Winter Formal @ 07:49 pm

[info]blueridgemod:

Characters: Everyone!
Setting: King's Hall, Dec. 17, 7 pm

Content: The winter formal!

It was the last dance of the calendar year and the last chance to have a great bash, it was the last chance to impress. The social events committee, with the help of the staff, had decorated King's Hall to be a winter wonderland. They charmed giant, fluffy flakes to fall from the ceiling, the walls seemed almost iced over, and jovial holiday music played overhead as if were coming down from the ceiling with the snow flakes.

A snack and drink table was set up in the back, blue and silver table clothes lining the long tables and silver chairs set up around the whole hall. There was a giant light up evergreen tree at the back of the room with decorations that students from the past had given to the school and there were several menorahs set up and lit around the room. The staff were dressed in their holiday best and prowling the dance for drunk kids and boys and girls who were dancing to close but generally there was a feeling of merriment, joy, and excitement over the holidays.

Sunny was always one of the first people to show up to the dances. She loved dances, it was convenient to have all your friends in one place for at least one night. She felt like a snowflake as she twirled around the ball room. She was mid-spin when her momentum was stopped. Ever the clutz, she had run into someone yet again. Blushing, she looked up (not something she had to do often) and grinned. "Sorry!"

Hendrix/Ella

(Link)
It was their first date as a couple, a couple. Hen was going to a dance with his girlfriend, of course there had been the goofy picture and the video chats but once it was just them, he was more comfortable. He brought her a corsage and even wore a suit rather than his typical old man cardigan and khakis.

Holding her hand, he smiled down at Ella. "What would you like to do first?" he asked sweetly.

Ella swung their entwined hands gently and leaned into him slightly. She was sure she hadn't stopped smiling since they had kissed. "I totally don't even mind" she sighed, playing with her corsage. "What's your favourite thing to do at these things?"

It was nice to have her hand in his, it felt right, felt like "I... uh..." he grinned, slightly embarrassed. "I never went to one before I asked you to homecoming. So um... I think my favorite thing was like... I don't know... watching you dance," he blushed. "It sounds really creepy I know but you're always so cute," he giggled. "And happy. I like it when you smile."

Jenny/Sera

(Link)
Jenny didn't really know why she felt so nervous, it was just a dance after all. But she couldn't shake the strange ominous feeling that seemed to hang over everything. Even when she had been getting ready, she had gotten two runs in her stockings just while putting them on. That had to be some bad luck record, and she almost called the date off all together when she thought of the message Sera had sent her earlier in the week.

She didn't know what the brunette had planned, but she hoped that whatever it was just wasn't the thing causing her grief. Always a strong believer in Divination and all of it's branches, no matter how people said it wasn't real, the blonde decided she definitely needed an aura cleansing or something. Maybe the dance would go great and just take care of all of her negative feelings for her.

By seven thirty, Hen had already come and he and Ella were gone. With the goofy pictures over, Jenny just squeezing in on one of Ella and Hendrix, and the video chat with their mother over too, there was still no Sera. She didn't really mind; it wasn't as if Paula hadn't had kittens over Skype everytime she and Sera went to a dance. They didn't need to be in on the chat everytime. It had practically been Ella's turn to take some of the mom pressure. New boyfriends trumped old girlfriends, after all.

Never one to be particularly impatient, Jenny did sort of wish the brunette had come earlier though, it would have been nice to have the four of them together. Even if just for a quick picture. She still couldn't shake her bad feeling, and she felt sort of like tonight would be a good night to take pictures. It'd be a good night to remember. Lost in her worries, Jen jumped a little as she finally heard a knock on her door, rushing over and pulling it open.

"Fashionably late?" she asked her girlfriend a little rhetorically, making a show of looking the younger girl over from head to toe. She was a bit like a giant when she wore her heels. "I love your sweater," she added, reaching up to pluck at it.

