The hardest part is saying goodbye (open to any heroes that might be there)
The room lined with statues of Titans that given their lives to help others was something that Iris didn't set foot on a regular basis.

It wasn't that she had never been in it. It was just that she could never go in without feeling the urge to cry.

Today, that urge was especially strong.

Because the newest statue was one of her best friend.

Iris wished that she could go back in time. If she'd been there, she might have been able to help somehow. Maybe even help stop it. But Iris knew that wishing wasn't going to help anyone. It wasn't going to bring back Cait.

Right now, though, she was just trying not to cry. She had to be strong. For her teammates, for Ty. Especially for Ty. Her own tears would come later, when she would get away from everything.

"I'd like to thank you all for coming," Iris said to everyone that was gathered in the small space in front of Cait's statue.

She'd stood in the mirror and practiced what she was going to say countless times that morning. She always broke down in the middle. This time, she'd try to avoid that.

"I didn't know Cait for a long time," she said, "We didn't meet under the easiest of circumstances, and I had no idea that she'd become my best friend. I didn't know that in the short time that I knew her, she'd become almost like an older sister to me. I-" Iris's voice cracked, as she felt a huge knot form in her throat.

"D-death is something that we rarely see coming, especially in t-this line of work." She was not going to cry. She was not going to cry. "T-the best we can do is b-be there for each other and..." Iris didn't finish her sentence as the tears started to roll down her face, and words failed her.

Jerry didn’t particular know any of the titans well but Iris had invited him to come and pay his respects for the loss of Cait. Any loss was a tough and he wanted to show his support for them and Iris. He brought a fresh arrangement of flowers from Hawaii for it.

And Iris needed someone there. She leaned into Jerry's shoulder, tears streaming down her face.

Jerry put an arm around her and did what he could to console Iris but what can a person really say to help someone who had just lost her best friend.

Ash didn't know what to say. She was crying again. She lost count of how many times she had burst into tears. And no one here really knew her.

She didn't care. Her sister was dead.

"Hello, Asherah." Cerdian says, appearing before the young woman.

"You...you fought well, during the battle of Atlantis." he tells her. "Caitria was very proud of you. I know it."

She stops crying long enough to straighten up. She looks him in the eye for a moment and nods.

"She.... She took me in. Pretty much, you know? I didn't have a-anyone else." Not until Cait made sure Mera knew about her.

Ash isn't sure what she will say just yet. "She was the Princess Atlantis needed. She would never see that, but she was."

"In that, we agree, Asherah. You remind me of her, in some ways." Cerdian says, feeling so much older than his twenty years. He would likely not live to see his next birthday, but that seemed pointless to dwell upon.

"You have the makings of a powerful sorcerer, Asherah, if you wish to pursue your gift." Cerdian tells her, looking into her eyes with his own violet ones.

"I know that you and I have not met before today, but...I will recommend you to the Circle for training. Atlantis shall need more mystics of power in the times ahead."

He might notice that they seem familiar somehow. But it was not easy to tell at first.

"I..." Oh how was she going to explain? It would come out eventually. "Cerdain. I am not from this universe. In my own I had already been receiving my training for some time under the tutelage of your Father and Atlan."

That was a bit much to say at once. If he asked someone was probably going to tell him. She should trust him with this. it trusted him so she should do this same.

"My full name is Asherah Curry. I was the youngest daughter of Arthur Curry and his Queen Mera in my reality. We did not loose Koryak. But we never had Cait. I was.... Surprised to me-meet her. She.... was a-amazing, o-of course. M-my world i-is lesser f-for never having k-known her."

She can't help but go right back to stammering. Confessing things is dfficult for Ash.

Cerdian's heart breaks as Asherah explains who she is. By Poseidon, he'd lost Cait to gain her sister. His arms immediately go around her.

"I'm so sorry, Asherah. I...I didn't realize how closely you and Cait were related, though I should have." he says, before remembering himself and letting her go.

And then something occurs to him.

