Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

	"Alice and I got to ski Aspen, Vail and Tahoe when we growing up, but my favorite place is the Aosta Valley in the Italian Alps. Mom took me there a few times. Sammy used the turner to cut the omelet across the middle and serve it to Jason.

"My parents tried hard, but family vacations with both of them weren't going to happen, so Mom tried to take me to a lot of different places. When I got to be older, Alice came with us so I'd have somebody to giggle with. We skied, snorkeled, zip lined, hiked, rode camels, ate all kinds of local foods together all over the world. Mom took us on safaris, and to high tea at the Ritz in London. Incidentally, high tea was a lot scarier than boiled tea in the bush."

Jason nods as Sam explains her vacations to him, and recalls some of his own.

"Grandpa used to take Jake and Ah fishin' every Sunday when we first came to live with them. Sometimes, we'd mix in a little huntin' or just some shootin' practice. After he died, most of our energy went into helpin' Gran, but that pond was my salvation. Ah could just go there when Ah needed some time away that Ah didn't want to spend in the lab." he says, taking a bit of his omelet.

"Gran wasn't able to take us on vacations, really, but she did impress upon us that we know whee we come from. We went to Civil War and World War II museums when we could. She preferred that we didn't go to Mardi Gras, but everyone has to experience that at least once, right?" he asks, chuckling. His own experience wasn't as wild that of others, but it was still a good time.

"Once we started makin' all that money, Ah promised myself Ah'd go see a little bit more of the world every year. Someday, Ah'll have to check out one of those California beaches and see if they're as good as people say." he says, enjoying a piece of bacon.

"Not so much for S.H.I.E.L.D. unless something is brewing, but on the diplomatic side it does. SHIELD provides security to diplomats and other persons of interest as a neutral third party. It's the parties, balls, social functions, that sort of thing. Mom and Dad get invitations to a lot of it because they're public figures. I'm invited to some."

She paused to look at him with a slight smirk before she dipped her bacon in her coffee. "Eggnog is all right, but I drink it without the alcohol."

"Oh, well that's good. Will you...be needing a companion to any of these events? Ah mean, Ah'm sure your dad probably has a squad of agents dedicated to such an endeavor already. But if you find that all of them are sick or unable to go or you'd simply like a change of pace, Ah might be able to suggest someone you could pass an evening with." he says.

"Alcohol is the only thing that makes that stuff tolerable, if Ah choose to drink it. Ah prefer hot apple cider." he says.

"Ah may have to see if Ah can get drunk enough to want a tattoo, just to see if your equation works elsewhere." Jason chuckles.

However, his expression becomes solemn at her second question.

"Sammy Fury, Ah would like to take you out on a proper date when we return to New York. If you find that date agreeable, Ah would like to accompany you to one of these events that you get invited to around the holidays." Jason says.

"Will you let me call upon you?" he asks.

"Well, to be completely fair...we were in close proximity with the first two times and...you were pretending to be my girl for my safety. Ah had to ask so that we both know this is a real date. Now, since we'll be on your home turf, Ah can strong arm the locals into respectin' you and givin' us our space...though New York is a far cry from Bon Temps." Jason says, considering a few things he'll need for their date, besides reservations to a restaurant.

"Ah may need to bring a weapon or two to ensure Ah am prepared to defend your honor when the first challenge appears." Jason says.

And Ah'll even make a couple for you as well. Then you'll have a selection to go with your dress and earrings, too." Jason says, this idea suddenly taking hold in his mind. Why hadn't he thought of this before? There might be a whole market for this sort of thing, waiting to be tapped!

"You, by the way, are a genius." Jason smiles brightly at Sammy.

Fascinated, Sammy watched the play of thoughts across his face as he worked through his train of thought at lightning speed. He really came alive when he was thinking and talking about something he was passionately interested in.

Then the focus landed on her. "Thank you. I always suspected, but you are the first to realize it. What genius thing did I do this time?"

"You are partially responsible for the phenomenon that will be called 'Date Night Artillery'." Jason says.

"Weapons that can be kept on one's person for all situations, especially during dates and such. Why worry about being unprepared if someone tries to mug you during your date when you can be prepared for the attempt?" he asks rhetorically his eyes lighting up.

"Besides, who knows how enamored one's date might be when they know that you went the extra mile to make sure their honor would not be besmirched during a time of bonding." Jason says. The money portion of this whole thing didn't factor into this decision one bit.

The idea of Sammy asking him which gun she should put in her thigh holster, however...

Note to self: If Fury does not have a thigh-holster, get her one asap.

"Hm. But there has to be an appeal to the millions of couples that are in committed relationships who want to be stylish in addition to being protected." Jason says. He thinks about that as he chews on his food.

"It should also be accessible to the women who like to date, but can't because of various life issues. You would make a great spokeswoman for the company if you, you know, were into that sort of thing." Jason tells her.

"Ah suppose you'll just have to settle for being my official Product and Quality Control Manager. Bonuses include access to all weapons made, extra clips, and aesthetic approvals." Jason says.
