"Damn velociraptor," she mumbled to herself closing the lid of her DS and putting it in the breast pocket of her flannel. She dug out another cigarette and lit it, leaning back against the tree.

Apple was interested in investigating this new book store so with his ukulele slung over his shoulder he walked through the aisles checking out some of the new merchandise. He wanted to check out the magical creatures section first and foremost, unfortunately for Apple his short attention span backfired on him again and he was distracted by self-stirring cauldrons.

Not paying attention to the people around him he bumped into a freshman he didn't quite recognize. "Whoa, sorry bro," he laughed taking a step back and brushing the other kid's shoulder. "I gotta start paying better attention or something," he grinned.

There was nothing like homemade food. Nothing in the world. Especially when you were Italian, and the food came from your grandmother, who was obviously the world's best cook. Second to her was your mother. This was just the way of things in Vinnie's life, and he loved every moment. He loved being a part of a huge family, loved having so many siblings, loved holidays at home, loved being surrounded by kids and adults at summer bar-b-ques and Christmas parties and the like. Sometimes, yeah it was nice to be away from them and at school where he almost had his own room. But he did miss them sometimes, especially when it got too quiet.

So they sent him food, and things from home that showed that they cared. But mostly food. As his mother put it, "And who knows what sort of things they think are edible at that school of yours? No no no, you get good things from me in the mail. You gotta eat, you're all skin and bones still." Hence the care packages packed with way too much food for him. This time was mostly antipasto things, finger food, and bread. Oh the bread. Vinnie's mother and older cousins made their own bread at home. This time, they put some sort of freshness charm on it so the bread was even still warm when he got it, fresh from the oven. he decided to make himself an al fresco lunch of bread and cheese, olives and mushrooms, some roasted peppers and prosciutto wrapped bread sticks, and eat in the common room. The table now set up with his family's offerings, he sat down to enjoy his lunch.
