Headmistress Pendragon smiled at Vinnie "Congratulation Mr. Ciccarelli," she said and proceeded to her next announcement. This one should prove to be interesting.
"As for your homecoming Princesses, there was a tie this year. Congratulations to Miss Abernathy Ford and Miss Adelaide Legaux!" She held the crown before duplicating it. Making them share the title was risky enough but making them share a crown was just asking for trouble.
Abernathy had been telling herself all night that it didn't matter if she won anything. She'd probably been nominated because of the lingering rumors surrounding her fight with Adelaide and it was no big deal. It was just a stupid popularity contest.
Except there was a very tiny part of Abby, a part that smacked of feminine vanity that wanted to win something. Even if it was just some stupid contest and Sunny Garcia was probably going to win because she was the sweetest girl in the whole school (who just so happened to have the worst taste in men, but that was just Abby's opinion).
Abernathy looked to Bobby for help as her name was announced. She had started off the year in god awful trouble and now she was sharing the homecoming crown for princess? With the very same girl she'd gotten into so much trouble over a stupid, grudge filled fight?
Bobby was no help, so she made her up to the stage in shock to accept the pretty, sparkly, girly tiara. She couldn't tell if she was honored or embarrassed or just plain pleased because she could feel Adelaide fuming next to her.
Leon, who'd been ever so pleased to avoid both crowning and thus dancing, held back a drug induced giggle as Abby and Addy's names were called. There was a god, he thought, even as he smirked and turned to look at his date. "You should go dance with you King, M'lady."
Maybe taking pleasure in seeing both of them win was cruel, but so was life in general. Right?
There were no words to describe the rage coursing through Addy's system just then. Not only had she missed out on Homecoming Queen-- the prize-- but she had to share loser's glory with Abernathy Fucking Ford. It wasn't just an insult. It was an insult dipped in mocking and baked in an outer shell of absolute deliberateness. Everyone who hadn't voted for her was officially on her shitlist.
She glared at Leon with the kind of fury that could melt bulletproof glass, and stalked up to the stage for the half-tiara. Pendragon had totally planned this as a 'learn to live with each other' lesson. She forced a smile and waited for someone to address the obvious issue of the court dance.
After handing over the crowns to the girls she congratulated them both and cleared her throat. "Now for the announcement of your 2010 homecoming king," she said. "Keegan Howe!" she held the crown waiting for Keegan to join the others on stage.
Keegan had been standing off to the side, looking up at the stage with his hand in Rowan's while attempting to not look amused at what unfolded already. The girls hated each other with a passion and poor Vinnie was stuck in the middle of it.
He almost wasn't paying attention when the Headmistress continued, watching Adelaide trying not to explode, but his attention turned back just in time to hear his name. Keegan blinked for a moment and smiled, mostly to Rowan, before he went up onto the stage to accept the crown.
She was so excited when Keegan won for Homecoming King. He deserved it, and she was happily thinking excitedly about how she would actually get to dance with the Homecoming King at some point later on when Headmistress made her announcement for Queen.
Rowan stared at the Headmistress blankly. Completely blankly, and without moving at all. It wasn't until Meka nudged her in the back that Rowan made any moves toward the stage. Her mind was in a million places at once. Somehow she managed to not trip over anything or make a fool of herself as she made her way onto the stage to accept her... crown.
"Congratulations Miss Cabot," the Headmistress said placing the crown on Rowan's head. "Your homecoming court!" she announced standing back to show the line of surprised, distraught, and speechless winners. "For the traditional dance, will the King and Queen please make their way to the dance floor?"
He had watched Rowan after her name was announced, a smile immediately on his face as soon as it left Pendragon's mouth. There was no surprise to the fact Rowan was stunned and he prayed silently as she came up that she didn't trip.
Now that the crowning was over, it was time for their dance. Keegan gave the Headmistress a small nod before he took Rowan's hand in his own in a respectable manner for the occasion and led her to the dance floor.
