Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

"Oh. That." he says simply. "Ah suppose Ah mislead you, then. Ah'd forgotten about it, but maybe there are another couple of surprises left." Jason says.

He has no idea what these items are, and he's pretty sure he doesn't want to, either. He'd offer to let Sammy have them for her own information, but he'd promised Gran he'd go over the info.

He continues cooking bacon silently, seeking a change of topic.

"Hm. Music is in order." Jason says.

She let him change the subject, concentrating on getting various items ready to go into the omelets - cheese, tomatoes, a bit of onion for flavor. She intended to get a few slices of bacon crumbled and in the omelet.

The other would come, eventually, and she would use the information about Tech's grandfather to help him and keep his mind from imploding.

With the pan ready, Sammy poured in the beaten egg mixture. Cheese and "The question is, what music?"

	"Okay, no problem." he says, going to the living room for a moment. He picks up a remote to turn on the entertainment center. Soon enough, Norah Jones' "In The Morning" filters into the kitchen through the speakers in the ceiling. 	Sammy paused to listen to the music and see if she could identify the song. The performer sounded familiar, but the lyrics not so much. "Ah do. Without sayin' it aloud, to her, Ah know that Gran is gettin' older and it's harder and harder for her to get around, especially on her own. Ah wired the sound system around the house before Ah left so she wouldn't be without her TV or music as she works." Jason says, going back to turn the bacon over.

"It can also be heard outside, if it set that way. She loves her gardening. During Summer, one can sit out in the sun on the side of the house. Great place to catch rays if you want 'em. Mostly, we'd have picnics out there or Ah'd help her out a little with weeding or somethin'." Jason says.

"I love to lay out in the sun. When I get vacations, I spend them poolside with a book, or on a beach somewhere doing the same thing." She tested the edges of the monster omelet she had cooking. "Every now and then Anya Stark invites a group out to her parents' island in Tahiti for a weekend and I practically live on the sand."

"Gardening escapes me. I can't keep anything green alive."

"Yes, but I don't actually have to feed and water you. You won't die from neglect in my quarters." She blinked at how that sounded, completely different than it did in her head just before she said it. Then she laughed. "You know what I mean."

"Tahiti is sun, water and sand. Gorgeous views. Her family has a private island so we usually end up staying right there because it has everything we need. The few times I've been there, it's been after a stressful time and we're all mostly vegetating."

Sammy was pleased she'd managed to get this right and that he seemed genuinely appreciative. "I'm terrible at cooking, but I follow instructions very well. One of my nannies taught to make it just this way and I only change it when there are different vegetables or meat to put in it."

She found plates and set them next to the stove. "The mountains are nice, especially in the winter. Have you ever tried skiing?"

"One would think that with a fabulous cook like my Gran around, Ah might have learned somethin' about cookin'. Makin' bacon is my sole culinary ability; Jake picked up on it better than Ah did." Jason chuckles.

He laughs completely when Sammy suggests skiing.

"No, Ah haven't. Ah think Ah'd mess myself up pretty bad if Ah did." he says, bringing over bacon their plates.

	"Alice and I got to ski Aspen, Vail and Tahoe when we growing up, but my favorite place is the Aosta Valley in the Italian Alps. Mom took me there a few times. Sammy used the turner to cut the omelet across the middle and serve it to Jason.

"My parents tried hard, but family vacations with both of them weren't going to happen, so Mom tried to take me to a lot of different places. When I got to be older, Alice came with us so I'd have somebody to giggle with. We skied, snorkeled, zip lined, hiked, rode camels, ate all kinds of local foods together all over the world. Mom took us on safaris, and to high tea at the Ritz in London. Incidentally, high tea was a lot scarier than boiled tea in the bush."

Jason nods as Sam explains her vacations to him, and recalls some of his own.

"Grandpa used to take Jake and Ah fishin' every Sunday when we first came to live with them. Sometimes, we'd mix in a little huntin' or just some shootin' practice. After he died, most of our energy went into helpin' Gran, but that pond was my salvation. Ah could just go there when Ah needed some time away that Ah didn't want to spend in the lab." he says, taking a bit of his omelet.

"Gran wasn't able to take us on vacations, really, but she did impress upon us that we know whee we come from. We went to Civil War and World War II museums when we could. She preferred that we didn't go to Mardi Gras, but everyone has to experience that at least once, right?" he asks, chuckling. His own experience wasn't as wild that of others, but it was still a good time.

"Once we started makin' all that money, Ah promised myself Ah'd go see a little bit more of the world every year. Someday, Ah'll have to check out one of those California beaches and see if they're as good as people say." he says, enjoying a piece of bacon.
