Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

In fifteen minutes...

Fifteen minutes was enough time to make quick and dirty takedowns if you weren't worried about broken skulls or the possibility of leaving the targets as oversized door stops. Which Sammy wasn't.

Four men sprawled unconscious on the floor, wrists and ankles cuffed with zip strips. One of them was the man she'd found holding a gun on Mrs. Landon. He might have more bruises about the head and neck than the others, delivered with the butt of her Glock as a form of stress release.

The fifth found himself in an uncomfortable sitting position on the floor against the wall, arms cuffed behind him. Sammy left him conscious to answer some questions, but so far he wasn't being cooperative.

She used more of her seconds to check the house without Jessica's interference and found no one else. Once the basics were secured, she called Tech's phone to let him know it was okay to come in.

Seven minutes into Tech's waiting, something odd happened. Even Sammy would hear the cars pull up outside, and Tech wondered if Fury had called in back-up from inside, just in case.

Of course, the agents busting Savoy could get here in the time allotted if they drove quickly, but why would Fury tell him to wait out here and call for back-up if she'd just planned on doing it herself...

unless she wasn't calling for back-up, so much as people to come and take him in?

When he hears men yelling in Spanish and the sounds of weapons, however, Tech turns to look back at the cars in question. Two black Sedans, five men, all Hispanic. One of them, another man with several body tattoos, wearing a wife-beater and jeans, Tech recognizes immediately. He starts trying dial Alice's number to have her get people here immediately, but when gunfire shatters the window of the car, Tech drops the phone as he ducks for cover.

"GET OUT OF THE FUCKING CAR!" someone yells and Tech can hear a gun being cocked over his head. Swearing to himself, he waits until the door is opened for him, and he steps out of the car.

"Start walkin' to the house, puto." the same man says, marching Tech around the vehicle to face the man in the wife-beater.

Manny Ruiz looks at Tech, pulling a switchblade from his pocket. His men fan out to look around the area for anyone else he might have brought.

Ruiz looks at Tech and smiles. "Hey there, Jason." he says in accented English.

"Don't look so tough without your big brother around to protect you. I told Jacob and Savoy that they were gonna pay for what they did to Javier. Heard you were in town from that little waitress bitch at that bar. She wasn't happy to see you, but I really am. Which is why we have a welcoming party waitin' for you inside.

Hope you don't mind we brought that sweet old Granny of yours and Jake's squeeze to join us. Thought you'd like to keep in the family, ese." Ruiz says, before nodding to the men, who start directing him toward the house.

Tech keeps his mouth shut and hopes Fury didn't get surprised by those guys. But he does rue his current luck. It felt like very psycho in the Tri-State area knew he was home and wanted to come visit.

	The incoming vehicles were loud enough to get Sammy's attention, and the gunshot definitely did. She gave up on the cuffed man and smacked him hard with her gun. He slid sideways and landed with a thump against the floor. She motioned Mrs. Landon and Jessica to stay where they were and to keep quiet, and she went to stand out of sight of the front door. 	Tech is marched through the front door first, with his hands behind his head. He's forced by a larger burly type to go into the living room, and three other men will enter behind him. They are all wearing black shirts and blue jeans with black boots and carrying some manner of gun or knife. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Ruiz enters last, playing with the switchblade as he moves into look at the house scene before him. Fury will note that Ruiz looks exactly like the fifth man she recently knocked out, the one who who had the gun on Gran.

"Miguel! Oye, Vato! Come on, we gotta take the nerd and go!" he yells.

When he doesn't get a response, he steps into the living room and sees that the five guys he sent in to grab the old lady and Jake's woman are in various states of unconsciousness. He rushes over to the fifth guy, Miguel, and starts to check him, speaking in worried, rapid-fire Spanish to him.

"Miguel, who did this, amigo? Who did this?!" he yells.

Sammy slipped into a temporal pause.

Ruiz will find the four men that entered with him are disarmed and unconscious on the floor around Tech. The switchblade he casually played entering the house will be in Sammy's free hand when she 'appears' between Ruiz and Tech. Her Glock is aimed for his head.

"I did it," she said quietly. "Have a seat next to your friend and we'll wait for the authorities. Tech, check on your grandmother and Jessica."

To Manny Ruiz, everything happened so fast that he didn't realize his knife was gone until the gun was at the back of his head. He turned around and tried to call the boys to get this bitch who'd snuck up on him, but they were all out cold, too.

"Fuck you, bitch! You don't know who you're messin' with. Landon, you better call her off, or next time I'll just smoke your Granny's house with her inside of it! How you like that?" he yells.

Tech is about to go break Ruiz's face when Jessica looks screams.

"Jason! Call an ambulance! Ah think...Ah think Gran's havin' a heart attack!" she says. Tech immediately goes for the phone at the other end of the living room near the TV and dials 911.