Jenny/Sera

(Link)
Sera hadn't really been meaning to be so late but she did hold back in her room just a bit. She wasn't nervous about the dance or anything, maybe a bit about the ring, but she was mostly just excited. She wanted to make sure she and Jenny would be alone and had told her girlfriend a head of time to let Ella and Hendrix go a head without her. She figured video-chat with Paula would last just a bit longer than normal it being Ella and Hen's first date together as a couple. She did kind of hate to miss it, but it was kind of their night. Paula had had plenty of other chats to fuss over her and Jenny.

Waiting till she knew Jenny would be alone, Sera made the short trek from her room to Jenny' s. The present which she had bought for Jenny earlier in the week was held behind her back as she knocked on the door and her girlfriend flung it open.

"Yeah sorry. I just wanted to make sure we'd be alone. I guess I could have texted you or something." The brunette quickly appologized, she was normally not someone to be late, for anything, especially something important. The ring-box was still held behind her back, she watched Jenny get a good look at her and used the opportunity to check out the blond. She looked as amazing as ever, Sera thought and she couldn't help but smile.

"I like your dress." Sera replied still smiling when Jenny plucked at her sweater. She was glad the blond liked it actually, she had been a bit unsure of the bow.

Jenny/Sera

"You could have done something. When you said let them go ahead I didn't think you meant like, twenty minutes," Jenny replied softly, though she was still smiling. "You know I worry," she warned. It was true, but tonight she just wasn't sure what she was so worried about. It just felt like something was off, or going to be off.

It took her a few moments before she realized that the younger girl was holding something rather blatantly behind her back. "Is that my present?" she gasped, a little more excited than she planned to let on. Struggling to crane her neck around her girlfriend and get a peek at the box, she automatically smiled back at the brunette.

"It'll look even better on the floor later if you got me something really good," she joked, poking the taller girl roughly in her stomach. It didn't really matter what Sera had actually gotten her, or even how much it cost. It really only mattered that it was from her girlfriend, and that made it special. It even had her momentarily distracted from the down feelings she had been having.

Sylvia/Open

Sylvia had gone all out for tonight's dance, quite literally, and was in good spirits. Christmas holidays meant going back to London, shopping and catching up on all her favourite television. She was even dancing a little, swaying with the music and holding her hand out to catch the snowflakes. She didn't know if she was imagining it or not, but she was sure they were cold to the touch.

Sylvia/Michi

(Link)
It was the first dance that Michiko had to wear flats instead of high heels. It was a small thing, in fact, the smallest change indeed, but it was something that would have helped make the adjustment a little easier. She could shake the fact that everyone was staring at her because she was an abandoned, pregnant lesbian. At least she could pretend they were staring at her because she looked good. But she couldn't fake high heels.

Shaking it off, she looked around for anyone to talk to and spotted Sylvia, looking bad ass in her holiday finery. At least one of them could drop some fashion bombs on the school. "Lookin' fierce Silv," she complimented, approaching the younger girl.

Tatum/Sam

(Link)
There was no way for Tatum to decide which was wigging her out more. It was a toss up between the fact that tonight was the night she was actually planning to come clean with someone other than Rath, and also the fact that she was technically sort of there with two different people. It was still mind-boggling to her, everything that had transpired between her and Mack in the last little while, but it also felt right. More right than it felt to arrive on Sam's arm.

Despite all of his best efforts to be a gentleman, Tatum was still as tense as wire, practically shaking as they were making their way into the dance. This whole thing had been her idea, but it was too late to back out now. It was tonight or never, because it wasn't fair to go on like they were. He was, after all, one of her best friends above everything else. She had broken up with Shelby that one time and he still talked to her. Maybe if Sam was mad, she just hoped he wouldn't be, Shelb would bring him back around.

Where did one begin that conversation though, really? It wasn't the world's easiest thing to breach. By the way I'm gay & and I've always been gay probably wouldn't go over well. Most guys didn't want to hear that from their girlfriend. What if he thought he turned her gay or something? Feeling her heart racing, she clutched his arm harder.

