What have I become?
It wasn't hard to find the reef Kassi had spoken of. It was harder to make herself come. Even though Kassi had offered her help unselfishly, pre-guilt over what might happen to her sister wracked Marrina. What if she hurt her? Or worse? When her body and mind raged so much out of control as they had been, it was impossible to say what she might do.

Marrina took a deep breath as she bobbed in the water. It would be so easy to just run away from it all. From Namor and Mac and Kassi, and... Mason and... and maybe not so easy.

But she knew what her mother had become. Knew that she'd had to be put down. She wouldn't, couldn't do that to her friends and family.

	Something in the message made the creature pause, regarding Kassi with an almost intelligent gaze. It's tail swished violently as it tried to decide what to do. This was broken by the sound of something moving quickly through the water. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	The monster let out a challenging growl as something, no, several somethings came at both her and Kassi. Not as monstrous as Marrina currently was, but clearly not human either, they were on the hunt. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"Marrina, on your left!" Kassia had no idea what the hell the creatures were and she'd seen some unusual sea beings before. She attempted to dodge as one of the creatures came at her, swiming towards her monstrous sister to help protect her. As if she couldn't do it herself. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	The creature that was Marrina struck out with its long tail, slamming into one of the creature's with a meaty sound that carried well even under the water. The other was swifter and grabbed on, sinking its claws into her flesh. The other two darted for Kassi, claws out. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Somehow, there's enough sense of herself left to respond to her sister's pleas. Marrina swarms one of the creatures, her tail slamming the one clinging to her into the reef. Her jaws snapped, tearing the arm clean off one of the ones attacking Kassi. It let out a high pitched scream, and the others began to flee. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	She curled protectively around Kassi, still tense. It became quite clear why. The creatures were swimming back towards some kind of underwater vessel, large and imposing in the ocean. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	This is my fault, Marrina. I'm so sorry...I'm so sorry. Whatever it was that was coming towards them, it scared Kassi and she knew damn well she wasn't going to be able to outswim them or get Marrina out of there as well. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Monster or not, Marrina seemed to waste no time putting herself protectively between Kassi and the ship. Only to let out a terrible, pained roar as some kind of hypersonic signal cut through the water. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	The signal, obviously, didn't impact Kassi the same way it did Marrina, but it didn't take long for it to start giving her a headache and disrupt her telepathy. Kassi lost her ability to communicate with Marrina and her vision went a little swimy. She made one more effort to hold onto her sister before she realized it. They were doomed. 	Compelled by the signal, Marrina swam toward the ship, bringing her sister with her. An airlock opened up, letting her in. A wall slid back to reveal they were trapped there. Through the clear wall, a man could be seen approaching. His smile was one of self-satisfaction. "The last of her spawn... I never thought it would be so easy." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Marrina thrashed, banging against the glass, but somehow taking care not to harm Kassi. It did little.

The man was surprised for a moment, as though seeing Kassi for the first time, but then shook his head. "Oh, but she is. I tracked down each and every one of the eggs but one. The last of Marrina's children, the final Plodex-Atlantean egg."

He grinned. "She is glorious."

"Foolish girl," he snapped. "You are in the presence of the Master of the World. I have spent my life studying the Plodex. The girl's mother escaped me... but the children of her and that thrice-cursed Sub-Mariner belong to me."

The glass held. "But I believe I can find a use for you as well."

He snapped his fingers and a partition sprung up, separating the sisters. Marrina thrashed and struggled against the inclosed space.

	Marrina was pulled further away from Kassi, down the tubed corridors of the ship, finally stopping in another open aquarium. Mechanical devices extended from the walls. She let out a roar, thrashing around, to no effect. One of the devices pierced her side, filling the water with red blood. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	The touch of Kassi's mind brought back some measure of rationality to Marrina, while the damage being down to her, pieces being cut away, probes inserted, forced her already malleable genetic structure to start changing further. At first appearing to be nothing more than an amorphous blob... something else was taking shape. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

The water was being drained from around Kassi. She wasn't sure why, but she tried not to panic. Instead, she just curled her mind tighter around her sister's.

I'm not going to leave you. I promise. And I'm going to get us help.

How she wasn't sure. She sank to the floor when the water drained out of her containment and she started kicking at the walls as hard as she could.

Through their telepathic link, Kassi would briefly feel a sense of connection, but also desperation and pain.

The Master, meanwhile, managed to tear his attention away from Marrina. "You are," he said, "not nearly as fascinating as your sister... But the chance to study a further hybrid is far too good to pass up."

Kassi would fine her room getting hotter and dryer.