"Technically, Asherah...you are now the Princess of Atlantis." he says quietly. "I know that you do not wish to think on this...but Arthur will need you in the days and weeks to come. You are the only family he has left, even if you are not his by birth. He will need you to take care of him.

And I will do my best to take care of you." Cerdian says. "My father would help you continue your studies, if you desire. I will speak to him of this." Cerdian says.

She almost hugged him back. Then nodded slowly. "You shouldn't be s-s... Sorry. I did not wa... Want people to know. I had hoped to re--return home soon. But as that has not ha--happened I can only guess my parents think I am dead."

That hurt to admit. That they would have given up on her. She almost cries a little again. "I know. He knew I was coming back to help the Teen Titans. I do no...not f-fully know where I... should be. I feel lost."

She folds her arms over herself. "I do not think I would be comfortable with your Father. It already nearly kills me to be near Arthur. I keep thinking of the parents I'll never see again. And my confidence issues are already pr-prob" She frowns at herself. "I have issues with stammering."

"You will find your place, Young Minnow." Cerdian says with an air of confidence. "I have already foreseen this. You will need aid in honing your abilities, but you will find your courage, Asherah."

Cerdian considers something as she says she cannot train with his father. Cerdian himself is now a full magus of Atlantis. Though it is rarely done so early...he is allowed to take an apprentice.

When the student is ready, the master shall appear.

"I have an idea, Asherah, if you will consider it. I will aid you in honing your magic." he says.

When another Atlantean says this, especially one who might as well be her cousin, Ash is more inclined to believe them than other people. It annoyed her just a little that everyone else could be so confident when she had never felt so since she was very young. There had always been too much pressure and too much danger for her to return to being confident.

She gives him a surprised look. But she knows he would not yank her chain. "I.... Accept. It is the wisest choice."

It was logical.

It was, honestly, something that Dinah had no mental preparation for. In-spite of the stories of the Bat-family, and what had happened to her mother and to Jason Todd, and even what had happened to Dan Garrett, in spite of the numerous records of all manner of heroes who had fallen fighting the good fight, in Dinah's mind, super-heroes simply didn't die.

That the hall here was filled with deceased Titans should have given immediate lie to that thought. Maybe that was why she never came down here.

Her thoughts turned to Riley, the boy she loved, and the risks they had taken together.

Her thoughts turned to the other Titans, and the numerous threats they'd walked away from with barely a scratch.

It wasn't right that it could end like this for one of them. Especially not while wielding the power of a god.

Dinah admitted that she had not been especially close to Cait, though they had been friends. But she'd known that Cait's greatest desire had simply been to be normal, to lead a life away from all this kind of thing. And Dinah? She'd scoffed as such notions of normal, wondered who would ever want to be that. Maybe if Cait had been normal, she'd still be alive.

Cait had already been a powerful Atlantean, with the power of a god inside her for the battle. If she could die under such circumstances... Dinah was human, mortal, without a power to her name, a handful of gadgets, acrobatics, and the Bug serving as her only shields against the forces of evil and darkness. If someone that powerful could die, what chance at all did she have?

She was too young for these kinds of thought. She was too much of a happy person, even under her slight bit of cynicism for these kinds of thoughts.

What the hell, world? Where's the justice? Where's the sense?

Life... wasn't supposed to work this way. Good was supposed to win, the bad guys were supposed to go to accept defeat gracefully, and everybody lived. Wasn't that how it worked?

What... what now?

Riley hadn't known Cait really, and the whole time travel thing had given him a little more perspective on mortality and death, but it was still a sad day. He didn't say anything to Dinah, just making a point to stay with her as she wandered the hall.

Cerdian is not a Titan anymore, but he was. He'd also grown up with Caitria, whom he called Princess Little Fish to her eternal annoyance. She did look just like a little fish when she swam, full of joy and wonder at the entire world. Cait gave everyone a chance, even those who didn't rightly deserve it.

