast enough. Kal will register her shock at Crosshairs' words about the bomb.

Clearly, Melissa was not in on the bomb idea.

"If I were you two, I'd do what she says." Hood grunts.

Convince her to go. Now. Kal ordered the girl she could reach.

"Fine. Go. Now." Kal could care less if the bombs blew if it were just here. She would survive it without a problem. She knew Jack wouldn't survive a blast and she wasn't sure she could get a TK field up fast enough.

"Make...with the letting go and we're gone." Hood says.

If Kal lets her go, she'll back away, recalling her guns to her hands and holstering them, following the agreement to back out the door.

"Here you go." Crosshairs offers, setting a black box with buttons down on a table near the window she came in through, and leaping out the window to land with a roll, already moving as she hits the ground, only making sure the Hood is out before she goes.

She's true to her word to a point. Should the heroes look around, there's no bomb. And the detonator is a TV remote. Pays to have a way out when you can't be mind read, and she figured the heroes would believe there were bombs, even if the whole point, from the girls' perspective was to leave plenty of people alive to deliver the message. Most of the thugs are even alive, even if they'll need bullets removed from all sorts of uncomfortable but non-lethal parts of their anatomy.

He looked from the remote in his hand to the box. This didn't feel right at all, but they couldn't stay around puzzling out why two villains would bring in a fake bomb and shoot up an office building. He could do that in his head.

He tucked the remote in a pocket. It had the girl's scent and he didn't want to forget that just yet.

"Let's go."
