Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

"Veil developed a sense of humor?" Jason asks, clearly surprised. Okay, he didn't build that into the programming...did he?

Jason thinks about that as he gives Legion the coordinates to his grandmother's house.

"Evasive actions only, do not engage hostile targets unless given direct command to do so. Engage stealth mode in populated areas if unavoidable, other wise, avoid contact with all organic beings." Jason commands.

	"Oh my god," Sammy breathed, not for the first time in the last few days. "You don't disappoint, Jason." She closed the lids on the cases she filled and lifted one experimentally. "We need to get this stuff loaded and I need to adjust the guard's log. He should see you leave, but I need to take anything he writes down to indicate you were here." "Oh Sammy, wait a sec. You're goin' about that the hard way." Jason says. He goes to another of the cases, closes it, and secures it fast. Once that's done, he presses a red button in center of the silver case.

The metallic case folds in upon itself several times, until it is a palm-sized cube.

"Enough of these, and you could pack up a warehouse, hide it and no one would be the wiser. Savoy thought it would be funny to hide things in plain sight. These let us do that." Jason says, lifting the much lighter cube.

"Water-proof and a highly durable. Couldn't get ahold of weapons grade vibranium, otherwise, they might be indestructable, too. But have a few people carry a couple of these and you could arm a whole squad in the field, or they could keep all of their possessions and gear in a safe place while on the move." Jason says, heading to the truck.

"Ah've got to turn all the defenses back on. Can you start the car?" he asks.

She stared after him for a long second. Cubes. Cubes that folded contents down so small you could transport a whole warehouse. And this was the first he'd said of it.

All that planning to get them back to New York with his inventory, and he condensed four cases down to cubes. The only saving thought she had was that they couldn't have gotten onto a commercial flight with the cubes without having to declare the contents.

Sh did as asked and climbed in to get the SUV started. The engine rumbled to life and she waited for him to rearm the system.

Minutes later, the systems were re-armed and Legion was gone. Jason hopped back into the truck and slid the remote in his pocket.

"Before you ask, the reason the cases didn't come up is that the four you see are the only four Ah'm in possession of. Savoy took several of the others and sent 'em out elsewhere. Ah had enough to get a few things from here if we wanted.

Didn't want to tell you we could take everything when we couldn't." he says.

"Ah hope all of this wasn't too weird for you." Jason says.

Sammy climbed over the center console. It was easier than getting out and going around.

The guard seemed a little dazed when she checked on him. He waved back at Jason, and Sammy double checked to make sure nothing was written down. She also checked the desk to see if the guard had a little something to ward off the night chill. She found a half empty bottle and used her shirt tail to take it out and set it on the desk.

She caught up to the SUV a half a block away, 'suddenly' appearing the vehicle with a sigh, relaxing back against the seat. "How are you doing there? Want me to drive?"

	When Sammy arrives, Jason manages to not jump as high as last time. He smiles at her and then relaxes enough to drive. He sees her relax and worries a little, the expression evident in his face. 	"Ah suspect we will, Sam. Ah suspect that we will." Jason agrees with a chuckle. He drives them home inside half-an-hour, grabbing the cubes after Sam gets out of the car. 	"Make it a double." She bent over the table, looking at the cubes. If she hadn't seen it happen, she wouldn't believe she'd loaded it with automatic weapons. She poked at it, moving it along the table top. It would fit in her hand easily. She could carry a dozen and they'd weigh no more than her daily backpack load. "With extra syrup." 	"Done and done, Fury." Jason says. By now, calling her Sam, Sammy and Fury were all interchangeable for him. He gets two bowls and scoops up the ice cream for her and getting the syrup she requests. "If you have other questions, Ah can try to answer them, based on everything Ah remember. Sam, my power manifested when Ah was thirteen years old. Ah've put together so much stuff since then that it seems like another person's lifetime ago." he tells her.

"Ah've only started truly refinin' things in the last few years. When Ah started, Ah was doin' slapdash repairs and barely finished work. Things are a great deal more polished and field ready these days, but Ah never know what idea is gonna strike me next." Jason says.

A half a million dollars. Half. Million. It was a throwaway comment, and he answered it.

"Since the warehouses came up, a complete surprise to begin with, you've been feeding me bits and pieces of information about them, what they contain, how they're secured. Each piece takes me in a direction that alters with the next until I'm running in a circle and you're patiently waiting for me to stop."

She took a bite of ice cream. The cool sweetness helped. "I'm not angry, I'm not disappointed. What I think is that you and I have to work on our communication."

"Ah'm sorry if it seems that way, Sam. Ah have spent the last ten years of my life working for an organization that specializes in hiding and covering up information to the best of my ability. It's bred some habits in me that are hard to shake. My brother is professional hitman, which necessitated even further practice at deceit." Jason says, eating a bit of ice cream.

"Rather than go into that, Ah'll ask the most simple question Ah can. What can Ah do to improve our communication?" he asks.

	Jason takes a deep breath. He didn't think about her worries and how the loss of Qamar factored into everything she did and how she carried herself. He sighs and nods. 	She wasn't going to tell him it was okay or coddle him. She didn't think he'd appreciate it, and it would dilute everything they'd managed to do already. It wasn't okay, but they survived.