Mack was coming later, she had asked her to. She had told the blonde she maybe wanted to dance with her later, twelve o'clock-ish maybe for the last couple of songs, when everything was resolved. But it was still so early, she wasn't sure she could keep up the panic until midnight.

When they got close to the punch, Tatum squeezed Sam's arm again. "I'm dying," she laughed weakly, hesitating to fill up a cup. Stressing herself out always gave her cotton mouth.

Sam had gotten used to the fact that Tatum was a jumpy sort of person but she seemed unusually tense as they walked through the dance. He patted her hand and smiled down at her warmly. "Wanna get a drink? Maybe step outside for some air?" he offered gently.

He was starting to worry that something was wrong. He adjusted his necklace uncomfortably and waited for her answer.

Hunter/Michi

(Link)
Hunter was really hoping that winter formal would go better than homecoming had. They had put a lot of effort into decorating, with Hunter volunteering Shelby to climb up instead every time Michi wanted to pin something up high, and everything had pretty much come together. Mack even seemed in better spirits, though she wouldn't tell Hunter why and it was driving the taller blonde crazy. Don't wanna jinx it, she kept saying, whatever that meant.

Much to her disappointment in her once tough best friend, Hunter didn't think it took a rocket scientist to know whatever had Mack so damn happy probably had everything to do with her little ginger. Go figure.

But Hunter wasn't in much of a position to bash other people for being in love, she supposed. She had grown tired of Mack and her silly grin, and she was even more tired of everything when she tasted the punch and it wasn't even spiked. She took a glass for Michi, before looking around and making sure nobody was watching her, as she flicked her wrist and a clear flow of vodka came from the end of her wand and streamed into the punch bowl.

With that fixed, she got herself a glass and took the unspiked one for Mich, elbowing her way through the crowd as she tried to spot her girlfriend. Finding her eventually, the blonde sidled up behind her and held out the cup of punch to her. "It's red flavor," she informed her, grinning.

Michi grinned and accepted the unspiked red flavor. "Ohh, red flavor, my fave," she joked, taking a sip. "I'm surprised that it was unsullied still."

Michi wrapped her arms around the taller girl, one hand still clutching her cup, and rested her head against Hunter's shoulder contentedly. "Everyone's lookin' at us," she whispered.

Meka/Open

(Link)
Dances were not Meka's thing but they were few and far between and she couldn't stand the constant poking from her friends that she should just go for a little while. She didn't want to go to this dance in particular. She had broken up with Kekoa the day after the fight with Sim. Dances were just the sort of thing that should help her get her mind off but she knew that they would both be there.

She had hung back a little bit, just as usual, wearing one of the dresses that her dad's secretaries had picked out for her. She had to admit, they had pretty good taste. She poured herself a glass of warm cider and when she was sure no one was looking, she spiked her drink with some spiced rum.

Meka/Jenny

(Link)
Despite the feelings of worry that had been looming over her night earlier, Jenny felt loads better now that she was actually at the dance and she had spoken with Sera. Nothing was up, there was nothing to worry about, and the ring that the younger girl had given her for an early Christmas present was gorgeous. It even fit just right, completely perfect.

It didn't take her long to decide that maybe she had been working herself up for nothing. It was winter formal, and nearly Christmas, and she couldn't think of any good reason to be down. Her bad feeling about earlier had been wrong, and that was enough for her.

The blonde had been on her way back from the washroom, hesitating on the edge of the dance floor as she peered through, seeing Sera talking to someone else. Ever too polite to butt in, Jenny just made her way back to the drink table instead. One gulp of punch just about made her puke, it tasted like someone had poured six gallons of boot liquor in there, and she scooted down to the cider instead.

Pouring a cup, she tested it before smiling. That was much better, she decided, discreetly using her wand to empty out the glass of punch she poured. She wasn't feeling crazy enough to get drunk, but she did feel extraordinarily alive, like the night couldn't get better. But she did have one little tiny craving. She had been craving them more and more lately, especially when Sera kept bringing them in her purse. Looking back toward the dance and seeing Sera still occupied, Jenny spotted Meka next, standing by herself, and that was perfect.

