Returning home (Meme- Fluff, Meeting Again)
It was supposed to just be a week long trip to a dig site. It was going to help her finish off her degree so she could focus on her other duties full time. And really everything should have gone smoothly! It had. Mostly.

Except she got talked into staying for another week when they stumbled across a big find that was more of Kayura's area of specialty. It was really hard to say no because it was a fantastic example of mid-thirteenth century armor and it had been exciting.

Then she had wrenched her knee badly the day before she had to leave. She had to delay going back because of that. The site medic didn't want her to risk tearing something since they had to hike to and from the dig site. So now it was almost three weeks later and now she is finally back and so happy to just have to wait for the date to graduate more or less.

But boy was this a little embarrassing. Almost two weeks late coming home even though she had sent word explaining everything.

She couldn't help it. There were very few things she was learning in some of her classes. Or she disagreed which actually made things interesting.

"Hai." She pauses to dig around in her bag and pulls out the pictures and lays them out on the table. "Here they are."

He ponders them for a few moments, looking on the images with something akin to nostalgia. So much of the past... so much of everything he knows... knew? Lost. In ruins.

"Yes. I remember some places something like this. This style of building had not come about yet... but the things that led to it were brand new in my time."

"Really?" Her nose wrinkles up in thought. Then she moves thorough the pictures.

"This looked much older. Sadly it's the one in the worst condition. It's at least three decades older than the rest." She thought it might have been a shrine or something.

He nods, pointing out a couple things. "We had not attempted to build such permanent structures as these. I have learned a little about how they did it, but the oldest of these is still well after my time. But then... very, very little was designed to last then, aside from weapons, a few artifacts. Certainly no villages."

That has her flash him a grin.

"I had heard that. It was.... interesting to see buildings like these. Very different from what I found in my books." That's why she was glad to be at that dig site. It had taught her more than being in class.

"Yes, I find it interesting as well. While... later... I can see hints of things I would recognize in these. Even in ruins. Truly an impressive find."

She nods slowly.

"I heard that there were more in tact locations near the site where the Three Rivers Dam was built. Papa had been very upset not more time had been spent to preserve some of the locations."

He nods once. "It is." he agrees. About as close as he ever gets to letting himself publicly admit some regret for all the things left behind.

That made her realize that she might have been unintentionally bothering Hajime. She doesn't know what to say though because she has never been good with people so she just bites her lower lip.

He shakes it off, returning to his usual stoicism. Making her uncomfortable is rude, and he did ask to see the photos.

"Thank you. I hope I prepared your tea as you like it. I also asked Amiko-sama to make sure we had some of your... how you say... Oreos, for when you returned. I believe they are in that cupboard."

"It's good, thank you."

The mention of Oreos has her perking up right away. She does like them a great deal.

"I ran out of my last package." That has her eyeballing the cupboard with interest.

He only mostly manages to hide the smile. "This tea is not formal. Go ahead and check the cupboard. I do not mind."

She's just going to pretend she didn't notice that. Well she'll try because she still looks sheepish.

"Thank you Sempai." She's going to go hunting for that package now. Oreos really are one of her favorite things.

He doesn't look at her in the process. She's prone to those unseemly overexhuberant displays of emotion - which are relatively alright for teen girls, so long as no one is so rude as to draw attention to it. At least that's his understanding of it.

There might just be not just one, but a couple dozen jumbo packages of oreos. They had a bit of time to prepare for her return, and Hajime might have just made sure it would be a warm welcome.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]weakerlink
2012-03-17 07:26 am UTC (link)
At least they were normal Oreos. Kayura didn't like mint at all. And the yellow ones were just weird. Still the number of package has her raise one eyebrow very slowly.

That's sort of funny in a way. "No one else has touched them?"

Grogg might have. Then she just blinks and tries to hide any amusement she feels. She'll have months before she has to buy more.

"Thank you Sempai."

Its just one of those things - she said oreos. Not mint, not double whatever, not yellow. Oreos, so he was extremely clear with the people who could get such things, absolutely positive that had she wanted something else, she'd have said so. It doesn't even occur to him that all these things might be equally considered oreos by some people. That's not how these things work to Hajime.

"I believe that we obtained a few just for Grogg-san, but he is aware the rest of these are a present for you for your hard work. Thank Amiko-sama, she made most of the arrangements." Possibly at his suggestion - but he sees no reason a samurai should take credit for logistics when it can be passed on to his superior.

And it really is just like him. Which is possibly why Kayura feels that wave of what she thinks of as just being fond of him quickly passes over her. She had missed that. She had been a little lonely while at the dig site because she had to hold back. There had been no choice in the matter.

"I am glad you mentioned it." She takes one of the unopened packages and shuts the cupboard and goes back to her seat.

She doesn't like admitting she did miss everyone here. But she feels like she should. She thinks of him as more than just a teacher.

"I missed everyone here too." There. That works.

[info]weakerlink

She nods happily. "I look forward to it even. I admit I missed it. I became.... used to the structure."

She figured that was innocent enough to mention. She very well couldn't train like she was accustomed to at the dig site.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]get_medieval

That much is true. Hajime's training, even the 'beginner' work he's doing with her, is ridiculously intensive and focused. Unlike his own teachers, he gives some nod to the fact she has a life beyond the classroom - but he nonetheless puts a lot into trying to prepare her for her future.

As for structure - you could almost set a watch by Hajime and his habits. "Good. I have kept your space and practice weapons maintained. I will hope you have not allowed your skills to slide too much during your trip away."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]weakerlink

Kayura is less like him in that regard. She needs to be flexible enough to allow for the random things that happen to her.

"I have not let myself slide," she says with a small smile and sips on her tea. The Oreos will get nibbled at soon enough.

"It was difficult to have time to myself though. My Professor is.... very chatty and more excitable than normal outside of the classroom I discovered."
