Hellfire and Brimstone
Less than twenty-four hours had passed since Rachel had been abducted by Lady Mastermind of the Hellfire Club (as opposed to Lady Mastermind of the X-Tremists or any of the other dozen or so Lady Masterminds out there. Wyngarde had a lot of kids). The illusion currently running in her mind was deep-set and powerful, though not as powerful as the Phoenix shard she still carried within her. Given enough time, it would probably shatter.

But in the end, it didn't much matter. An omega-level telepath and telekinetic backed by a cosmic force could do fantastic damage in a short amount of time. Even if she broke free eventually, a lot of damage would likely be done by the time she snapped out of it.

Cloaked in cosmic flame, the body of Rachel Summers landed on the lawn of the X-Mansion. To her mind, she was landing in front of one of Sinister's bases, ready to face the legion of Marauders or Nasty Boys that dwellt within, before she ended his miserable life.

She brought up a hand, utterly dismantling the foyer with a single gesture. "Come on then!" she shouted. "See how you like fighting someone who fights back!"

	Fred had been at work when the shockwave hit. Fred was knocked from his chair, but spun onto his feet. He brought up the cameras to see what's outside. When he does he immediately thumbs the intercom. "Esteemed colleagues..Miss Summer has returned home..and she seems angry." (Reply to this)(Thread)

Vlad ran from his room towards the main doors, only to find there were no main doors. Just a open-concept destroyed foyer now apparently. But he didn't dwell on that much, because there was a phoenix flaming Rachel with Cait and Gabe in a telekinetic grip.

As far as bad scenarios went...this was up there. But there was no time to waste, Vlad grabbed the nearest piece of partially destroyed furniture and hurled it at Rachel as fast as he could. With mental powered types you had to try and break their concentration if you could.

	Rachel protected herself from the ice and electricity with a telekinetic shield, doing the same to deflect the chair. More of them now, she had to keep fighting, keep moving. She used her TK grip to hurtle Cait and Gabriel, Cait at a tree, Gabe at the ground, before trying to fire force bolts at Shane and Vlad. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Even if Gabriel was awesome at aerial recovery, the force from being hurtled by Rachel's TK Grip was a bit too much for him to defy. He hit the ground with a resounding thud, or maybe crash. There was definitely damage, both to him and the ground. A broken rib or two, maybe three. He was lucky enough to adjust himself mid-air and not break his arms or legs, or snap his neck.

He definitely needed a moment to recover.

Vlad ducked barely in time, his first instinct on seeing all that was to inwardly panic slightly and run over to make sure there were no serious injuries. Broken necks, spines, limbs, you name it, it could've happened. Made even worse that he couldn't see any movement.

But that'd be the least helpful thing, it'd draw Rachel's attention and not like he could heal.

"Hey RACH!" He yelled out as he grabbed more random bits or furniture, tossing a side table at her as he ran towards the hovering Rachel. He just wanted her attention, give the others time to recover or at least get her attention off them. As always, best to get the durable guy hit instead.

	Fred winced at the blows the others took from Eachel, but he remained hidden. Pragmatism dictated that he wait for the moment. Vlad seemed to be trying t get Rachel's attention. 	Rachel's attention was focused on Vlad now, deflecting the thrown projectiles with her telekinesis. As she did so, the Phoenix effect was starting to manifest more vividly around her. He's normally not the dodging type, there's usually no point in it, but this time he's making a point to. Not because he couldn't take the blast, but because it would knock him back or send him flying and make him lose the advantage of having all her attention on him right now. So Vlad does his best, ducking and dodging and making narrow escapes while moving towards the flying Rachel and tossing things at her. The powerful blast comes dangerously close, searing off the top layer of his left arm as it goes by. But at least he has her full attention.

"How a mind-controlled X-Man fights! Come on Rach!" He's pretty darn sure his actual words aren't getting through but the yelling back is just an easier way of adding on the focus on him.

He figured someone might have a plan, and if not, at least one or two of them might recover in time to start a renewed attack now that she was distracted. He has a feeling this fight will be largely about controlling where Rachel is focused.

Gabriel started to get up, now that he's had a moment to recover. His healing factor wasn't the type to act fast, so the broken bones were going to last a day or two. Still, he was going to work through the pain and help deal with Rachel.

He noticed Fred. They were close enough that Fred should be able to hear him talking without Rachel overhearing, considering Fred's enhanced hearing.

"Not a good idea, Fred. She's surrounded by cosmic flames and those will kill you the minute you get in close. But if you have a good arm, I can make something to toss at her."

	Cait pushed herself up and turned to a sitting position. It took a moment to remember what happened. Her whole body hurt and she wanted nothing more than to just crawl away, but she knew she couldn't do that. Instead she reached out with her powers toward Rachel and the water in her body. Rachel blasted Vlad with more energy beams, each more intense than the last.

The flames grew brighter, the Phoenix-shape more defined, and bits of red began to color the costume the Hellfire Club had forced her into.

She stumbled slightly, feeling the water in her body shift. Her own attention focused on Vlad, the but the manifested Phoenix head turned and glared, firing beams of psychic fire from its eyes.

The problem with more intense beams is that they come quicker, and get harder and harder to dodge. Out of the corner of his eye he could see the rest recovering, and Gabe and Fred maybe planning something. He just needed to avoid being thrown away by a blast until they had a chance to do something.

Easier said than done. Especially now that the manifested Phoenix was joining the fight.

One of her beams nicked him and there went most of his face and shoulder. He stumbled at that but at least he wasn't sent flying, and this would make him stronger. And stronger tended to equal faster. Now just to keep this going until someone could make sneak attack #1 and make it count.

With Fred's attention, and Rachel going ape-shit on Vlad, Gabriel took the chance to create a spear of psionic energy. He tossed it over so Fred could catch it.

"If you've got good enough aim, that'll work just like my mom's telekinetic weapons. If you can stab Rachel in, like, the head with it, it can knock her out without killing her. But you've gotta make sure she doesn't see it coming, or even really notice it, or else she's got strong enough shields to shrug it off. Thankfully Vlad seems to be helping with that."

	Fred caught the spear, testing its weight and heft. "Consider it done." Fred positioned himself so he was quiet and hidden. He watched Rachel's movement patterns for a time before rising up and flinging the spear and the back of her head. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

There were three factions running Rachel's mind right now. The deep-seated illusion implanted by Lady Mastermind, the struggling portion of her own powerful mind, and the ever mercurial Phoenix.

The attacks were getting through her shields, wearing her down, and broke down the walls of the illusion. That part of her was done.

But not yet bringing her own mind to the surface.

For a moment, she seemed lost in a corona of bird-shaped flames. When it subsided, the Hellfire costume had been replaced by one in red and gold, familiar and frightening to any X-Man.

"Who dares to try and cage the Phoenix?"

	The Phoenix was powerful, but unlike some previous incarnations, this was not cosmic force in mortal shape, but simply cosmic force housed in a very mortal form. That made it more vulnerable than it might have been. Rachel collapsed, hitting the ground, into unconsciousness. (Reply to this)(Parent)