She was also the kindest person Cerdian had ever known. Now, she was gone, having died in defense of the kingdom that brought her no end of pain and suffering. How many times had she told him that being the princess of Atlantis would destroy her? How many times had she told him that it had destroyed her forebears in the past.

The throne now seemed to be crushing Arthur with the weight of the crown. The same crown that Cerdian had so often insisted she take up in defense of her people. He'd begged her to stand up for he people and each time she had, she'd been injured in some fashion. Now, she was dead.

Mera was dead. Koryak was dead. Arthur might as well be dead.

And soon, Cerdian knew that he, too, would die.

He does not cry in the Hall of Fallen Titans, but he does feel as though he's failed both the legacy of Aqualad, the people of Atlantis and above all, his only other friend from home.

He has failed too many people as it is, but he will not fail again. Never again.

He would stop failing them all, starting now.

After people far more important to Cait have had plenty of time to speak, or to think in silence, Ruth eventually steps forward with a deep breath.

"I have to admit, I've never been in this room before, but I can tell you one thing: It's too crowded. Too crowded with statues. People who, as I understand it, went forth with love -- because when you get right down to it, it's always about love of one kind or another -- and didn't come back."

"As far as I can tell, Cait didn't profess much love for adventure. She didn't declare an interest in 'the Lifestyle.' She seemed to cling to a love of quiet... that simply didn't extend to when things needed doing or people needed her."

A pause.
"I ask that the Source of all Life, however one knows it, bless her memory." She pauses. "As for her gods as she knew them, well, I have to admit that I'm inclined to say they'd damn well /better/."

She looks around. "Because yes, I'm a little bit angry. I don't think that's too surprising. She was 19 years old, imbued with immense power and backed by more, and Right Was On Her Side. When something like this happens, everyone has the right to bitch at the Universe just a little." Ruth normally stringently avoids such language, but some points call for some things.
"But not forever. Because we can't let it consume us. Because there is always going to be something worth running back under fire for, when things need doing, and people need us."

She looks again. "It's a crowded room. Especially right now, crowded with the living as well as the dead. I'm very new here, but as far as I can tell, nobody forgets. They just keep going. We'll miss you, Cait," she adds quietly as she sort of recedes back.

Ty lingers near the back. There's so much it seems like he should say, but he just can't. Even the thought makes him nervous, on top of feeling incomplete, and a little broken. He's broken into tears several times, hearing the others speak, though he tries to hold it together. He wants to be here for this, even as on edge as he feels.

When she felt ready, Iris went to the back where Ty was.

Like Cait, Ty had quickly become one of her closest friends. She didn't want to break down in front of him and make him even more upset.

Iris didn't say anything. She just wrapped her arms around him, letting him know that she was there for him.

It takes a moment, but it honestly feels good to link to someone again. He's very careful to make sure they're only sharing surface thoughts so it doesn't feel too invasive, but there's still a massive wash of shared emotion.

It turns out there is an exact opposite to humming a few verses in your head, and it's having an upset Ty there. She can handle it just, though; it's just a good thing she hadn't gone in twitchy.

Vic stays towards the back he had been raised to believe that death was not something to be sad about and to mourn over as it was not an ending but rather a new beginning. Even still he did feel sad about it someone should have their life cut so shortly.

Cait had been very nice about helping him adapt to live with civilization and he would miss her but knew that she had to be off to a better place. She as far as he could tell had too much good karma not too.

He had spent a couple of hours meditating for her earlier and knew that it would help him and her. It was times like this that he was glad to have master acceptance from his dad even if now was probably it’s most difficult test.

Steve stood in the very back, silent. He was sad, but probably felt it less than any of his teammates. He liked Cait, but he didn't have much of a connection with her or any of his other teammates.

Still, he felt sad for her death, and for the effect it had on others.

Will felt as if he should be here. He didn't know Cait, but it didn't feel right for him to not be here. She heard Iris' trouble talking, and the hushed tones given to the princess of Atlantis.

So he came as Shazam, trying his damnedest to show support as both Will and as Shazam, this generations Mightiest Mortal.