Heading over to her friend, she threw her arms around the younger girl's shoulders from behind, leaning on her. "Hey you," she greeted her simply. "Do you have any uhh.. you know, cigarettes?" she asked, her voice hushed on the last word as if it were dirty. Which really, it sort of was. Smoking was wretched for her, and against the rules for sure, but it always made her feel light-headed and excited just the same. She wanted a rush, even if only a tiny one.

Dani was not looking forward to the holidays. Considering the disaster that had been Thanksgiving, she was almost tempted to say that she was going to stay at the school for winter break but her mom had convinced her otherwise.

Despite not wanting to be there, she was looking quite festive and even wearing a meemaw approved dress. She still refused to get on the dance floor though, so she stood off the the side, teasing and taunting almost everyone she saw and laughing loudly.

Shelby was actually pretty pyshced for the Christmas holidays to start. Or more so to get back to British Columbia. He'd been watching ski reports online the past few weeks and it was just about killing him, practically every resort in the province was open for business. He figured he had atleast a good two weeks or so of snowboarding to catch up on. Georgia was fun and all, and maybe it was getting a bit too cold for shorts but nothing was quite like fresh Canadian powder.

He'd just snuck back in from smoking a joint and was sticking a bit to the outskirts. He'd probably head back on the dance floor soon but he wanted to stay atleast where there was no teachers around for a few minutes. Noticing Dani laughing at something he moved over a bit closer, already a bit giggly himself from the weed. He always thought she was a pretty cool chick, killer at Quodpot too.

"Hey! what's so funny?" He laughed kind of goofily, nudging the girl in her arm gently.

Tatum/Mack

(Link)
Though things with Sam had gone down with a lot less dramatic input than Tatum had expected, she still felt anxious as she waited for Mackenzie to come and meet her. They had pre-arranged things, sort of, as in she had at least told the blonde what her plan for the evening was. Coming clean with Sam, and hopefully getting to have a stupid slow dance with the tall blonde shortly after that. She wasn't much of a dancer, but it was sort of a special occasion. It was a big step, and her heart was still racing. She had only told Sam, it brought the total of people who knew she was gay up to a grand total of about three, but it still felt like a big step.

She was single, and she wasn't going to go running. She wasn't going to stay single long, but it wasn't going to be like every other time. Just that thought made her knees feel like they were trembling.

Waiting on the dance, and on Mack, Tatum had found her way outside and over to where other people were standing in scattered clusters and smoking. Not too far away from the entrance of the dance, close enough that she would see the other girl if she came approaching, the redhead began to fish around for her cigarette case and lighter.

Tatum/Mack

(Link)
Mackenzie had spent the last two hours nervously getting. ready to join Tatum at the dance. She couldn't remember a time when she had really cared about how she looked for a date. Not being sure what Tatum would like, she picked a blackdress that she figured at the very least would make her legs look awesome. She had made her way down to the hall at about a quarter to midnight, fiddling nervously with the bouquet of flowers that she had decided on bringing. She hoped it wouldn't be too much, she didn't want to embarrass either of them. Showing up to the dance was already enough to make people talk, Mackenzie Dubinsky rarely showed up to dances, let alone with a date.

Checking her phone, she realized that she was at least ten minutes early, and decided to have one last cigarette to calm her nerves before she went in. Making her way over to where she saw other people smoking, she suddenly recognize a familiar head of red hair and felt her heart skip a beat. Mack couldn't even come up with words to describe how she felt as she looked at Tatum, only that she was sure that if it was possible that her jaw would have been on the floor. It was now or never, she figured, Tatum would look up eventually from her search through her bag and then she would see her standing there like an idiot.

Putting on what she hoped was a confident smile, she made her way over to the smaller girl and held out her own cigarette case. "Care for a cigarette beautiful?" She drawled, grinning cheekily before offering out the flowers. "There were supposed to be for a friend, but I think I'd rather give them to you."