He looks over at Gran and sees that she's clutching her chest. He tries to remember to stay calm long enough to tell the dispatcher their location and to call the cops as well to get Ruiz's people.

With Tech to take care of calling for help, Sammy leaned in a little closer to Ruiz, still speaking quietly, still out of his reach. Any little twitch and she'd fire on him.

"The bitch will hold you personally responsible if anything happen to Mrs. Landon or Jessica, or their homes. Picture it, you could be anywhere, any time, and you won't see me coming. No matter where you are, I'll find you. Do you need convincing of this fact?"

"Bitch, you don't scare me." he says, adding in a few choice phrases in Spanish to emphasize just how scary he doesn't find her. If she understands Spanish at all, he's also making some very lewd comments about certain parts of her body.

"You ain't nobody, bitch. Savoy can hire all the people he wants, but he's gonna die, and so is Jake Landon and his family. Maybe tonight, even, for Jakey-Boy." Manny smiles.

	"Savoy didn't hire me and I don't give a merry damn if he lives or dies. I just like good waffles." She smiled thinly. She didn't need to understand the language to know what he said. His tone of voice did all that for him. "This is how I know you're not in charge. Somebody in charge wouldn't make the mistake of dismissing me after seeing nine unconscious bodies." Tech hears Ruiz's words and leaves the room. Moment's later, he returns with a Glock pistol, onto which begins screwing a silencer.

He then points the gun at Ruiz's head.

"If not for my standing here, Ruiz, you'd probably be dead right now. Ah don't care what you do to Savoy, but Jake will kill whoever you send after him. Javier was a monster and he got what he deserved. You kill an undercover agent, that's practically a death sentence.

But if mah Gran dies because of you, don't worry about the woman in front of you. Worry about the guy that make sure any piece of equipment you ever use can malfunction on you. Worry about the guy who could steer your car or plane into a ditch with you in it.

Now when you get out, you tell your old man that the Landons are off-limits, but that we're decent people and we don't want anymore trouble from your kind." Tech says, glaring at the man.

	Ruiz looks at Tech, clearly unimpressed by the gun. "Just like her, you ain't got no balls. Both of you--" Tech fires the silenced weapon and shots Ruiz in the kneecap. The man screams loudly, then slumps over, clutching his knee and cursing in Spanish. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Sorry, Manny. Were you sayin' something? I missed it over the sounds of the sirens." Tech says, putting the away behind his back.

The sounds of sirens get louder and closer, and Tech leaves the room again. He returns a few minutes later.

"The remote isn't here, Fury. I think Savoy has it, so we'll need to get it from him. You can go after him if you want, but I'm gonna get Gran and Jess to the hospital before I do anything else." he says.

She sighed and straightened. "You get them to the hospital and I'll handle things here. S.H.I.E.L.D. will want to talk to these guys and I might as well make sure they get the opportunity."

The cussing was getting on her nerves. She hit Ruiz in the head with her Glock. He slumped to the floor. "For future reference, Tech, I'm team leader and I get to shoot the bad guys. You're the specialist."

"Well, we've got to mix it up every now and then or we'll get predictable, Fury. Don't worry, Ah'll make you a brand-new submachine gun when we get back to the helicarrier with some extra clips to make up for this whole thing not being what it was supposed to." Tech says.

When the paramedics pull up, they take Gran first and get her to the hospital. Another ambulance is called for Ruiz, who was shot in the leg, and the police question Fury, as Tech is allowed to go with his grandmother and Jess.

Sammy sat on the front porch steps of Mrs. Landon's house waiting for Tech to call for a ride or find a way back. Did Bon Temps have cab service?

She'd been inside long enough to free more innocent coffee beans and drink it while she waited, made a preliminary report to S.H.I.E.L.D., and ordered to report for a more thorough debriefing at the directorate when she returned to the New York. The police only received the basic information, but it seemed that mob activity wasn't all that uncommon in this neck of the country and while she might be called back to repeat her story, she clearly had nothing to do with it. Her S.H.I.E.L.D. ID said so.

All the while, she thought about what she'd learned that day.

Tech wasn't able to get a cab, but several members of the Bon Temps community reached out when it was heard that Evelyn Landon had fallen ill. No less than four people had volunteered to watch over her and Jess once they'd arrived. Gran was lucky to have gotten there so fast and she wasn't in danger, but she hadn't awoken yet.

Millie Gotten said she'd call if there was any change.

Alcee Vernon offered Jason a ride home, though Tech asked him to stop at the store on the way back.

Eventually, Tech arrives and gets out of the truck with a case of beer and a couple of other bags. Alcee tells him not to worry about repayment and to take care of himself. Upon seeing Fury on the porch, Tech looks at her and holds up one of the bags.

"Chinese take-out if you want it. Beer, too." he says, leading the way inside the house.
