The more things change...
The Exiles all find themselves transported from the desert to... well, another part of the desert.

In the middle of this flat area, however, an area of tiled floor sits, with a chalkboard set up on one edge. And all the Exiles sit in old-style school desks, mostly a little too small for them, wedged in however much needed.
A balding man stands by the chalkboard, waiting patiently for everyone to settle in and pay him heed after the sudden change of surrounds.

"Welcome... or welcome back, as the case may be. Coffee? Muffins?"

"How 'bout a bloody explanation, mate?" Quinn said. He stood there and folded his arms across his chest.

That was enough.

Blink stood. "I'm through with this. Send me back to where I was!"

"Blink, you of all people should realize I can't do that. You saved that reality, now its time to get back to work."

"But ...Why? Why us?" It was an honest question. She wanted to know why they were here.

"I know we're all heroes in our own right but this isn't exactly the best recruitment ever." In fact it was terrible.

"Good man. And the answer comes in two parts - one, for one reason or another, you'll do the job necessary to restore your reality. There has been some trouble with past agents on that score. But more importantly, you're what was available. When realities fall apart, not everything is immediately salvageable. For the most part, you were all a focal point for your realities, a point around which things changed, temporally speaking, and thus some part of the original you survived the events that took your realities apart enough to be salvaged and brought here in a recognizeable state. For example, Quinn is a Captain Britain... one of the rare beings who exists in every reality in one way or another, under a variety of names, often appended with Braddock, for some reason. That gave him enough 'importance', temporally speaking, to salvage when his reality became unhinged."

Joe arched an eyebrow. The Power Prism set into his glove was pulsing slightly with a faint light. The Prism wasn't sentient by any means, but it did occasionally react to other energy sources or strange goings on.

"So... wait, something's happening to our own realities?"

"Happened, past tense. There's a lot of physics and big words involved in what's happening, so for simplicity's sake, let's start with the basics... There has been a disruption in the timestream. Because eventually, all dimensions are interconnected, when one got disrupted, it had a ripple effect through many others, and threatens to destroy almost everything. In the process, history as you know it didn't happen the way you remember, and each of you became unhinged in time, but with one exception out of the seven of you, you were central enough to the 'right' history in your time that I was able to save you and bring you here. Because you're the last chances the timestream has."

Quinn knew about the different dimensions being connected. His father and mother had told him stories of the Multiverse and Otherworld. This didn't make sense. Roma or Merlin would have done something and or contacted his father and the Captain Britain Corps if so much damage to the tapestry of realities had been done.

"I'm not Captain Britain," he said. "That's my father and if you need someone to go save all these realities, you should be talking to him and the rest of the Captain Britain Corps."

Blink very much wanted to scream. Instead she slammed her head down on her desk and counted backwards to ten.

Trying to kill the Timebroker was not a good way to start this go around. Besides, she needed to keep it together for her new team mates.

"Actually, yes you are. You see, when the ripple in the timestream hit your universe... well, at one point, Excalibur fought the Juggernaut. Repeatedly, actually, but this was the first time. In almost every reality, the 'fight' between Captain Britain and the Juggernaut in that meeting was amusingly short. Your father was found two miles away with a splitting headache. However, in this case, Cain Marko was having a particularly bad day. Pieces of your father were found two miles away. One small change, and you were never born, some of the X-Men died trying to help out, Roma was never freed, weak link in the Captain Britain Corps and the Adversary rules your world. I managed to snag you about two seconds before you were magic pixie dust on the wind. So you have an extra risk... if you don't fix things enough to stabilize the timestream around your dimension, your dimension is toast. If you die in the process, there's no hope for your world, as you're the last link they have to the Captain Britan Corps."

Quinn didn't want to hear anymore bullshit. He turned and walked away.

He didn't want to think of everyone he knew and cared about as being dead. His father. His mother. His aunt Betsy. Master Strange. Master Wong. He sighed deeply. How the hell did he find himself in this mess?

"I don't need to listen to this guy tell me about why my universe is messed up." It's all kinda pointless anyway. Either they're successful, or they're not, and they have to assume the guy's telling the truth anyway.
